Black pork cutlets. Quite good, unusual dish as most places only serve the cured meat from this animal. Very good chestnut paste too.

We were recommended this restaurant from our nearby hotel, who were kind enough to call and place the reservation for us. It is a tiny place, with only around 5 tables, so a reservation is a good idea. The host, Miguel, is very welcoming and we were seated in the back room which has an interesting decor of tiling with notes from visitors from all over the world written all over it. Miguel was kind enough to help recommend a good wine, and food for us to have, simplifying the process of ordering. All of his suggestions were excellent! We started with house appetizers of white anchovy and tomato which was very good, and cured black pork, also tasty, although I cannot taste the supposed difference between this and normal cured pork. We then moved on to our mains - lamb stew and pork cutlets. The lamb stew was very good with rich broth and tender meat. We were sad to miss out on the leg of lamb but they had just run out. The pork cutlet was supposed to be another special item- the meat of black pork, not served outside the Evora region. It was tasty to be sure but not too unusual if you have eaten pork before. For dessert we had the house special of egg custard with cinnamon and almond pumpkin pie. Though these are typical desserts of Portugal they were of high quality here. Overall going to Bistro Barao is a good experiance with excellent food, warm service, and a nice cozy ambiance. They could improve the speed of the meal. I was a little confused as to why the hotel seemed to think it was the best restaurant ever, but it was certainly better than many places we've tried.

    Fantastic local wine

Bistro Barao is a charming little bistro run by a father and daughter. The restaurant is very small with just 12 seats inside. The father runs the front of the house and the daughter is the chef. The place has a very homey feel. This may sound strange, but you could feel the love and heart of the chef through her food. We started the meal with the cured Iberian ham and the cheese platter. We paired it with a local wine (It was fantastic). For our main course we had the partridge pie and the Black Pig pork loin. Both dishes were incredibly flavorful. The chef paired these with fresh salad sides - which we greatly appreciated. It was one of our best dining experiences on our vacation. We highly recommend Bistro Barao.

Found this restaurant recommendation on Yelp and it did not disappoint! It is in Evora on a small side street. It is small inside and has 5 tables but it spacious. Our host was great and went over the menu with us, they even made something special for our vegan. The octopus was cooked in a delicate batter served with a sauce and salad, it was cooked perfectly and very tender. We all loved the place, the food and service!

The entrance is roped out - when you try to get in, one of the staff members comes out to explain the 'rule'...basically two food items per person is required (requested), so you cannot come here just for beverages. There were lots of yummy tapas dishes described on the blackboard, but I definitely enjoyed my selection - well, thanks to the helpful staff to make my decision. The food across the board was excellent--every dish we tried was flavorful, well-prepared, and felt thoughtfully put together. You can tell there's real intention behind both the menu and execution. What really elevated the experience, though, was our waiter, Bernardo. He brought incredible energy to the table--full of personality, engaging, and genuinely fun to interact with. At the same time, his service was top-notch: attentive without being overbearing, helpful with recommendations, and clearly passionate about what he does. Great food is one thing, but when you pair it with service like that, it turns into a memorable experience. Highly recommend--and if you get Bernardo, you're in for a great time.

The restaurant is spacious including diners from the hotel and outside. Can be noisy if there is a large crowd however feels calm and homey. Ricardo is the manager/head of staff, super helpful & very patient. Rafael was one of our servers and he was so friendly and patient in answering questions. Immediately after being seated, we were asked who at the table had celiac. Menu is clearly labeled with gluten free items and dairy free options as well. Vegetarian items are also labeled. Gluten free bread is available for the table. The Shitake Mushroom Cream Soup with Truffle Mascarpone Quenelle is just absolutely the best soup ever; if you're a fan of mushrooms. The orange and Chocolate cake was so good! Portion size was just right! It was so great to be able to dine without being scared of cross contamination. Please note that at first this was hard to find, it is part of a hotel. Highly recommend.

After…read morehearing about their gluten-free offerings, I decided to give this place a chance for one of my evening meals during my trip to the city in the Winter of 2023. The interior is fairly comfortable with many tables suited to larger parties, yet the menu and prices seem to be more in line with fine dining, while the menu was limited, I was told that pretty much everything could be adapted to be made gluten-free. I ordered the Tandoori Chicken Breast which was listed on the menu as coming with potato gratin and some mushrooms, it also came with a small number of vegetables. While I was waiting for my food, they ended up bringing some gluten-free bread and oil to my table, the gluten-free bread was hot and individually wrapped so I was really excited to try it, but the bread wasn't good at all. One of the rolls was seeded (I hate seeded bread), and the other one just didn't taste good. After the bread, I was brought another dish, which appeared to be a slice of cheese with tomato and some sort of pesto dressing, while I appreciated them bringing this to my table as a mini appetizer, my server didn't explain what it was, so I had no idea on what I was eating. I was disappointed with the service overall, as they didn't explain the cheese dish they brought to the table, and were not too attentive during my meal, my glass of water fell empty, and they also didn't check up on how my meal was until the very end. Despite being quite spacious, they did put a large family including children right next to our table, despite having gaps in-between other diners and the space to do so which I would have preferred they avoided. The portion size was a little small, it would be ideal for a light lunch but if you're looking for dinner, it would be better suited for one to have multiple courses. My main course was actually pretty good, the chicken was cooked well, and the tandoori sauce was tasty, the potato gratin also was very good, I thought it was a cool idea to have little pieces of bacon inside it, I just would have liked a lot more of it. The carrots were hard and almost inedible so having a little more chicken, and a little more potato would have made it much more filling. A service charge did appear to be added to my bill, which was only a couple of euros, it didn't appear that they charged for either the bread or cheese plate. 3* - Many positives for sure, the food was good, I just would have liked more of it. Improvements to service are also an urgent must.

I didn't realize the Portuguese eat a little bit later at night. It felt like I was in my own private restaurant so that was super funny to think about. Otherwise, though it was such a vibe, it has such a cute interior with paintings on the wall a Christmas tree on the side and a more modern wooden finish. Bathroom is also located on the first floor and it's very clean. Service was fantastic. My waiter, Nabil, was so friendly. He chatted with me and told me a little bit about Portugal. English was not a problem for him and I had no trouble as an English tourist. Service was fast, and he checked in with me every couple minutes. I had gone here as a recommendation from a coworker, and it was fantastic. The duck confit was cooked so tender and served with rice and spinach. The rice tasted cheesy and rich and it was also perfectly balanced with the meal. I highly recommend that as a dish! Otherwise, though, I ordered the green wine and it was pretty good. In Lisbon, I was told to try the green wine because it's from a specific region. It tastes kinda like a Chardonnay.
