So nice! Also, they have bath tubs! It's nice to be able to soak in a nice hot bath after being frozen to the bone whilst on a Ghost tour of York. I'm not sure if it was weather that had me so cold or the fact that it is one of the most haunted cities in England. Freaky! And I got two proper sets of towels. That was really nice too. The beds were quite comfortable although I had a twin share, I was alone in my room. Somehow I lucked out with not having a roommate on my tour. Not complaining one bit. It was nice. The view from the room was nice too. The tea and coffee bar was a nice touch. The breakfast was top notch. A full English breakfast was served and they had a pancake machine! Coffee was still questionable swill but it's the UK, I should have been drinking tea instead. They had some tasty hash browns though. One of the better hotels we stayed in during our tour but wifi was not free. The wifi is £20 per 24 hour period (which is really expensive). The hairdryer is hidden inside a dresser drawer. This was unusual but at least it was easy to store.

Rooms that faced the garden had a great view. The people is very friendly. We did not use the restaurant or the bar but it was always busy.

It was the first place that we had stayed in - in our 2 week visit that the food was simply awful. From start to finish the food was worst than public school cafeteria food. Everyone in our party of 19 agreed that it was the first meal that we had received on our trip. The beef and potatoes with gravy and parsnips was something that I would not feed to my dog. It was smothered with a salty water sauce that supposedly was a beef gravy. The desserts were even more dreadful. As a trained pastry chef - the chocolate cake tasted like corrugated cardboard that was picked up in the desert . Also breakfast , every place we stayed on had wonderful Greek yogurt at breakfast, this place served watered down "country yogurt " that was never filled enough to get a bowl. I would not recommend a group tour staying h here. Everyone in our group agreed that the mattresses and pillows were simply the worst of our entire trip. Also we had a drink before dinner and sat outside - every table was piled up with dirty dishes and glasses and bottles . No one was clearing tables for the entire 45 minutes that we sat outside on the patio. Too many lovely places to stay instead of York Marriott.

Not just our room. The further back you are, the hotter it got. People commented about how lucky we were to be able to get a fan. Very uncomfortable setting. Food was good. Good choices at breakfast. They provide free wifi and lotion. The phone was incredibly dirty and rundown. When trying to call the front desk for assistance, no one answered twice. The staff were nice once we had to go to the front desk for assistance. It is loud/noisy through the door that is adjoining to the room next door.

The staff is warm and welcoming, "special shout out to Ian", it was clean, the grounds were beautiful, the room was spacious, complimentary KitKats and beverages in the room daily, and great bathroom. A quick note on the subject of the bathroom; it was good size, had a tub with shower, great water pressure, plenty of hot water, and good quality complementary toiletries. There is a restaurant onsite serving delicious woodfired cooked pizzas with great service. The bar was warm and welcoming with attentive staff and lively conversations. On top of everything else it is a nearly perfect location. You are a quick walk from the train station and the center of town where all of the attractions are located. This hotel does not have AC in the rooms but it is York so usually that would not be much of a problem but when we visited it was a heat wave. That being said they did give us a fan and it was really not that bad because it stayed reasonably cool as well as it cooling more at night. In short I cannot recommend this hotel enough and we look forward to hopefully staying there again if we are so fortunate.
