It's a 5 star experience for the handmade pasta alone! Yum!! We've come here twice so far on our trip and will dine again ASAP! So nice to have a go-to delicious spot, also that's open until 8:30 on a school night. We have been very impressed with the contract tracing sign in, masks worn by staff, social distancing, cleanliness and quality of food. Great drinks and ciders too! My husband loves the haddock and fancy potatoes. I'm clearly obsessed with the fettuccini alfredo. Can't wait to try the pizza and steak next! read more

I do not know why this fabulous place would not show up in "Yelp" listings at all until I typed it in by actual name to do a review. I am beginning to rely more on Trip Advisor than Yelp since Yelp suppresses listings...perhaps if the establishments don't pay, which is a HUGE disservice to those looking for a great experience. And eating here would be one of those things. It's a wonderful little corner bistro with great food, and live local entertainment on the weekends. I had the Seafood Supreme -- scallops and lobster in a lemon cream sauce over homemade pasta. Absolutely delicious. In a small town like Annapolis Royal, listing all the available dining choices is an absolute must. And leaving one of the better establishments off of an already very small selection is just not acceptable. Do better Yelp, your reviewers deserve and expect it. read more

We are vacationing in this lovely little town and wanted an easy early dinner. We stepped into Bistro East and were greeted the minute we opened the door. Since this is high season, we should have had a reservation. They offered the two of us a seat at the bar and we happily took it. We enjoyed a full order of Caesar Salad which, was a good size to split. And a medium size 12" Greek Pizza. This was a great combination of toppings: feta cheese, black olives, fresh pieces of tomatoes, red onions and a drizzle of olive oil and dash of herbs. My only complaint was that our pizza could have used a couple more minutes in the oven, it was a bit undercooked. All in all, a nice meal accompanied by a local red wine! read more

We went to Annapolis Royal to play tourist for the day, and the first stop was Bistro East for a light lunch. The restaurant was about 1/2 full when we arrived. We immediately noticed that there was no background music and, although it's a nice older building, there's really not a lot of atmosphere. Still, it was comfortable and clean. Going through the menu the lunch offerings felt a little uninspired - Clubhouse Sandwich, nachos, Cajun Chicken Wrap, but several of the appies looked tasty so we decided to share a few. We chose the Cedar Brie, Steamed Mussels and Prosciutto Scallops. Our food arrived fairly quickly. It was beautifully presented, obviously someone in the kitchen thinks about what they're doing. The Cedar Brie, generously topped with roasted garlic and served with warm baguette and fresh fruit was a good sized serving for the price. The scallops arrived wrapped in prosciutto and served on a balsamic drizzle adorned with fresh blueberries and watermelon, very attractive, but the scallops were small and there were only 4 on the $12 plate. The mussels were cooked in a heavy chili cream sauce and served with garlic baguette. Again, the serving was small. Although we were a little disappointed with the size of our servings, we were quite pleased with the quality of the food. The brie was perfectly baked, maintaining a hint of cedar smokiness that was wonderfully offset by the pungent garlic. The scallops were also delicious, not at all rubbery, and perfectly balanced by the drizzled sauce. The cream sauce on the mussels was also nice, not too thin like the sauces served with mussels in so may other places. I did find the flavour a little subtle for my liking, but all in all they were still very good. Bistro East feels like it's caught in a bit of an identity crisis. The size of the servings, the thoughful presentation and the fantastic flavours scream fine-dining-wanna-be, but the atmosphere and menu don't really strive to comply. Annapolis Royal is a tourist trap town, so it's expected that (at least this time of the year) prices will be a little higher than in other places. That said, it's still small town Nova Scotia and I didn't get the feeling that Bistro East was playing to the tourist trap market. I'm not really sure what market they're playing to but I hope they figure it out because the food is delicious, and that definitely counts for something! read more

Companion had the fish chowder. It was very good. Tasty and a proper portion size. Two sizes available, smalller size as a side, or a regular bowl of soup. I had the salmon, which was served with steamed vegetables and potato wedges. The vegetables and potatoes were prepared from fresh, in house. Not frozen. The service was prompt and friendly even though we arrived just before closing. (not deliberately, just the timing) the food was well presented, flavourful and proper portion sizes, so we went away satisfied but not stuffed. In a word: fantastic. What a wonderful find in a wonderful town! I could not imagine being more satisfied with my first Nova Scotia restaurant. The atmosphere of Bistro East is intimate and casual. It feels like an old pub should...wood floors ,close tables and quick service. The place was packed during lunch hour, but we were seated right away and served quickly. The food came about when I'd expect at a restaurant of this type. And the food was fantastic. Absolutely scrumptious. I had a clubhouse sandwich and it was so full of flavour and a step above any clubhouse I've ever had before. My wife had a cajun chicken wrap and said much the same thing. The salads they came with were also excellent. I'd definitely visit again and would recommend it to anyone in the area! read more

What and awful experience. It started with a table for four being given for a reservation for five (three adults and two children in high chairs, this was not ready in advance and took quite a long time to get ready). The prices are high, portions small, quality of the food poor and the service is awful. Meal one: fish got stuck to pan and they served it anyway, vegetables undercooked potatoes burned. Meal two: Scallops undercooked, beef was inedible, tough and a poor cut. The vegetables were raw, a tea that was ordered and not served was still on the bill, even after it was pointed out to the server just before he went to get the bill. Third meal was pasta and it was average but not undercooked or burned so that made it the best of the night. It reminded me of a frozen pasta meal that you get in the freezer section of the grocery store. The server came by and asked how everything was and he was told about the issues with the dishes. He shrugged and left. We thought he would do something about it but did not. At the end of the meal he again asked how everything was and was told it was awful and that he didn't even bring the tea that was ordered. He then asked if we wanted desert and I said no. He then brought us the full bill, with the tea still on it. At this point I asked if he had a manager available. He pointed at a woman at the bar and said 'she is the manager.' and then walked away. This was a great little place we stopped at when we were in Annapolis Royal. Its a small little restaurant with some great food. I had the chicken club, Amanda did as well. We both really liked it. It came with a salad which was refreshing since most of our food during the trip was greasy (lots of fries and fried fish and stuff) Norm had a lobster roll and he said he liked it as well. If you are in Annapolis Royal check this place out, but don't bring to big of a group becuase its pretty small. read more

Well not a lot of places are open on Saturday especially when it's not the season so that was one of the few options. We stopped for lunch so I can't comment on the dinner menu or timings for preparing dishes when it's busy cause it wasn't at all(once again: off season) . Anyways... Ambience is not too fancy. It doesn't stand out in any way. They could have put a bit more effort, but for a "bistro" I guess it's okay. Their lunch menu is composed mostly of sandwiches. Be aware they're small! For $12 you get 2 small baguettes with a small salad. Food is quite delicious( the salad especially) but as I said meal portions are small. We also ordered a small pizza and I have the same comment about it. Quite tasty but small. Service is where I expected a bit more. The waiter was polite but not too friendly or attentive. For a small place like Annapolis royal I expected a bit more friendliness considering everyone else I encountered during the day was really nice. Everything made from scratch (pasta, pizza dough) which makes their food super-tasty. Stopped in here on our way through town and was pleasantly surprised to find such a tasty place. My girlfriend is vegan and they had no problem switching things up for her. They pulled together a delicious fruit plate for her. I had the cheesecake - superb! I went here for lunch and had the chicken Caesar salad with a side of garlic toast and a glass of ginger ale. The salad was good with a light dressing that was perfect for a hot day. The service was good with minimal wait time for food. The location is downtown within walking distance to the main attractions and across the street from the water and promenade. Price came to $24 a bit high for salad and a drink, but it is still tourist season so was not surprised. Good place for a quick and friendly lunch. read more

I would only give this restaurant three stars yes they greeted us and we sat down right away but it took them over 15 minutes to take our order. We ordered the chowder bowl and that was delicious. Took forever to receive it. I also ordered the Seafood Supreme. The flavor of this dish was delicious but me being Italian and I make my own noodles , the noodles were too thick for this dish. They should have been thinner and lighter. The scallops were also excellently cooked but could not find the lobsters. read more

This side salad had real fresh greens like they had just been picked - no iceberg lettuce here. The salmon was cooked to perfection and was served with some nice broccoli. Have been here twice for dinner while staying in the area on vacation, and discovered a scallop pizza, which I never knew existed. It's absolutely divine (no tomato sauce, it has a light creamy sauce instead). We all enjoyed desserts, I recommend the spice cake, it's not too heavy and hits the spot after a good meal. I've heard so much about this place since I moved here so I just had to try it out. My wife and I hopped on the motorcycle and made our way down(after we made reservations). When we got there, the place was almost full of people. The waitress was very pleasant and took us to our table. She told us the special of the day and gave us the menus. We ordered our drinks and they were promptly bought to us. Since I'm lactose intolerant, I asked what they had without milk products. She said anything they have can be made without milk. I ordered Thai chicken that was on the menu and my wife ordered a pasta dish. The orders came and the noodles were actually pasta instead of the Thai noodles. There were a couple of pieces of chicken that were shredded so small and so few of them. I started eating them but as I got halfway through it, there was so much sweet chilli Thai sauce( from a bottle that you can buy at grocery stores which is supposed to be used for a dipping sauce) that it became impossible to eat so I left the rest. My wife said hers was okay but not great. They charge $24 for that small bowl of Thai chicken and it wasn't worth half that. Will not be back! I think there was also dairy products in my meal because I got really sick later that night!! read more

Their food is delicious, however it is extremely over priced in the summer time. They take advantage of the fact that tourists will pay the extra fees, however come back any other time of the year and you will find reasonable prices for the exact same dishes. Example: out of peak lunch time Alfredo is $10, has a large serving of pasta and comes with a salad. In peak season Alfredo is $18, has a much smaller portion of pasta, and no salad. They try to make up for this with chicken bits in the pasta, however their chicken is flash frozen, lacks any flavor and is chewy. I've tried the chicken many times and I always leave disappointed. read more

Everything is handmade and very flavourful, the pizza was great with tons of fresh toppings in a perfect thin crust. The owners mother was wonderful and made our experience great! It is nice to see that Annapolis is becoming a little more "foodie" oriented. I have dined here a few times as it is my Mother's favorite place to eat. The menu is simple yet tasty and well serviced for vegetarians and those looking for gluten free. I have had their pizzas which are good. The sandwiches are nice, service is efficient but I would say that the kitchen is quite slow and any sort crowd in the small dining room seems to bog down the Chef/cook to a grinding halt.
