Although it is quite a trip to get here , it could be made into a great Saturday road trip for the KC people! Shatto Milk is 15 minutes away and offers fresh milk , butter and ice cream. Also, this place is on the way to Jamesport, MO. Jamesport is a great destination for green houses, fresh baked goods, and small town antique shops. Pro tip: there is a house about 5 mins. away that offers fresh cow's milk( unprocessed, and raw). We have been going to this sandwich store for over ten years, and I'm just getting around to writing about the awesomeness that is Old Cookstove. The sandwiches are fully customizable and features their homemade breads. They offer meat and cheese at a low price, but the quality is unbelievable. There is also fresh eggs, pantry goods and candy. The baked goods are offered daily. Fried pies: gooseberry( personal favorite, pucker power), cherry cream, black raspberry cream, apple..... the list goes on and on. Oatmeal raisin cookies : they contain secrets in those cookies, pure magic. The list goes on and on. Need a latte? Yep , they make them.

We stopped by for a peek and stayed for a Tea lunch with delicious tea, fruit, soup, sandwiches and cake. We had the Baked Potato Soup and Split Pea soup and both were delicious. My friend said it was the best Split Pea soup she had ever had (her grandmother had a shop that served split pea soup and she said Mrs. Little's was better :) ). At the end of our lunch we had enjoyed our tea blend so much we asked at the register if they sold it and we purchased a some to take home. Several folks came in during our visit and they ordered coffee drinks to go and picked them up at the register. So if you can't stay, order yours to-go! The bakery counter had several extra treats you could also order. The shop is filled with tea pots and tea cups for purchase. We enjoyed our food and sat and sipped our delicious tea in the the ambience of this lovely shop. Be sure and visit this super friendly shop when you are in Hamilton. I look forward to a return visit!

The owner was friendly and she had a nice selection of specialty coffees and drinks. We had an apple zucchini soup that was honestly not great, none of us ate much of it. We each had a different kind of sandwich and those were all really good; we had a grilled cheese, ham, and avocado. The fruit was as expected and the dessert, a one bite lemon cake, was really quite good (and that is saying a lot because I don't normally like lemon). Overall what you get for the price (around $11) is worth it, even if you end up not liking the soup like us. Note that drinks of any kind are extra.
