I moderated a panel last week and a panelist I was being introduced to said, "yes, the woman with the most amazing head shot." Yesterday morning we did our 5th(!) family mini session shoot with Stacey in a garden next to the Capitol. It's wonderful to get these beautiful shots of our children growing up -- and have some shots with me that I love that aren't selfies! Years ago Stacey took an iconic (among our family and friends) photo of my son sulking off to the left of the Washington monument when my husband and I were were standing to the right smiling while pregnant with our daughter. My husband, 3.5 month old baby, and I wanted to get our first family/holiday portraits done and had…read morefirst scheduled to get our pictures taken at JCPenny. It was incredibly unorganized there, as they were over an hour backed up and also told us that since we were 5 minutes late, they couldn't fit us in and we had to reschedule. You try being on time with a baby! We ended up calling Picture People and they had an opening within the hour, so we went over and got checked in. It was a night and day difference of vibes! Picture People was spacious with better lighting throughout the space, and they had 2 studio spaces with many different backdrops. They also had a large variety of props for the holiday, and also numerous "containers" for babies (basket, little couch, sled). The staff was also patient while I nursed my baby. I believe our photographer was Marissa, and she was professional, kind, and so gentle on our baby. She managed to get him to smile AND snap a picture of it! All of our pictures turned out really good. After taking the pictures, you have to wait a while for them to select the best ones and do some light editing. Then you sit in front of a computer with one of the staff as they go through the pictures and explain their packages. We weren't too happy with the green screen backgrounds so we paid extra to get the original green screen pictures. The digital photos in an USB was a reasonable price, and you can purchase prints that they print out on the spot too. I highly recommend Picture People for quick and simple portraits, especially if you have a young baby!

It started with a lovely phone call for us to get to know each other and for Liz to get to know what our goal was for the photos. In our case the studio session was the right call. Our little one had some minor issues that left our hospital discharge date in limbo but Liz was so kind and accommodating in working with us to find the best day. It was a relief because it allowed my husband to join and worked around his crazy schedule. The studio is warm and welcoming. Liz is such an easy and gentle person and it was such a pleasure to chat with her during the session. Being a nurse and having little ones herself made me feel extra safe handing over my two week old for a couple of hours. She was really receptive to our wants for the photos. They turned out absolutely adorable! I squealed when I got the final images. We got some family shots, some cutesy shots, and some detail shots as well. Anika Steffen did my engagement shoot last year. I remember that there was a threat of storms that…read moreday, and she was extremely flexible, agreeing to move the shoot up to avoid the rain (which started shortly after we were done). I originally wasn't sure if we should do an engagement shoot because my guy wasn't too excited about it (i.e. he is a guy). But Anika put him at ease immediately and a lot of the photos captured genuine laughter, with all of them capturing the general happiness of the day. Everyone who sees the pictures says we look great and asks who our photographer was. She has an eye for picking out the best places to take pictures, and the pictures are edited in a way that really enhances the colors in every shot. At one point she suggested that we sit in a little fountain area that I remember thinking looked kind of weird. This is why I am not a photographer - those are some of my favorite shots of the day (I uploaded one here). I couldn't be happier with our engagement pictures...they will be going up alongside our wedding photos on our walls forever.
