Just got done with my second hunt with these guys. Clayton is the most passionate guide I've ever gone hunting with. Bitterwater outfitters is perfect for all levels of hunting. If you want to get your kids into hunting or if you want to go get that trophy animal. Everything from birds to water buffalo. They have everything set up, a one stop shop from sighting in your guns to the butcher. Clayton does an amazing job letting you jump in all the processes if you want or he handles it. I cannot recommend these guys enough. I am definitely a lifelong customer and planning another trip with these guys.

I rarely write reviews but I have to say the Hunter's Training course taught by Randal Parker was amazing! The man is full of so much knowledge and I could listen to him explain things (and tell hilarious stories) for days. He had so much patience for all our questions and was always excited to give thoughtful answers. That leads me to the best thing about Randal is his passion. You can feel how much this man just love every single thing about hunting and how excited he is to pass that knowledge on to others. I hope to see him again soon and learn even more!

Three out of the four pigs we shot

Went out with Bitterwater Outfitters and our group of four hunters all got nice pigs. We hunted in some beautiful Paso Robles terrain too. Clayton, Mike, Jeff and the rest of the crew are all professional down to earth guys. I was very impressed by the entire weekend. For the price, and level of service, you can't beat it. We all had a great time and I will be back to hunt with them again.

Just came back from a great and long hunt. The staff are friendly, gun safe and clean short oriented. This is not a "Fish in a barrel " ranch, you're on a ATV for awhile then spot & stock. You don't have to worry about your meat, they take good care of it and can help get it to your house. Just remember to show up a little early to sight in your gun or come a day early and enjoy Paso, another thing, fill your tank before heading out and take photos before they haul it to the ranch.

Had a great wild pig hunt with Clayton and the guys @ Bitterwater Outfitters last week. This was the first hunting trip my buddy & I had ever been on, and it couldn't have gone better. Everything was smooth from the time we contacted Clayton to set up our schedule, to the time we hit the pavement leaving the ranch. Clayton & the crew are a great bunch to work with. Arrival & check-in were smooth and easy. Mike got us sighted in on the range in a jiffy. We spent the afternoon just lounging in the Gillis house, which was superbly clean and tidy & stocked with all the kitchen utensils we needed to cook up some supper. We were out & on the pigs the next morning, right at sunrise. Clayton, Danny, and Ben were on-task with finding the pigs & getting us into a great spot to shoot from. There wasn't a single hiccup throughout our couple days there. I don't think we could have imagined up a better experience.

I was looking into a boar hunt with my father and found the highly rated Bitterwater Outfitters. I called and spoke with Clayton and booked a boar hunt for the first of the new year. Painless. I received a call a few days before the hunt from Clayton and confirmed the outing. We drove down there early and got the RV settled in. They had two RV hook-ups! We met Michael and sighted in our rifles quickly and were off to the hunting site. Two hours later we arrived and met up with Ty. Ty and Michael drove us around the property for about an hour before Michael spotted the first pig. Im not sure how he did it, as the thing was approximately 100 yards away on the otherside of an Oak tree. With only its legs visible. He quickly pulled me out of the canam and set up the rifle stand. The boar was quartering off heading in the opposite direction. I had no shot. Ty let out a pig call and the boar quickly turned and gave me his broadside, without hesitation I let loose with a 150gr 7mm mag round. Lung shot the boar was down. Michael field dressed the boar and walked me through how its done. The guys were relentlessly looking for boars, glassing and scanning constantly. We loaded the boar and were off to find my dad his own. Daylight was burning there was probably 5 minutes left of shooting light left. I looked at my dad, the look of defeat on his face. We both thought we weren't getting another pig today. Immediately after Michael was grabbing Ty and pointing into the distance. He was out of the canam in a flash, grabbing the rifle stand. My dad exiting the canam wondering what was going on. There in the twilight of sun down about 75 yards away a group of 5 to 6 boars. I was bewildered Michael spotted them from the distance we were at and was able to distinguish them from the cows in the area. This guy knows his stuff. With only minutes of light left my dad took the shot and took out the boars heart. Second boar down. Everyone was excited over the success of the day. After field dressing him we were quickly on our way back to the ranch. Michael began skinning the boars for us and let us partake in assisting even though we slowed him down. We talked shop and had a good time. Michael talked us through the butchering process and how that would go down. After eating some food we got a fire going in the firepit and cracked open the Coors. Overall, great experience 10/10.

Bunkhouse was perfect!

Bitterwater outfitters is the best in the business. Clayton and the guys took great care of us! We had two kids (9 and 11) with us and we couldn't be happier with the hunt, the facilities, customer service and overall feel of this place. We'll be going back for years to come and appreciate what they've put together down there. The bunkhouse was perfect and well equipped. Thanks fellas!

I had an epic deer hunt with Bitterwater Outfitters last weekend. They have some absolutely stunning ranches to hunt on. I had been excited about this hunt for over a year leading up to it and it went even better than expected. We saw 9 bucks, a bunch of doe and a good number of pigs including a massive 250 pound boar. There were a few different areas where we pulled up to a covey of 30+ quail. Also saw a big black bear cruising the plains which was totally unexpected and fun to watch. When we spotted the buck I was looking for, we crept up on it, and after repositioning a couple times I got the perfect broadside shot from 80 yards. Put it right behind the shoulder and ended up with a beautiful buck. My guide helped with everything from hunting strategy to field dressing and getting the meat ready for the butcher. Can't wait to share it with friends and family. I'll definitely be back for another hunt soon!

Made some great memories with Bitterwater Outfitters. We did the Wild Pig Hunt and were tagged out the first morning. We were guided by the owner, Clayton Grant, and Justin. They have a good group of guys here and we were well taken care of. Justin skinned and quartered our three pigs with no problem. Would definitely recommend this company to anyone and looking forward to coming back.

Hog hunting

The only thing better than the excitement that leads up to a hunt with the team at BWO is the actual hunt. Clayton Grant runs a first class operation at BWO. Any guide that your lucky enough to hunt with is friendly, knowledgeable and respectful of the land, and will make you want to plan your next trip back before you even leave. Looking forward to heading up that way again soon! Thank you for the great memories.

Great day out, first hunt with outfitters. No complaints, set up was a no brainer, and Bill was easy going and knowledgeable. Great options on big game And exotics Definitely going back

A photo before sunset and when the boars come out to play. Gorgeous.

I just returned from a weekend wild boar trip with my friend we had great time. We arrived Friday afternoon and was introduced to Zack, who helped us with sighting in our rifle and helped settle us in. Shortly after, we met Clayton Grant and his fun attitude and great hospitality made the stay at Bitterwater even more fun. We went out the same day we arrived and did an awesome night hunt with our guide Bryce. As Bryce took us around his property, which was so beautiful, It was nice to ask him endless questions about the land, ranches and hunts. Just seeing the beautiful rolling hills in itself was quite a treat and very therapeutic I might add. My friend and I both were able to bag both our boars that evening and participated in every step of the way from scouting to gutting to skinning to quartering. If you're going to take an animal's life, you need to give it the respect it deserves by participating in every step from beginning all the way to the dinner table. Otherwise,It's not truly a complete experience, in my opinion. The next morning, we woke up early because they were doing doing work on a cow carcass and we wanted to watch. We also happened to meet "Uncle Bob". He was so cool and drove us around the property and shared the history about the family ranch. We really felt connected to the land because of this and when it was time to leave, we left with an even bigger appreciation of not just the animals that roam the land but the people and operation that they run. Being from the suburbs, It was very educational and enlightening. In a nutshell, if you're a first timer and want to work with some down to earth people, I highly suggest you give this place a shot. Please respect the animal you hunt! I'll be returning this winter for another boar and a Turkey.

We arrived from Ventura CA (approx. 2.5 hr drive) and met our host, Mac. He had us sign in with Sheri (Hunting License required) and pay for our birds ($50/two Roosters or $48/three hens). Biscuits & Gravy, coffee and juice were offered for breakfast. We went out to the field and had our birds released one at a time to ensure the maximum opportunity to have my daughter hunt them. We hunted throughout the day taking a moment between birds to socialize and enjoy the day. We finished our hunt around 3pm and then came back to the office where we had our lunch. Sheri provided us terrific pulled pork sandwiches, Mac & cheese, chips and soda. When all said and done, we gave our cook (Sheri) a tip as a token of appreciation and said our goodbyes to Mac and Steve. Reflecting back on our hunt and the wonderful opportunity I was able to give my daughter, that was the best $100 spent (4 roosters purchased) for a day of hunting which included meals and guide services w/ hunting dogs. Almost too good to be true. Oh yeh, Jr. Hunters are now free with a paying adult (2 bird minimum). Can't get much better than that and a wonderful way to introduce our kids to the sport of hunting. Thanks Mac, Sheri, Steve! We will definitely be back and I will be sure to invite all my hunting buddies.

I shot my first wild boar (and a trophy for that matter) because of Tony and Ross' tenacity and passion for hunting. It's very clear they love to hunt, and they will absolutely work/hustle to make sure you get chances to shoot. I took down a 220lbs boar from 60yds. We saw boars on every outing. Just some background - I've fished my entire life, love the outdoors, but have never hunted. This couldn't have been a better introduction. If you are at all hesitant, don't be, because you would be missing out on a truly memorable experience. We stayed at the Priest Valley outpost. The accommodations are great and far from roughing it. Nice kitchen and large dining room table to enjoy a couple beers and some meat off the grill after your hunt with friends. There is also a pool table, sizeable flat screen TV, and sofa sectional. Bunk beds are very comfortable. Tony and Ross do a great job of getting you comfortable with the rifles, again safety first. After the detailed tutorial on the rifles, some target practice, and a briefing on how the hunt would go down, we were off on the truck. Not to get all soft on you - but the ranch(es) you prod for game are really pretty. You are spending a lot of time cruising around in the sun and fresh air, couldn't be better. Will spot all sorts of wild life - we saw elk, deer, wild turkey, and quail, to name a few. The cherry on top was the trophy boar I bagged on day 2. Again my hat's off to Tony and Ross - I look forward to many more trips.

I spent a considerable amount of time researching California pig hunting outfitters before deciding…read moreto book with Schmidt Guide Service, and I'm glad I did. For the price, nearly everything is included except food, making it an excellent value. Our group of four booked approximately six months in advance. I highly recommend reviewing their website beforehand, as it answers most common questions and provides a clear understanding of what to expect. About a week before our hunt, Sarah reached out to confirm our arrival and finalize details. Hunters can check into the lodge by noon the day before their scheduled hunt. Due to scheduling constraints within our group, the guides arranged for us to head out the same day we arrived at 2 PM. Upon arrival, Sarah was there waiting for us, handled check-in efficiently, completed paperwork, and provided our lodge key. The hunting lodge itself is a nostalgic home built in 1936 on roughly half an acre. You can feel the history the moment you walk in, reinforced by decades of photos displayed throughout the house. The lodge includes everything needed for a comfortable stay: a full kitchen stocked with cookware, plates, silverware, and essentials; a dining room; living room; four bedrooms; and 1 1/2 bathrooms. The bedrooms comfortably accommodate up to eight hunters. Outside, there's a fire pit, horseshoe pit, and seating area to unwind after a day in the field. Off to the side of the property sits an old-school saloon, butcher area, and walk-in meat locker, all adding to the unique experience. Now for the best part: our guides, Luke and his son Josh. From the start, both were friendly, professional, and welcoming. The ranch we hunted was about 25 minutes from the lodge. I was paired with Luke in his UTV, and his experience was immediately obvious. Having guided with Schmidt for 32 years, his skill and knowledge are impressive. His ability to spot hogs without binoculars or spotting equipment was unbelievable. We encountered our first group of hogs around 4 PM, and two members of our party successfully harvested by 4:20 PM. Luke quickly field dressed the hogs, and we were back hunting in no time. Later that day, Luke located another group, allowing our third hunter to harvest before the end of day one. The following morning, Luke and Josh were ready to go by 5 AM sharp. Not long into the hunt, Luke spotted a sizable boar, and our fourth hunter successfully harvested him just after 8 AM. After returning to the lodge, Luke and Josh immediately got to work skinning and preparing the hogs for processing. Their efficiency and expertise were impressive. By 11 AM, everything was packed on ice and our group was ready to head home. Our experience with Schmidt Guide Service was outstanding from start to finish. Luke and Josh are tremendous assets to the operation and truly made the trip memorable for our group. If you're considering a guided pig hunt in California, I would absolutely book with them again.
