Wow! So a few months ago I was in Sligo, Ireland. When I travel, I travel light. 2 bags, both are carry-on, one I can check on the way home if I need to.
One of the things I like to do is hit farmers markets. I like to pick up small things that I know I can bring back, small sauces, seasonings, salts, etc, specifically, things that I won't run across in the States.
Well as I do, I ended up at the Standhill Peoples Market. While there, at one of the stands I ran across this company called BlackFire Hot Sauces and I opted to pick up a couple of their sauces. How could you not when one is called Pain In The Hole?
The first, and I've been going through this as I like it with grilled brats/pork items is called Samson. It's made with mango, pineapple and dulse, which is an Irish seaweed. Seaweed in Ireland is a thing but that's another review. The heat from this sauce comes from habaneros. The pineapple and mango really tame the sauce and make it a great add to the above grilled items.
But today I tried the Pain In The Hole.
Yowza!!! I first tried a little from a toothpick I used to clear the top after I shook it up. Wooo Boy! It gets ya! So this too is made with pineapple and apple cider vinegar. But it's a 3 pepper blend of ancho, ghost pepper, and Carolina reaper.
It seriously has some heat. I'm a Mrs. Renfro's Ghost Pepper salsa kinda guy so I can handle my heat.
But this, I had to use sparingly as you can see on the eggs and then added another sauce, and the eggs were sitting on some toasted rolls underneath which sucked up some of the heat.
It's good. I mean really good. I think I'm gonna try it with a bloody mary this weekend as it is that tasty.
They offer other flavors and from their website, they do online ordering and shipping.
If you are looking for that gift for the holidays or special occasion, this is what you need to order.
Please note, I do not have the correct location of this manufacturer on the map as I was unable to find one. All I know is it is from Belfast. Cheers! read more
