Awesome, awesome tattoo studio…read more I haven't had any tattoos done from here, which might not make me an expert, but I came to a lot of sessions with an old boyfriend who had an entire back piece done. It took a good few weeks of work to get a completed design (this isn't the sort of place you go in, look at some pictures on the wall and go 'I want that one'), and it cost a bloody fortune - I swear I own a fair size of it - but it was absolutely stunning. The guys are incredibly skilled, talented, inventive and professional.

I have know Rob,the owner of Border Rose for longer than he has been a professional tattoo…read moreartist, and the day he opened up his own place was a good day indeed. He first tattooed me in 1997 whilst he was serving his time working for another local artist, and since then nobody else has been allowed near my body with ink filled needles or piercing implements of doom.... His apprentice Abi is pretty damn talented too,and the lucky woman has a tattoo by world reknown artist Paul Booth on her hand!!! The actual studio itself is warm and welcoming and seriously friendly.Rob being the type of artist who likes a challenge,he is happiest when he can get his teeth into a bit of custom work. I basically gave him the letters ZOMBI and my forearm and said come up with something. He did,and pretty soon I will have a lovely Zombi tatt to show people who probably have no interest in my arm at all : ) A word of warning though,Rob is a busy man,you generally have to make an appointment to get a tattoo from him,Abi on the other hand, being the apprentice often has more free/spare time. That is how you can generally tell how good a Tattooist is,if you can walk right in off the street and get a tatt done then they are doing something wrong,a good Tattooist is usually booked up for a few months at least (Cancelations not withstanding). You can't beat a good Tattoo, and not many Artists can beat Border Rose......

I visited on the morning of my 40th birthday to see if I could be squeezed in for a little birthday ink. Lo and behold a few hours later I got a call, jumped in the car and got my birthday tattoo done by James. I love the vibe in Border Rose, even if you are not a personal friend, you soon feel like one. It's always spotlessly clean, professional and a fun place to hang out whilst your other half gets some pain delivered! Go get tattooed there, I dare ya!

Rather than discuss what I wanted with the tattooist, I was left in the uncapable hands of some 'kids' who refused to lsiten to my request and generally messed me about. Fortunately the tattooist himself was far more sympathetic to my needs and I'm happy with the end result. Unfortunately, they've yet to come up with a pain free way of giving you a tattoo but the price was reasonable and I would visit again, though perhaps not for a complex design as I'm not sure I'd trust them to deliver.
