I'm on a mission to explore every indie bookstore possible, so while recently visiting family in…read morethe Adirondacks, a quick Google search had me adding The Book Cabin to my list to explore. The Bookstore Passport book was honestly the best concept ever and I'm lowkey bummed to have not discovered it at any other indie bookstores to date! Even if your TBR is full, you still need to stop here to grab this for all your future bookstore runs. I will admit this is not the most accessible location, but it's 100% authentically Adirondack. You follow the main road around the lake until you curve around a corner that puts you right in front of the parking lot entrance, so be ready for it to sneak up on you. The parking lot is gravel with a gravel trail curving up the hill to where the cabin itself is, so that may be hard for some to navigate with the incline and uneven path. However it's so quaint and peaceful once up there! The cabin has a wraparound porch with some goodies on it, including sale items! I found two books off the sale cart to come home with me (combined cost was less than a brand new book!), and also checked out a little of the bookish travel mugs before actually heading inside through the wooden screen door (again, quintessential Adirondack feature). The interior of the store is maximized to every possible opportunity even though it's only one actual room. Bookshelves line every wall, and a few mini shelves create a couple of aisles. There's a great section dedicated to books either set in the area or by authors from the area, as well as an extensive fiction selection. There's also nonfiction, YA, and kids, plus some puzzles and crafts. Their bookish selection is extensive, more than just bags and stickers - I saw travel mugs and coffee cups, coasters, bookmarks, candles, small shelf trinkets, and more. Plus they offer blind dates with a book! I'm always a sucker for those so of course I picked one up. And then right by the checkout, the glorious bookstore passport! I was instantly obsessed when I saw it, then incredibly disappointed that I hadn't seen this in the dozens of other indie bookstores I've been to. You best believe I will be hyping it up to every bookseller I know! When I first got there, a mom & son were browsing as well, then it was just me for a bit. The shopkeeper was quietly doing her own thing, which honestly I prefer - if I'm looking for something specific I'll ask, but places like this are meant for browsing and taking your time. She was sweet when it was time to checkout, and it looks like they have a loyalty program that could be nice for locals. Overall a great find tucked at the base of the Adirondacks and outside of the craziness of the outlets or the village of Lake George!

The size of this charming spot does limit its collection somewhat, but it's still rather well curated. Optimal for a quick browse and find a summer read or nice gift for a friend or to kill a bit of time on a cloudy lake day. I found quality gifts for family in my two visits here--both in the popular or literary book vein as well as local interest books. The charm of shopping for books in a log cabin or perusing a sale rack on the deck is just off the charts. The selection is good but a bit limited by the spot's real estate. I personally kind of wish so much of the store wasn't dedicated to kid's books/gifts--the setting feels more appropriate to the mature literature--but I can understand the choice. Owner is very friendly and happy to chat about book recs or the region. Only weekend hours during the off season, and will be closing for the winter but opening again for the spring.

I was amazed by the large layout and selection while browsing. The display areas are engaging and have you stopping to look every few feet. I found books for myself, as well as a Father's Day gift for my husband thanks to a specific display they had with Father's Day ideas. I loved the vinyl section, the horror selection, and the large graphic novel area. They also had some unique art books on display that I had not seen anywhere else. At one point I was looking for a specific title and the employee was able to help me find it. When checking out I learned they had been here for 13 years and the first shop is located in Manchester, Vermont. I was given a 10% off coupon and told about their online shop. I love supporting indie bookstores and spent a good 30 minutes shopping around. Very happy with my purchase. This is a bookstore you won't want to miss!

They brought much of the same charm from Manchester to Saratoga, sticking true to the Northshire style with nooks and crannies, metal stairs, and the dedicated children's section on the upper level. The store was actually much bigger than I expected; the exterior was deceptive in a good way. My only complaint is that the romance section was surprisingly small; I feel like BookTok has really helped that genre take off so seeing just two shelves of romance was disappointing. But the sci-fi/fantasy section is great, and with an entire level dedicated to children's books I can see it being a hit for families too. They also have discounted books labeled with the "Great Price" sticker which was nice to stumble upon; everyone loves a good deal!

This is your best indicator that they're open. Otherwise you might not notice this hidden gem because it's upstairs in an office building. But as soon as you make it through the door, you won't regret having come! It's clear to see that these guys have a good time with their shop. There are labels for sections and parts of the store that could only grow out of fondness, like "The Cave" for the small little room that sits next to the check-out desk, where the psychology and sci-fi books are housed. Love the combo. Or "The Treasure Chest" for overflow books, so varied and ever changing, that you never know what you might find. They have an ever-changing new arrivals section, displaying some of the more popular current novels, which is a great place to look for recommendations. They also have a great children's section, with old readers from quite a while back. Their foreign language section is pretty limited, but that's the case with most bookstores. There were some beautiful old books in German last time I was there. They have a great new england and Vermont section, though I can't admit to having browsed it very thoroughly. Amazingly, they also order books for you if they don't have something. A very kind service. It's worth a visit to this wonderful used bookstore. It's surprisingly large, and full of a huge variety of books.

Northshire Bookstore is a bookworm's paradise! There's…read moresomething for everyone - fiction, nonfiction, fantasy, romance, biography, cooking, banned books - you name it, they've got it! They have a section of used books for a lower price along with a cafe. They even sell records. There's a full section of greeting cards, stationary, planners, notebooks etc. Plus a small section with Vermont touristy/souvenirs. What's not to love?! I left buying 4 books for myself and one as a gift.

We ended up purchasing 3 books, with one dated back to the 1850s for a great price. I love the history of this bookstore and its purpose. It was founded by a courier who lived modestly and loved books. He collected books to preserve history, with books from all around the world.

It also can feel a little cramped around the guest services desk when a line builds; I wish some of those tables weren't so close in that area since either creates a bit of a bottleneck if the store is busy that day.

It was exceptionally difficult to find since all of the poetry books were under the "westerns" section. I had to wait quite a while for someone at the customer service desk, but the gentleman that showed up was super helpful. There's a cafe that sells Starbucks products (but they don't take Starbucks gift cards). The children's section is actually quite large and extensive. I tend to frequent smaller, locally owned bookstores, but I sometimes enjoy spending my time and dollars at a B&N.
