I spoke to the owner Sam and asked about their hygeine procedures. She insisted on showing me around and explaining exactly how they do things - very reassuring. I've been in some tattoo/piercing places where they sneer at you for any question you dare to ask, but this couldn't have been more different, she was happy to chat and answer everything. Since the jewellery they had in wasn't quite right for my ear she recommended somewhere I could get a suitable piece (another point in favour - wanting to do things properly rather than just take my money) so all in all I went back there about four times before actually getting it done - got a friendly and helpful reception each time. It's a slightly tricky and painful piercing, but it helped that I felt assured that Sam knew what she was doing, and she was the right mix of sympathetic and businesslike. She asked me a couple of times if I was ok or needed a drink of water, but didn't fuss too much or prolong things - perfect for a wuss like me! Plus she asked if she could take a photograph at the end which made me feel like a celebrity, always nice (delusional? :p ) I ended up with a wicked piercing and some good advice on aftercare with a free bottle of their saline solution thrown in. If I decide on another piercing I'll be back here in a heartbeat.

It took a good few weeks of work to get a completed design (this isn't the sort of place you go in, look at some pictures on the wall and go 'I want that one'), and it cost a bloody fortune - I swear I own a fair size of it - but it was absolutely stunning. The guys are incredibly skilled, talented, inventive and professional.

So as for a review, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I started getting my piercings here as a one off really and found that they simply are the best place I've ever been. The staff are really friendly, really professional and know what they are talking about. I now only use this place for any of my bod mods, and I have to travel nearly an hour and a half to get here (I have to use public transport :/) but because I know the service I receive is phenomenal and prices are superb, it's worth it.

He did a rough sketch on my skin with pen and I'm not going to lie it didn't look good. I showed him a picture of what I wanted and he started to draw it out, but it didn't look like anything like what I'd shown. I mentioned this and he re-drew. He spent a grand total of 2 minutes re-drawing and I said very politely that I liked what he had drawn but wanted one part of altering - I feel entitled to say this as it is going on my skin permanently. This seemed to anger the tattooist and he slammed the iPad case shut that he'd been drawing on and proceeded to swear at me. At that point I said "I'll leave it then" and he then stood up abruptly and tore up my consent form in front of me. I could understand this behaviour and treatment if I'd have been demanding, rude, unreasonable, if I'd have asked for it to be redrawn well over a handful of times. And if the tattooist had have been drawing for a long time. But I didn't and I wasn't. I don't think I was in the shop for more than 10 minutes. Definitely will not be setting foot in there again. Not a pleasant experience at all.

I was wandering, a little aimlessly it's true, around Headingley and came across this place. Having not seen it before I decided to have a bit of a closer inspection. The most striking thing about this place is the floor, which will take you by surprise (not so much now, I guess), since there is a section with a pane of glass underneath which are some artfully placed 'blood' splatters! I took it, as I assume was intended, as actually really funny and rather tongue in cheek. Pretty hilarious, props to them. Browsing through their materials there were a lot of very artfully designed tattoos, though if I ever get there I think I'll have a friend help me design my own just to personalise it. As well as tattoos this place offers piercings, fashion jewellery, free hand designs and student discount. (And of course a health registered studio!) Fancy getting inked? The first time I went, I was totally put at ease by Luke, the piercer, who made me a cup of coffee and showed me the magazines. Dave Bewick, the owner, is a skilled artist who has trained under tattooists of note, not just in the UK. It's obvious all of the staff care about what they're doing, including making you feel comfortable, and making sure you'll be happy with your tattoo/piercing. Cost is around £70 per hour, and they prefer to do a consultation visit, and then invite you back to the studio (unless they have time, and it's small of course!)

He'd had a couple of rather sub-standard tattoos done before at a dodgy establishment down a side street in the city centre, and wanted them fixed and merged into something a bit more impressive - admittedly, no easy job. Not to fear, however, because the two guys who work in this place are skilled - my friend and I left a fair few hours later (they take their time, but its worth it), with him ecstatic what the artist had done on his upper arm. I'm no tattoo fan, but I can appreciate a good one when I see it, and (since he took the bandage off) I've had nothing but appreciation for my mate's body art.

There is much talk about central tattoo parlors and Station often goes unoticed, especially by students in the area. The clientele seems a little older than studio's such as RED. I am one of the many that dismisses this studio as my tattoo's have all been done else where, nevertheless I have heard nothing but good reports about Station, especially on the design front! The two blokes that run the shop seem to have a sincere passion for their work and see their tattoo's as an at form. They don't seem scared to take an active role in designing and drawing which I feel really assures customers. Prices seem very average, if not a little lower than city center prices and the customer service seems to be really, really superb. For a tattoo with a personal touch, drawn and inked by an artist who takes pride in his work this is your place. This is not a dodgy little tattoo and piercing joint, these guys love their jobs which is evident by their roaring trade.

This is a review for Tim Brown who is a tattooist at Custom Tattoo…read more Tim has been tattooing since 1976. I knew exactly what I wanted and where. Tim said it wouldn't work as some of the lines were too close together. Within a few minutes we worked out a tattoo that would work and I booked myself in. When Tim had drawn up the tattoo he rang me up, I called in to have a look and approve it. As I was booked in for the next day. It was all systems go. The tattoo I wanted was to be placed over my ribs which is a very sensitive area. Tim recommended I use EMLA Cream to numb the area. He said it would only last until the outline was done but he advised and I am glad he did. Putting the cream on a couple of hours before and covering with cling-film was messy, but I am really glad I did. I got the cream from the chemist £3.11 a tube. Tim kept asking if I wanted a break but we pushed on only taking one break. It took 3 hours tattooing time. There are loads of free advice and any touch up work which may need to be done, is all included in the price. Tattoos may need touching up if the ink doesn't take properly or if you accidentally knock the tattoo before the ink has permeated properly. I was very impressed from start to finish. A very no nonsense 5 stars.
