As an OU alum--GO GRIZZLIES! --I was bummed I hadn't utilized this great pool web. I was a student. Impressed w how big the seating and deck areas are--can't believe they have enough seats for over 1K--and honestly, very surprised that the seats weren't as terrible as some pool seats for spectators.

Seriously? Is this a gym or a library?…read more I don't know how many times I've been asked to drop the weights more gently on the platforms that are meant for deadlifting and doing snatch and jerks because I'm being too loud. No I can't drop the weight more gently because that's not how a pendlay row is supposed to be done. Just today I was asked to leave the gym because I was wearing some athletic boots to work out in stating that they were not soft soled shoes. What the heck are soft soled shoes? They did not even have a list of what is considered acceptable or not and no exact definition of what is appropriate attire according to their policy and it was also not written down explicitly anywhere. The employees here are ridiculous. I had the manager come in to clear things up and she said my shoes were acceptable. The employees here are just too much. They're over aggressive in enforcing things that do not matter. I'm a good gym member I put my weights back when I'm done and I wipe down my area, what more do you want? It's not like I was lifting in sandals. Here's the kicker. Whenever someone leaves like 6 plates after they're done deadlifting and they don't put back their weights no one says anything. Whenever someone leaves their sweat on the bench and doesn't wipe it down no one says anything. Whenever someone's struggling to bench and could use a spot from an employee who is otherwise just standing there, no one does anything. It's like this gym cares about things that don't matter and neglects what is more important - Helping their members succeed in their fitness goals and live healthier lives. Seriously, OU needs to step it up when it comes to things like this. If you have such rules then they need to be clear and explicitly defined not according to the subjective views of each employee such that it is inconsistent. And I'm not demanding it but, if you could tell people to wipe down their sweat instead of telling me to lift more quietly, that would be nice. Really disappointed in this gym.

If you live in Troy and have never been to the Troy Museum then shame on you! ;-)…read more The Troy Museum & Historic Village is a Mini-me version of Greenfield Village, but it's all about Troy. It has about ten historic structures, with plans to add two more after the purchase of the adjoining property. There isn't much of a museum in the main building, but most of the structures are from the 1800's and give you a feel for what life in rural Troy was like back then. The village consist of a log cabin (1840), a Greek Revival-style home (1865), a one room school house (Poppleton School 1877), a print shop, wagon shop, general store (1918), Old Troy Church (1837) and town hall building (1900). Information provided tells you where these structures were located in Troy. For example, the general store and the Old Troy Church were both originally located in Troy Corners (Livernois and Square Lake). Admission is free, but donation are gladly accepted. It doesn't take more than 45 minutes to view all the properties. Check out the websites for special events. You can even get married in the church and they rent out the gazebo in the center of the green for meetings, workshops and receptions. Take a step back in history and visit this quaint little museum. I knew I loved Troy for some reason!

If you are looking for a New York City experience right here in Southeast Michigan, look no further…read morethan the Lemberg Gallery. SPACE: is oddly shaped but has a lot of wall space for exhibitions. When I asked the lady in the front desk how long they have been at this location, she told me 11 years. ELEVEN YEARS???? I said, finding it hard to believe that here I am, an "art enthusiast "and NOT being here in this space at least ONCE in the ELEVEN YEARS they have been here!!! Either I am just really not in-tune with what is going on in this area as far as the art scene goes, OR they just suck at promoting their space. QUALITY of ART WORKS: On my visit, they have an exhibition called "Feast." Now I know that art is relative to every individual but to THIS person, I believe that, apart from one or two art works in this exhibition, the other works went WAAAAAAY over my head. ATTITUDE: I pride myself of tuning in to what people I relate to REALLY are thinking. For some reason, I have this odd feeling that after my reaction to NOT knowing the existence of this gallery for the eleven years they have been here, I was dismissed as being "insignificant." So there you have it: snooty attitude, in a small space with par or sub par works on the wall that most of us "commoners" would not comprehend. JUST LIKE NYC! (Or was that a blasphemy? :?P )

For anyone interested in contemporary art, Lemberg Gallery is one of the essential resources…read moreavailable in metropolitan Detroit. Their shows are regularly reviewed in the media and they represent some very well-known international and important local artists. Their shows are for sure aesthetically challenging, but that's why they're an important presence in our local cultural scene. Good art often asks us to stretch our imaginations and entertain ideas and experiences with which we would otherwise not be familiar. The gallery's history goes back several decades to North Woodward in B'ham when it was known as Cantor-Lemberg Gallery. It's one of a handful of serious galleries in metro Detroit. And rather than being snooty they are among the most approachable people as you will find in the local art scene. They are happy to spend time with you regardless of whether or not you are actually in the market for art.
