Situated right next to the Liverpool Library, the Black Rose Cafe is a cute little place for if you need a caffeine hit. Their coffee is fairly strong (left my hands all jittery one night), and if you have a bit (read: a lot) of a sweet tooth, I recommend the Caramel Latte, or the White Hot Chocolate. Black Rose also does fantastic, thin, crispy pizzas and delicious wedges, if you're feeling particularly peckish. The staff is friendly, and their eyes fairly light up if you ask for an alcoholic beverage, almost as if they're just waiting for you to get drunk and rowdy so that they can have an exciting night. The cafe is usually very quiet during the day, seeing as it's somewhat nondescript and doesn't appear to get much traffic, but that in no way lessens the quality of their fare. At night, though, it gets a little busier, and you won't have to worry about the cold on a winter night, because they have a nice big toasty heater in the middle of the outdoor seating area. Visited for a 21st party. This Italian restaurant has an amazing Chef. The antipasto was delicious and fresh. A very picky diner might frown at the bread rolls being room temperature rather than warm. The lack of traditional dipping oil was also a minor oversight. However, these transgressions were forgotten when the Calamari was served. Seasoned to perfection and you could taste the freshness in the soft rings without a hint of chewiness or strings. This dish told the entire table the Chef was an artist and we eagerly awaited the main courses. I tried the wrapped chicken with capsicum sauce. A fairly plain dish, but perfectly cooked. Tasty and nicely seasoned. However, the short rib was in another class. Perfectly cooked medium rare, with a thin crusty skin. The meat fell off the bone and melted in the mouth. This was the Chef fully meeting the expectations set up with the calamari antipasto. The exceptional short rib exposed a problem with the 'alternative seat' catering methodology. While I didn't hear anyone complain, I did feel those with the chicken missed out. Both mains need to be evenly matched up and I do wonder if a seafood dish might have been a better choice. But maybe I'm just being pedantic. There was nothing but happy diners in our party, so any quibbles I mention are largely irrelevant. The service staff were busy and attentive. The wine and beer flowed freely and we never felt neglected. The settings were functional and attractive. A large screen TV scrolled through photos of the birthday girl and family. A table was supplied for the cake and our party of 45 mixed and chatted between 3 tables with plenty of room. Warmed up bread, dipping oil and my quibble about main selection (more likely a customer choice rather than the venue) are the only visible weaknesses I could find in an otherwise perfect catering experience. The Black Rose Cafe knows how to nail a fantastic party. If you enjoy an Italian experience and want first class food, I can thoroughly recommend this cafe. It's a jewel. read more

Breakfast lunch and dinner it's all good food. This place has been a long standing favorite. The owner and staff are attentive and ensure you have all that you need and more. One doesn't bother about the decor when the food is this great. I find it's really. Easy to hop off the M90 from work pick up dinner to go and hop on the next bus home. Recommend anything from the menu especially recommend dessert of tiramisu it homemade and it magnificent. read more

For dinner on this occasion I grabbed the salt and pepper prawns served on greens with a tartare sauce, lightly fired and delicious. For mains a medium steak (sirloin) with vegetables and a mushroom sauce. The steak was cooked to perfection and the sauce added that little bit extra. Staff are very friendly and meals are quite a large serving depending in what you order and the place is very clean and cosy You can dine either inside or outside the cafe. A local cafe that offers excellent food, and great coffee. This is the place for home cooked Italian food, everything from pastas to pizza's and extra mains thrown in. With some recent additions of a good range of steaks, ribs, and pork off the Grill. For dinner on this occasion I grabbed the salt and pepper prawns served on salad greens with a tartar sauce, lightly fried and delicious. For mains a medium rib eye steak on the bone with an Italian salad on the side. The steak was cooked to perfection, the flavour and tenderness just perfect. Visited for coffee at 11:50 AM on 9th January 2018. No complaints re coffee or service. However, when looking at my receipt, I see I have been charged a surcharge of 20 cents. Why? My friends and I visited on Tuesday. Not a public holiday or weekend. So that is not the reason for the surcharge. I paid with a debit card not credit card. So that cannot be the reason. Have I been charged a percentage as is the need of some companies when paying by credit card? My payment method was EFTPOS which should not warrant a charge. 20 cents is not much but if paid by many really becomes profitable for the greedy and unscrupulous. Your receipt states "Thank you. Call again" No thanks. Leaves a bad taste being ripped off. read more

The owner "Anthony" was extremely rude to us and unprofessional. He could have been more courteous to ask me to put away the two pieces of sweets from outside in which I was eating, in which I would have happily done. However instead he chose to be rude and ignorant - mocked me in front of a friend. Not acceptable in today's customer service world. Will not recommend our organisation and friends from coming here again! The worse in all of Liverpool. read more

The pizzas here are always fresh and properly cooked. You can taste the difference. Every pizza I've tried has been excellent. I should state that I am yet to actually eat here, but I'd imagine it to equal, if not improve upon their take away and delivery. read more
