Excellent option for a quick lunch! Stopped in and grabbed a combo 2: Vietnamese sandwich and bubble tea. I selected grilled pork for the sandwich and Thai tea. The sandwich (as you could see) was filled with deliciously marinated pork and an excellent mix of fresh and crunchy vegetables. The carrot and daikon radish added the perfect amount of sweet and tartness. Also the bread was so soft and fresh. As for the Thai tea, it was just the right amount of boba to tea. I'm shocked I made it home before breaking into everything. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a quick bite with and want some bubble tea. read more

CLOSEST ENTRANCE: DICKS SPORTING GOODS I ordered two bubble teas and a macaron. They have a fine selection of treats as well. My macaron was white chocolate peppermint and While delicious and rather sparkly, it was chewy and didn't have that satisfying soft crunch most macarons do. It was sort of hard to bite as well. My bubble tea was a pineapple green tea with Lychee popping boba. I was very excited to find they had popping boba. They were small but very flavorful. My mom got a mango green tea with mango bopping boba. They are very full so be careful when piercing the lid or your delicious drink will go everywhere! Enjoy this place. Really did not like the taro milk tea and mango milk tea. 1) taste was chalky and the drink wasn't fully mixed. 2) the boba was very old. Tasted like straight white sugar and stuck to each other. Compared to other tea shops, it was extremely disappointing. After Black Pearl moved out of Fayette Mall, I thought it'd have improved but I was proven wrong. Save your money, not worth the $5+ for 24oz of disappointment. Or in my words, not worth the calories. If you want decent boba, make a trip to Cincy or Louisville to check out the bigger chains (Sharetea, Chatime) or boutique stores (Milk Jar Cafe). read more

I LOVE Bubble Tea and this business is one of the best I have found in the world. I highly recommend their Coconut Bubble Tea with tapioca boba. It's my go to drink. It tastes like coconut cream pie in liquid form. I also enjoy their iced coffee with coffee jelly and strawberry black tea with mango jelly. I've never had a bad drink here. It's always consistent. This place is AMAZING. I asked if any of the smoothies were nondairy and the woman working there said yes, so I got a Taro smoothie with tapioca bubbles. This is the BEST nondairy smoothie I have EVER had!!! And thank you so much to the employee who was super friendly even though I came in 20 minutes before close (so sorry)!! The other stuff on the menu looks great too but I have only had the smoothies. Yes they are sweet, like the other people have said. It tastes like a milkshake honestly!! I should start off by saying that I've been spoiled with amazing Boba shops back when I lived in Southern California. It was everywhere so competition to make the best Boba drink pushed all the businesses. There aren't too many options in Kentucky just yet unfortunately. With this bubble tea trend lacking in Lexington, places such as Black Pearl Bubble Tea can succeed by offering a sub par offering of smoothies and teas to try to ease our nostalgia or to just introduce bubble tea to those who are not familiar with it. Inside the Fayette Mall, there is little kiosk in the middle of the walkway with a couple of amazing photos of fruit surrounding these cups of smoothies. I came to found out that the fruit was only used for the photos and that the smoothies don't contain any fresh fruit at all. Instead, dozens of powders sealed on a shelf in Tupperware type bins is the primary ingredient. This gets combined with water and then the worker pours a syrup into the drink to give it some sweetness. Add a measly amount of tapioca balls in there and that's it. I almost felt cheated out of my $5 for this. Especially when I had to wait quite a while for the cashier to take more orders and then go make several drinks because the second young girl was too busy playing with her phone in the smoothie making area. I'm not sure if the unfriendly demeanor of the cashier was because that second employee wasn't helping out but they both clearly weren't the inviting faces that I'm sure the owner needs. This place does offer macaroons, candy, and even sandwiches. Obviously with the name of the business referring to the bubble tea, that is where they should excel however. Unfortunately, with pretty bad service and after drinking the science experiment, Black Pearl Bubble Tea isn't a place I can recommend to anyone. read more

If you need boba aka pearls aka bubble and some fake powders turned into juice with the miracle of water, then this is the place to go. It is smack dab across from the Fossil shop in Fayette Mall. I applaud the fact they offer Jellies or Crystals and love the fact they have boba. I do hate the fact that the only real fruit they use to make any of their drinks is the avocado. That kinda made me bitter. The worker was super slow and not very happy to be working there in general. She also didn't like me asking if they used real fruits or just powders. They also sold vietnamese sandwiches and random pasteries from around the world. I don't really understand their concept. Oh well. She didn't greet me I had to ask her if She could make me a mango w/jelly smoothie. she mumbled yes and rang up order took my ten and gave me the change turned around and went to make smoothie. When she finished she brought it to me and put it down before me without saying anything. Not thanks bye leave not anything. She seemed rude and not into her job. Maybe she was bored because no one else was there but her and no other customers just me and my husband waiting. Let me say this, the sandwiches are DELICIOUS. I constantly crave the grilled pork sandwich. Full of flavor, extremely filling, sometimes I crave two. That's the start to my review.... Sometimes you have to start with the positives first, right? Coming from someone who has been in the service industry my whole life... and have family that owns their own restaurants and business', I like to treat those who are paying us with the best service they can possibly recieve. Coming here has almost been a simple trade. Basically, tell them what you want, hand them the money, you get your food in 5 mins or so. No smiles, no thank yous, no way of making a patron feel good about spending money in small business'. I expect good service whether I'm in a 5 star restaurant or a mall kiosk (which is pretty much what Black Pearl is) . I hate the mall and purposely go for the sandwich.. so that's saying something. The portion was small, the drink was over priced, the Boba was stale and crumbly in texture and the drink was so over sweetened that my teeth hurt. Had to throw the drink away after a few sips. Drove out of my way to Fayette Mall and stood in a big line, noticing people continue to walk away once they got up to order. I had no idea why, until I went to order and they informed me they didn't have tapioca. How do you run out of a staple on your menu that is the basis of half of your drinks? Since moving to Kentucky, I have really missed being able to get boba tea locally. Naturally, I was beyond excited to find this place on Yelp, only about an hour from where we live. The location is nice and easy to find in the mall, but I was completely turned off by the prices! I think $5 and some change for a boba tea is absolutely ridiculous.
