I've found One Medical useful for basic, transactional care - telehealth prescription renewals, UTI…read moretreatment/lab scheduling and convenient bloodwork for things like cholesterol. However, I would not recommend them for anything more. Unexpected Billing. I recently went in for a single annual physical. During the appointment I mentioned that a UTI previously treated through One Medical had not fully resolved and asked about another antibiotic. One Medical then billed an additional office visit at $549, on top of the annual physical. I was never told during the appointment that briefly addressing this issue would result in a second office visit charge. I have contacted One Medical to dispute this charge and despite multiple messages, have not received any response. What is worse, the antibiotic prescribed 1. Did not work 2. Was Bactrim, which I later learned is associated with an increased risk of certain birth defects including neural tube and heart defects when taken early in pregnancy (I was in my first trimester). None of these pregnancy-specific risks were discussed with me. Unnecessary testing / poor diagnostic experience. A few years ago, I developed Dupuytrens contracture, including the characteristic puckering in my palm. It was obvious what it was. I asked for a referral to a specialist, but the One Medical provider repeatedly told me that it was likely a callus, because of my age and race. She recommended an ultrasound and reassured me that it would be inexpensive because it was performed in-house. I was charged $700. When the ultrasound did not support the callus diagnosis, she then recommended an MRI and continued to reject my request for a referral.

After the surgery I get a call from their representative who hadn't opened the emaI with the dates requested for 3 days. She promised to work on schedule. Then I get communicaiton telling me her people only want to work full days and she has no one to send out because her people only want to work full days. Surely, she knew that prior and if she had reviewed schedule when it was sent it would have given me time to find another company. Here I am with no help and I work with cancer patients so no way to cancel work. THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN TO ANYONE AT THEIR MOST VUNERABLE MOMENT. There were no delays on my end. One of my main questions was pricing. A visit could be $20 or $20,000 and at this point I wouldn't be shocked at either. It's that much of a guess for me. I asked if they could provide the cost for a general wellness appt with no scans or bloodwork etc. the answer was no. She said prices are disclosed only after I come in and complete a meet and greet. I explained twice that I'd a newborn who hadn't had shots yet so getting her ready and driving to their location and having her in a doctors office when she wasn't yet vaxxed felt unnecessary and surely wasn't something a pediatrican would insist upon solely for me to get insights into cost structure, she repeated no price disclosure until I complete a meet and greet. It was then a harsh no for me. I loved the idea of Getzwell being a high touch, patient focused service whereas I felt like I was caught in a hard nose sales call.

Unfortunately, she wasn't a trial candidate and she was treated locally under Dr. Lo's care. At each point in the journey, he was open and honest about the options and whether they were in keeping with her goals (prioritizing quality of life over quantity).
