Well if that's what you want, there you go but if you're looking for original artwork that is custom designed to suit your needs at a perfect cost, then Black Crown is the only place to go. Black Crown is relatively new to Leeds however, the tattoo artists are a combination of former artists from Leeds' two top tattoo studios Ultimate Skin and Physical Poetry. The best in Leeds have combined to open up this brilliant tattoo shop. The shop is set in a really nice location, a minutes walk from millennium square and the decor is right on trend. I highly recommend Chris, he's done alot of work for me and has great experience as an artists. He puts his all into his artwork, creating something original with all the aspects you want. All the guys in Black Crown are great to talk to and aren't your typical tattoo shop types, you know tattoos on the face, huge muscles, not interested in anything you have to say types. Their hourly rate is £70 which is pretty average for fabulous artwork. If you're paying any less than £60/hour you're probably at the wrong place. You pay for what you get at tattoo shops and what you want is something that you aren't going to regret or dislike. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=250626734548 Visit their Facebook group for portfolio work and to see what great things people have to say about Black Crown Tattoo.

He is amazingly talented, very quick and super imaginative. He knows his art and what will look good and he doesn't commit to a piece unless he is 100% about it (which helps when it is going on your skin forever.....not that some other artists feel the same!) I would recommend this studio highly. From the minute you walk in and witness how clean it is, to the stunning, gentleman's club decor, this studio fills you with confidence. Looking through the portfolios on display only cements this feeling. Only thing is that you need to book in advance, but if you're flexible (unlike me!) then you should be fine.

Worth the travel. Tom Au, one half of Tenacious Tattoo is…read morethe brother of a friend so when I found out he had trained to be a tattoo artist and opened up his own shop I thought I would test his skills. I am very indecisive and never thought I would be able to choose a design that would last me the rest of my life but I knew the basics of what I wanted. So I emailed Tom and in just a couple days I had the most perfect design drawn. The drive from Manchester to Sheffield took just over an hour but was well worth it. Tom spent a good amount of time getting the sizing right and then drew the tree on me free hand. It looked just like the picture I was very impressed! And so the fun began. I had already had a tattoos before so I knew what to expect. The first tattoo Tom did for me was on the same part but opposite side (if that makes sense) of my body to a previous tattoo that hurt quite a bit. But Tom has this super calming manner about himself that he seems to share. I'm not saying it was pain free, but it definitely was less painful by a huge amount than my previous tattoos. Anyway, I lay there for 4 hours and the end result was fantastic! And the best part of it is I know it is unique because Tom designed it just for me and changed the parts I asked. I have since been back for more work done and plan to go back for the rest of my days. I would thoroughly recommend Tom from Tenacious Tattoo!

Then, cup of tea in hand, I lay back and let her do her work. I've had several tattoos from various studios, but Deryn is the best artist who has ever tattooed me - she's calm, happy to chat to take your mind off things, happy to take a break if you need it. The designs done by her (wrist and ankle) barely hurt at all. The shop (just round the corner from Darnall train station so fairly easy to get to) is welcoming and scrupulously clean, and all the staff are really friendly. They're very dedicated to making sure that tattoos are done right, so everything is (as it should be) sterilised/wrapped etc. Even with the high quality kit out and service, it's still incredibly moderately priced. Looking at work done by the other artists I'd say this is one of the best studios in the UK, and with a range of specialisations there will be an artist to suit most people. I can't see me travelling anywhere else.

I spoke to the owner Sam and asked about their hygeine procedures. She insisted on showing me around and explaining exactly how they do things - very reassuring. I've been in some tattoo/piercing places where they sneer at you for any question you dare to ask, but this couldn't have been more different, she was happy to chat and answer everything. Since the jewellery they had in wasn't quite right for my ear she recommended somewhere I could get a suitable piece (another point in favour - wanting to do things properly rather than just take my money) so all in all I went back there about four times before actually getting it done - got a friendly and helpful reception each time. It's a slightly tricky and painful piercing, but it helped that I felt assured that Sam knew what she was doing, and she was the right mix of sympathetic and businesslike. She asked me a couple of times if I was ok or needed a drink of water, but didn't fuss too much or prolong things - perfect for a wuss like me! Plus she asked if she could take a photograph at the end which made me feel like a celebrity, always nice (delusional? :p ) I ended up with a wicked piercing and some good advice on aftercare with a free bottle of their saline solution thrown in. If I decide on another piercing I'll be back here in a heartbeat.
