This is a lovely, little winery in Macon, MO; open since 2009 and owned by Chris & Jen West. It is…read morelocated right on the main street of Macon, tucked in with other local businesses. You can stop in for a tasting or sit down at a table for a glass or two. You can actually watch the winemakers make the wine as you sip your glass as the tanks are in the main room with the bar. It makes the whole process come together. They also have live music on some weekends and are available as a rental space. My mother is from Marceline, MO (another small town on Hwy 36). One take, after visiting my gma, we drove over to Macon to check out this winery. It was beautiful inside! The women who provided our wine tasting was very knowledgeable and could tell us about each wine as well as the history of the winery. I am a sweet wine person, so I enjoyed (and bought!) Duck Creek Red. My mom is an apple fan, so she bought a bottle of the Dry Apple wine. Can't wait to go back!

The wall mural on the deck is very nice. I want to come back when the weather is better to sit out on the deck. The people that were there were from the town. They were all very friendly. If you have a smile on I'm sure you'll make friends and enjoy the time spent there. We didn't taste all the wines while we were there. Our favorite though was the Wagon wheel. The sparkling wine was also very good. I really loved that it wasn't pretentious. Thank God no wine snobs. This is a place to come, converse and consume. I look forward to stopping in again.

We've been traveling a lot lately and I was looking for something out of the ordinary, different from the usual corporate hotel stay ~ and boy did we find it at the Depot Inn & Suites! We stayed in the Sportsman Suite, one of four special themed suites. It was spacious, has a terrific jacuzzi tub with plentiful, very hot water, fireplace, big screen TV plus a second screen dedicated to train TV and more. Very comfortable bed and plush linens. Enjoyed playing billiards a few times during our stay, as well as their complimentary breakfast, which includes make-your-own fresh waffles, scrambled eggs and sausage, a variety of bread products, oatmeal, fresh fruit, packaged pastries, yogurts, juices, milk, chocolate milk, teas and coffee. More than sufficient and certainly more than an average "continental" breakfast. Lastly, their staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Shoutout in particular to Sonya, who may be the most welcoming and delightful service provider I've ever encountered. She was so sweet and warm during our entire stay. I'm just sorry she wasn't on shift when we left so I missed thanking her one last time. Thanks, Sonya! Hope to see you next time.

We did a private tasting with the owners Denise and her husband, the wine guy, who piped in from time to time with technical details. Their love of wine and ambitions to put Missouri on the vintners' map was obvious. They shared the history of their vines as well as their interesting experiments tweaking the wines to develop their complexity and body. Definitely lifting the bar for Missouri wines to a new level of sophistication. Post tasting we enjoyed a delicious pizza and some great live music. If you get a chance to hear John Reece sing , go!! He brings to the table smooth, clean vocals or raspy rock whichever pairs best with the music. Next time we hope to enjoy the winery's beautiful, pond side patio.
