The concept is very fun, with the idea of reusing vegetables which have been discarded for being betond their date of sale or being crooked. From the pictures on their website I was already looking forward to deciding what to eat. We met for a business lunch and decided to sot outside, since work is usually inside. Two of us enjoyed the chef's recommendarion of small tapas with a dessert, the third person opted for the pumpkin soup. It was delicious, nourishing and plenty. Inside the space is airy and feels positive, and I cannot explain why. For a team to decide to put into practice the measures that I would like to see more chefs and restaurants do, and to do that obviously successfully, is admirable and one I support straight from my heart.

These meals can be found on the board in the restaurant. No extensive menu, but let the daily different dishes surprise you. Thus for example, a brown banana is turned into banana ice cream and a square Brussels sprout into kimchi. We always have a vegetarian option too! The dishes consist on average of 80 percent of products that have been wasted otherwise. The remaining 20 percent is for example olive oil or milk, the products we still have to buy. There's plenty of seating inside, and outside, and it's seat yourself wherever you like. Our server was great, and provided us lunch menus in English. I also pulled up the 'drink' menu, and translated it into English (they have some fun beer snacks including bitterballen). I started with a tripel, and opted for the onion soup for lunch (and some bitterballen). The onion soup was very flavorful, with plenty of onions, and a nice piece of bread, with plenty of cheese on top. The bitterballen were very tasty, and exactly as I remember them - crispy on the outside with a meat mouse inside - delicious (particularly with a beer). We really enjoyed our stop here!

Well. We got married here. That might say enough. But lets begin at the beginning. This restaurant…read moreis situated in the idyllic town of Haarzuilens. It's quite like an open-aired museum: all the homes are retained in a sort of medieval style and the town wants to keep it this way. It's our own little Stars Hollow, for the Gilmore Girl fans out there. It's very near the castle (Ter Haar) and actually build in the same timespan. It used to be the gathering place for the town's leaders. Lots of history to the place for sure. The staff is very friendly and consistent. Some places have new staff all the time. 't Wapen has a senior staff that is always around and it's such a pleasure when they get to know you and remember you. The food is of good quality. They don't offer a lot of vegetarian options, but their pancakes rock and you will certainly get a bit portion of whatever you decide to order. It's a great place for families as well, old or young. For our wedding, we found out they used the upper part of the building for ceremonies and dinner parties (among others). We took a look in their ceremonial room and knight room and new it was the perfect place for our tiny, intimate wedding. We requested a completely vegetarian dinner menu (three courses with three options) and they altered a couple dishes to provide this for us. They accommodated our needs perfectly and we could leave everything to the experienced staff (they had more experience with weddings then we did, anyhow!) Overal the staff was so friendly and helpful and they made our big day into a wonderful, cozy and unforgettable pleasant experience. So yes, this place has a special place in our hearts. It might not be the best of reviews because, hey, not everyone plans to wed here, but I'd still love to share our experience. If you are in the neighborhood, add a walk through the castle's garden and the town and come here for lunch, dinner or a drink. On a beautiful spring day, I'm sure you will not be disappointed.
