Having read about Doris Records online before my trip to Buffalo--that they've been around since…read more'62 and sell jazz, blues, hip-hop, R&B, gospel, etc.--I was pretty excited to check this place out, along with some of the other record stores in town. When I finally got there I was a little surprised to find out that Doris Records doesn't actually sell any records at all, though they had in the past. They do have a pretty big selection of CDs though, so I figured I'd look around for a bit. Eventually I found a great collection of gospel music from the '50s and '60s by Swan Silvertones, which made a major contribution to the musical soundtrack of my road trip around the state over the next few weeks. I don't know if it's ever been part of their plan, but it would be awesome if this shop had a few bins of used vinyl for sale. I bet they'd get people bringing in some pretty incredible stuff. And then the name of the store would make more sense too. It also wouldn't hurt to be a little bit friendlier to the folks who drop in. I'm not the type that needs to be coddled at all, but I was the only customer in the store, and I got the impression that they really wished that I would hurry up and leave. But you know, they've been around since 1962, so they must be doing something right.

Calm and friendly vibe. They have notebooks and tons of book-related accessories too. I even found a wax seal and the wax to go with it, for fancy letter-writing. Signs indicate that several book clubs meet here so if you're looking for one, this might be a great place to start your search. Parking is available on the street - and there are other great businesses within close walking distance too, a coffee shop, plant store, brewery, and more. It's also right along the bike path for an easy break during a ride.

I saw several older ones that are hard to find. The store has lots of tiny nooks and crannies full of books that feels like a mini-adventure. They also have a nice selection of stickers and some other fun book-themed goods (mugs, candles, etc) so it's a nice place to find gifts for a book lover. This isn't a place to spend hours in but well worth a stop (especially if you are also checking out Rust Belt across the street). Pricing is decent and staff is friendly.

He wasn't sure they had a comic series I was looking for in stock. He looked it up on the computer and went down to the basement to get me the issue I was looking for. I also enjoyed the zine wall as this allowed me to browse local comic artist creations that you would not usually find. I wish I lived closer to this shop. They have a good selection across many genres, even a children's book selection. Our 7 year old found a couple books to take home. They have a monthly book club. I loved the hand pressed zines. Everything is organized by artist so if you are looking for something in particular you can hopefully find it. I could honestly spend hours browsing here - great repeat for customers!
