We came to the escape room on Memorial day and had a blast. We did the Vanashing Act room. So many puzzles and things to figure out kept us (4 adults) busy but we made it out with 2 min. to spare!! While some of the "act" was a little on the corny side we still enjoyed our time. The guys running it were super friendly. It was a cool way to use (if I remember right) part of the oldest building in Black Mountain. We will be back to try out their other room the USS McKoy. read more

My cousins and I booked the Out of Time escape room for a bit of cousin bonding time during our family vacation. Some of us had done escape rooms before, and some of us had never done an escape room. The Black Mountain Escape Room experience lasted from the moment we entered the door to the moment we left. Jon was amazing and so entertaining, and the puzzles were difficult and numerous enough that all six of us felt like we contributed to the escape. And they were so much fun. Black Mountain Escape far exceeded my previous experiences with escape rooms, and I have a feeling it will continue to do so. Our game master was amazing and made sure to keep everyone engaged and involved. The room was in a historic building which was just gorgeous. All the puzzles were unique and well thought out. What a fun discovery in Black Mountain. I've been bringing groups of youth to the Montreat Youth Conference for years now, and wish I'd known about this place sooner! We brought 4 high school freshmen and two adults to try the "Out of Time" room. The folks who run it are so friendly and made sure we had fun. The whole experience was amazing! We made a reservation so the show started immediately which was cool and unexpected. I loved the guy who started us off, super funny and committed. Then we went in and there was no employee in the room but they were available by bell which I thought was nice to not be physically watched but still supported. Fantastic Experience! I read the reviews online before we went and they did not disappoint. We did the USS McKoy adventure. The room decor was so believable and very well done. We were complete novices, so the clues were tough for us, but the challenge was part of the fun. The best part was that you could contact mission control for help if you got stuck. I'm happy to report that we actually made it out! This adventure was perfect for our family. We went with our tween and teen and had a blast! They were old enough to enjoy the adventure and even crack some codes. (Note for the Moms - there are no bathrooms "in" the actual escape room, but there is one in the lobby for use before starting the 60-minute escape room. Me and my sweet angels took a trip up to Black Mountain, NC. It was a rainy day and we did not want to sit in the house all day so, I took them to the escape room in Black Mountain! My wife and I had only done one escape room in Charlotte before we went to Black Mountain Escape last weekend. We found this one challenging and immersive, and believe it would be a great experience for folks who have never been to an escape room. Our friends who went with us are veteran escapists (?), and they raved about it, too. John, our gamemaster, was the absolute best, most clever, and engaging gamemaster we have had. we did 2 of the 3 rooms on the same day in a 3 hour time span (USS McKoy and Out of Time) and we would have done the other if there was time and a slot open. love love love this place, go if you are at all interested, and be prepared for some amazing rooms, caring gamemasters, and special touches, maybe even a few surprises! read more

Based off the recommendations of fellow escape room enthusiasts we booked both rooms and neither disappointed. Obviously with escape rooms you can't go into much detail about the puzzles but the puzzles all made sense and flowed well. At no point we're we forced to make logic jumps in order to proceed. There were also no red herrings which is nice. The owner/game master was attentive and nudged us along as needed but not without letting try several times on our own. Overall these are great games and would recommend for both novice and experienced players alike. read more

We were looking for something to do indoors away from lots of others but that would be able to accommodate our large 9 person group. Someone in our group found this site and booked us for 1 pm on 24 September however we had to bump to 2:30 pm. We ended up being able to go earlier so the owner texted us to let us know to just text when we were 10 minutes out so we did and were promptly ushered in to the basement area of the building. We were welcomed and our youngest member (she is 2) was greeted and explained what we were about to do. We learned a small history about the building and area then our mission brief began. We were taken into a secret room and given instructions. I will not spoil it for you but it was super fun. We escaped with 11 minutes to spare and were hooked so we may do other rooms after this experience. We highly recommend this escape room and the owner. He is helpful, friendly and kind. Went to the escape room (USS McKoy) for our son's 12th birthday. This exceeded all of our expectations!! Jon was a welcoming host, fun and engaging... everyone had a blast!! The room itself was interesting and challenging, with S.O.S help available if needed (the boys really liked tapping for help). This easily tops my list of favorite escape rooms I've done so far! I've done around 15 escape rooms in NC, and the USS McKoy blew me away! The attention to detail, the set, the puzzles, the customer service, everything was superb. I felt a real sense of joy and enthusiasm from the owner, and you can really see it in the room design; I can tell a lot of work went into it! The room was filled with "wow!" moments (the lobby was also beautiful and had a few surprises) and the flow of puzzles was intuitive and engaging. I had a blast from start to finish! absolutely rediculous!! tried to book a room and they said we couldn't do it with just 2 people. so we tried to book their suggested room and it wouldn't let us. so we drove all the way there to try and book in person. nobody there so we called again and they say we have to pay for 4 people. Can't say enough about this Escape Room. My family and I have done quite a few escape rooms, both where we live and while traveling. This one is most definitely one of our very favorites. The room (we did the Time Travel room) was expertly crafted with puzzles that were so fun and challenging, yet entirely logical. This is not just a room full of 4 digit locks! The décor and atmosphere made it incredibly immersive. But what knocked it out of the park is the enthusiasm and acting of the game master. He had us laughing and excited from the first minute. This place is amazing. I've been to several escape rooms now and the set for this one was one of the best. The actual owner of the escape room was the one who greeted us and started us in the scenario. It became so immersive and fun almost immediately. The transition from room to room was so unique and surprising. It was so delightful. We even talked with the owner about how he built the rooms and designed the set. He is an extremely clever young man that truly cares about what he has created. Lastly I just want to give a shout out to the actual materials used...solid wood and real steal makes the whole room immersive the second you walk in. The girl at the front desk was super personable and friendly and went through not only the history of the place but also all the tips and tricks we would need to know when doing the room itself.
