The name of the store comes from the fact that they carry items from around the world. I love shopping here because you will find items you won't see anywhere else. I always get compliments when I wear something from this store. My sisters-in-law call it "the leggings store" because they carry so many (supersoft) leggings. Juanita told me she had a bag of bargain white tee shirts in the back - all $1 and all 4X! She said she bought them from someone who assured her they were all different sizes. They were not. In hindsight, I should have bought one or more. You never know when you might want to be swallowed up in a soft extra large tee! She also has a lot of books, all reasonably priced. She has the lowest prices of any consignment store in the Asheville/Brevard area. I visited another consignment store in our area people talk about but oh my gosh! Their Chico's dresses were selling for $50+ and their t-shirts were selling for $20! There is literally nothing at Diane's over $20 for a really nice dressy dress - most things I buy are around $10. Just today I bought a bright pink / coral Ralph Laren cable knit sweater for $11. Now, you know a new Ralph Lauren in the store would be $80 or more. I also got 2 scarves and a pair of Bjorndal shoes today for a little over $30 total! Love Diane's scarves - she has hundreds of them and they're all very pretty: florals, geometrics, paisley's, etc: I have six scarves & get lots of compliments from people when I wear them. Lots of sets of necklaces & earrings to choose from (bracelets available, too), purses, shoes, lounge wear, dinner wear.... check it out. TBC has petite to plus sizes for women and juniors. Clothes are arranged by category and size. I saw beautiful stuff! Make sure to check your picks before purchase. You can try them on in the bathroom/dressing room. Do not let that turn you off- it is very clean. TBC also has shoes, scarves, jewelry, belts, bags, and a smaller room dedicated to knickknacks, men's clothing, and books. My husband found a nice pair of Haggar pants for one buck, yes one buck! Ronni found a "Betty and Veronica" mini-comic. The volunteer there was very sweet. She told us that anything with an "April" tag was one buck. We went at the very end of May, and of course I was picking stuff with "June" tags. Thus, we spent three bucks per item. I like this place, as I can just focus on myself and my older daughter. It is not huge. It is not overwhelming. Donations are accepted whenever the store is open. I saw at least eight filled kitchen-sized trash bags that someone had dropped off, so keep that in mind. Donations are tax deductible. Volunteers are always needed. Check out their Facebook page to see their stuff. If you go, they are in the West Sylva plaza, right near "Harold's". Monday through Friday: ten to five; Saturday: ten to three. Sunday is a day of rest. Go to support female empowerment!

He told my sister how to pop the popcorn she purchased in the microwave in a paper bag (and gave her some extra paper bags) and he let us try the Amish pain relief cream. He was full of stories and overall just a really nice man. I don't see how this place got a negative review. I'm tempted to drive the 5 hours to go back because I really love the handmade oatmeal soap I purchased!

I chose four replica vintage spice canisters and moved on to look at some vintage signs. The storekeeper rushed me out of the aisle with an abrupt "excuse me" and began slamming boxes around angrily on the next aisle. I thought maybe he was just having a bad day and gave him the benefit of the doubt. Then I noticed that there were little handwritten signs on all kinds of items around the store. "Do NOT touch lamp, do NOT get the signs out of order (vintage sign replicas in a bin, how are you supposed to get them out of order?), do NOT, do NOT, do NOT - there was even a sign on a cheap little clown figurine that read "broken by a LOSER" (I assume this LOSER must have been an actual customer)?! Mind you, nothing in the shop was actually vintage or antique - all just typical souvenir quality reprints. My husband and I looked at each other like "oookkkaaayyyy" and put our selections back on the shelf and left. The souvenir shops in this area are a dime a dozen and it's unfortunate that a shop with a "stand out" name like Tarnished Swan didn't have the customer service to match. As far as I'm concerned, there is a "do NOT enter" sign on this door!

My favorite shop was Lilly T's Clothing Company. They had an appealing collection of women's clothing. It got me in the mood for spring and summer. Lilly T's Clothing Co. is a boutique specialty shop that sells women's clothing, accessories, and jewelry. They sell American-made clothing from brands such as Lulu-B, Habitat, Multiples, Jess & Jane, Too Fan, and Tagua jewelry. My favorite brand was their large colorful collection of "Lulu B" tops, jackets, and casual dresses. The colorful printed fabrics were so attractive! Also the fabric looked wrinkle-resistant and great for travel. I love the top I bought, that has a short zipper, long sleeves, and a light blue and white Hawaiian print. It looks perfect for a cruise trip. If you go to Brevard, NC, and want to shop, don't miss Lilly T's, on Main Street by Broad Street!
