Perfect, amazing, exactly the place I want to get my next tattoos at. This little shop was amazing. I contacted the shop to make an appointment and Jess replied quickly and worked with me to set it all up. The shop is super clean and all the employees are very polite. I got my tattoo with Tobias, I sent a design, he cleaned it up, worked with me on adding color, and perfect shading. The process was quick and I'm so pleased with the results. As I went with a friend, I did have time to sit and wait at the front so I did want to note a few things for anyone, like me who wants to just walk-in. If you're walking in, go as soon as they open, many of the artists are very busy throughout the day, or even better MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. Additionally, they may say no to the placement of some tattoos. Lastly, bring cash, it is all they take, though there is an ATM in the shop too. As for the parking, since in Portland it's always a crap shoot, they don't have a lot; however, you can find parking near by but you may have to walk a little. When i walked in they said my tattoo would have bad placement and that the link would run. sounds like the tattoo artist doesn't know what he's doing. also bad customer server, he's keeps on act like i have never had or even know what i was talking about. there were other people there that was a walking out of the door. they told me there are better place then blackest tattoo, and they are $100 for a small tattoo. one of the worst place i have been to, i would never go there again. also i saw there work, i wouldn't like the discredit them but they weren't proud of there work and that tells me something about how they don't know what they are doing. read more

Unfortunately I have to update my review.. I've gone back and forth on leaving this and I've decided it's probably a good idea to share my most recent experience. I have always got my big, important work done by Brynn. I wanted her to do a very special tattoo of my cats, but she was no longer working there when I visited. I was deadset on getting that tattoo right then so I asked for Sean to do it. Sean has done another smaller tattoo of mine and it never fully healed correctly but I always chalked it up to me not taking care of it. Sean did my cat tattoo and it looked great. I was in love. But the next day my arm was in so much pain I could barely move. Then the odd bruising began. Huge purple bruising. Nearly covered my whole arm. Then it began bleeding from the scabs. This went on for weeks. I started getting really scared because I've had much larger pieces done and never experienced this type of pain, bruising or scabbing before. I did everything I could to make it heal better but nothing worked. I was honestly too scared to return to Sean because I had never gone through this and honestly didn't know if it was me or him who caused this. Then the bruising didn't go away. It turned blue. And it spread all over where my portrait of my black cat was. Not to mention, you couldn't see the details in the face of my black cat. The ink just blurred together... I started doing research and learned I had blowout. Sean had been too rough on my skin, causing the ink to bleed underneath. I was so panicked, it caused me immense anxiety for weeks and I couldn't do anything but hide the tattoo in shame and wait. Finally I was able to get it fixed by an artist I trusted. But I was so burned that I'm honestly terrified to get tattoos now. I understand blowout can happen with any artist and any part of the body... but since I had a bad healing experience with my other tattoo Sean did years ago, I'm thinking this isn't coincidence. He does beautiful work but be wary of the heavy hand. I unfortunately am not returning to Blacklist in the future. This experience was beyond horrifying and I never want to go through it again. read more

I am, shall we say, a collector of 3 things: 1. NES games- yes, the old ones you have to blow and wiggle in the Nintendo. 2. Movie/Concert Ticket Stubs (Every one since 4th grade, thank YOU) 3. Tattoos (Yes, they are addicting). This tattoo shop, furthermore my tattoo artist, CHRISTY FISH, caters to all 3 of these. How? Simple. She too appreciates the Original Gangster of the wonder years, including reflecting on awesome games, concerts, and yes, all while tattooing me. The last is probably the most important though. Christy has done 3 full tattoos on me now, out of my 15. Today she took an orange, ring of saturn, and a leaf and made them POP. I have not found a true artist, such as Christy, that can manipulate color onto the skin with the ease and self-critical meticulousness as she. It is an amazing thing to have such trust and faith in someone I see maybe a few times a year, for something so life-lasting. Yet, I can describe my vision, the personal significance, and size- and it goes into Christy's brian... out pops brilliance. Her outlining hand is not heavy unless it needs to be. Her shading and ability to bring fruits, flowers, animals, food, and so many other items into a life-like, and color-popping dimension is what I consider a gift. She is easy to get along with but I think it's because we both have pretty direct conversation styles, and I feel like she understands what I am looking for every time. She has drawn all of my ideas out and I have yet to be disappointed. I have followed her to a few shops and will continue to do so as needed, but I think Blacklist Gallery's good vibe, clean areas, and artistic standards for all staff there will keep her and I there for a while. Blacklist Gallery's staff are all very supportive of each other's work and you overhear them sharing ideas throughout the day. I would recommend Christy and this place. read more

I had been wanting to get a tattoo for a long time, however due to the fact that I lived overseas most of my life where getting tattoos are illegal the want had to wait. Thankfully I moved back stateside for a year and finally was able to pursue my want for ink. I looked all over the city of Portland for shops and was for the most part bummed out. Most shops I went to were lacking in friendliness and advice for a tattoo virgin. Needless to say I was very disappointed about finding a good place for a tattoo, until I came across Blacklist. The shop is extremely welcoming, great flash on the walls and awesome artist portfolios. The people at the front desk are incredibly friendly and make you feel right at home. When it comes to the artists, their a great bunch. Not only are their tattoos top notch and stunning but they are also very friendly and considerate. When they consult you on your tattoo they put you at ease and let you know they know what their doing and will give you the best tattoo. I've had a tattoo design in mind for years, but had a difficult time finding an artist that I thought could do it justice.... I wanted traditional style meets modern art. In a city with so many tattooists, where it is relatively easy to get licensed, it was so hard for me to sort through all of the million options and bullshit. Thankfully I found Olivia at blacklist! I initially found her work on Instagram, and after I did some stalking, I knew she'd be the perfect one to do my piece. Everything about my experience with Olivia was awesome.... Start to finish: she promptly returned my texts, gave awesome feedback on my design, and made me feel super comfortable throughout the whole process. I really appreciated her professionalism; she's has been tattooing for almost a decade, which was very apparent to me in the way that she set up her machines (and answered all of my questions about them...), and free handed the bottom of my tattoo to set it up for future additions. I appreciated her help with placement, and she gave me ideas on how to change the proportions a bit, to make it more realistic and easy to add onto, which I hadn't thought of. Her space at blacklist was comfortable and clean, and the whole environment was awesome! I happened to come at a time when "Suck Norris", the prized plecostomus (sucker mouth catfish), went missing from the goldfish tank, which was definitely a tragedy, but also a source of great amusement!! Overall, my only regret is not finding her sooner! I give her the highest recommendations, I was just so satisfied with the experience, price, art, and the chance to meet another amazing human (who shares my appreciation of classic cars and chickens!). I had Jason and the reason I gave this rating is because i felt condescended and uncomfortable during my 2 hour tattoo. I was getting the tattoo to cover up my scars, but he seemed annoyed whenever I asked him to adjust something so it would cover them fully. He was also condescending and said there was "nothing he could do" when I asked to make the stomach bigger ??? Then he said "but that's why the thighs are thick, I don't do skinny bitches". Bitches???? It just sat wrong with me. He didn't offer breaks or pay attention to how I was feeling. I also had to ask him to put more fold out walls up for privacy, as I was going to be in my underwear, and again he acted like it was some inconvenience... overall the tattoo turned out well but i could've been much more comfortable and it seemed like he didn't really care about my experience, only if he got the tattoo done. read more

Rolled through from Baltimore - I had booked an appointment with Linus and my husband with Jacob. I was psyched that Linus was so psyched on an idea I had and he had already drawn it up when we arrived on a Friday afternoon. He was seriously an awesome dude and I'd get tattooed by him again in a heart beat. My husband got flash from Jacob picked from a piece on his wall. Everyone there was really friendly, no one felt snobby, and the studio itself is awesome and clean inside. I dig that they DO NOT do piercings. Four stars because I want you to believe me but also because - maybe I am spoiled by Bmore/PA prices - both pieces were more expensive than we had anticipated, especially the flash considering it wasn't drawn from scratch. We had done $100 deposits initially, each, as well. I do realize things are more expensive in the PNW, and they both did an excellent job so that's really my biggest complaint. Great experience at Blacklist Tattoo. Unlike most of the best shops in the city, they accept walk-ins all the time. Walked in with my sketch, and 30min later, was getting my tattoo. Out the door in 90min. Awesome. Sean Lanusse was my artist and was fantastic. He added his own touch to the design I provided (for the better), and also was very smooth in the tattooing process -- relative to a tattoo I got in the exact same spot on my other calf by an artist in Minnesota, it hurt less and was done quicker, being equally as complex. *note it's cash only, but there is an ATM in the shop *parking is relatively easy in the neighborhood behind the show or street side in front. read more

The first time I came here was fantastic. I worked with Gavin and he was so helpful, patient, and offered great advice on the issues with the original piece I brought in were in terms of the placement I wanted and how to fix it. I was getting my 8th tattoo at that point so I am no newcomer to what my tattooing experience should be like. When I came in to get my next tattoo. I was very excited because I am from California and waited specifically to come back to Oregon to get tattooed at Blacklist. When I arrived I learned Gavin was not there so I spoke with another artist, made an appointment and came back the next day. I get there and am working with Linus on my tattoo. He goes to the back to draw it and it looks nothing like the what I asked for when he finally comes back out. As we all know TATTOOS ARE PERMANENT so I refuse to be complacent with a subpar drawing and I refuse to pay for that as well. I tried to explain to Linus the issues I found with it and what I wanted fixed. He did not agree and let's me know the first sketch was done in five minutes...yet somehow that one was much better than the one he took 30 minutes to draw more "intricately". Clearly there's an issue, but despite that I try to explain once more and to this end am told: "If I want a 5 minute sketch I can go down the street and let anyone do it. If I don't like his sketch then I don't like my own drawing, so I don't like my own idea and he doesnt want to tattoo someone who doesn't know what they want." He then proceeds to walk away from me and never come back.... Are you absolutely fucking kidding me?! I attempted to explain it to him several times and his ego, unprofessionalism, and inability to perfect a "5 minute sketch" left me with no tattoo and a bad taste in my mouth about Blacklist tattoo. I won't say avoid them all because even one of the workers I talked to outside after the disagreement agreed with me. But AVOID LINUS!!! I REPEAT AVOID LINUS!! read more

I first got introduced to Blacklist Tattoo while on vacation in Salt Lake City. Let me explain. I was at the tattoo convention earlier this year, and as a friend and I were perusing through the aisles, we were struck by Jaboc's artwork. This is relatively hard to do, seeing as there are SO many different artists at this event, but yep they caught our attention. My friend is very much into big, elaborate, colorful pieces, (which seem to be Jaboc's speciality) and found something he particularly liked. One thing led to another and next thing I know he's getting tattooed. All the while, we are shooting the shit with Jaboc, who is an exceptionally cool dude. I mentioned to him I was looking to get more work done on my fingers and he gave me a card for Blacklist. Fast forward several months, and today I finally came in, as a walk in. Because my last several tattoos have been finger art, I usually go about this method as it can be done quite quickly and on a whim. This time, I had Sailor Roman as my artist, and he was a perfect fit for me. I came in, showed him my idea and he drew it up for me. Not only is he incredibly talented, but a great conversationalist. He was friendly, made me feel comfortable, and checked in with me whilst tattooing. There are so many tattoo shops in Portland, it makes my head spin. My dog died in early August and I wanted her face tattooed on me. I found Christy Fish's work on Instagram and knew I wanted her to do the portrait of my pup. I met with Christy for a consult and then scheduled the session. Christy was great to work with.
