I wasn't sure if I was in a 5 star spa or a a yoga studio- this is seriously the most gorgeous spot…read moreto practice that I've found in Sydney. I visited Humming Puppy through ClassPass and can't wait to get back. I'll get to the yoga in a second but I think it's worth mentioning all of the amenities these guys provide. Want to take a shower? They provide complimentary towels and bath products. Need to charge your phone? They've got portable chargers. Thirsty? Have some coconut water or a tea. Forgot your hair tie? They've got you covered. There's a great area outside of the studio that I could definitely see hanging out in just to avoid leaving this studio! The studio itself is a bit dark and mysterious looking, and it "hums." I took a Mellow Hum class, which was a yin-esque class where the room was heated to 27 degrees. The instructor was amazing, and the hour flew by way quicker than I wanted it to. This studio is also a 5 minute walk from the Redfern station so really easy to get to!

There's even a sweet brick laneway. Their motto is Good Spaces For Good People, and they host all sorts of stuff, from makers markets to yoga classes where a donation at the door will get you in. Check out their website for upcoming events, there's always something cool in the works. If you're looking for venue hire, or a kick-ass backdrop for your photography shoot, drop them a line. There's a ton of inspiring and just plain rad spaces to use for your event.

Even after I moved away from Petersham, I tried a local yoga studio and it just wasn't the same and so I came back. Welcoming vibe in class, not too bright and, while it was hot, it wasn't overwhelmingly hot. So central you can get anywhere after class quickly, after you have a shower of course! They have beautiful images of Sydney waiting for you whenever you face forward and the mats are all set up for you at the start of class. The entire place is beautifully decorated to help you feel like you've really escaped the city. There's a screen in the class with some scenery videos playing, it's not distracting at all. I can't wait for my next class at Urban Yoga!

They deal with all levels of ability, from highly experienced yogis to my teenaged son who couldn't touch his toes (and now can). All bodies, all ages. I am challenged by my practice over the last half year and can see a beautiful difference in my body - becoming stronger inside and out. Love this place. A funny story: from time to time, Tamar would refer to "Guruji" saying Guruji said this or moved his shoulders like that. A gentle, understated reference, clarifying an action or attitude toward the practice. It took me a few months to realize that she was referring to BKS Iyengar, the founder of Iyengar yoga! They learned from the master and it shows.

The studio is clean and hygenic, with quality equipment and great extras (like supplied towels, because as if I can remember to bring my own). Studio classes are a max of 4 students at a time, so you generally get personalised attention unless it's a particularly busy Saturday morning and things are a bit crazy. Teachers spend time learning about each students body and modifying the program where necessary to make each student comfortable - I always feel confident that I'm in good hands, no matter which teacher I'm seeing or how badly my back is playing up. The only down side is being in a studio class when an XTend Barre class is on - the soundtrack is terrible! Haha I kid (although some of the songs should be left in the 90s)
