But once he started at the Phoenix School, things turned around. He came home after the first day and said, "It's like the teachers aren't even teachers--they're just people!" The caring relationship with his teachers, the community at the school, the way his teachers push him to do more than he thought he could and support him as he learns to push himself has been amazing. He loves school now and is thriving academically, socially, and emotionally. The way they integrate learning across all their activities is special. Students learn all the academic skills throughout all their activities, along with specialized practice in, say, math or writing, especially as they get older. They also use the community at large as their classroom with frequent out-of-the-classroom learning experiences that engage students far more than anything I've seen at any other school. Teachers support students as they produce high-quality work, with autonomy and ownership over their own learning. Teachers are among the most dedicated professional educators I've ever met. They work hard to create a community of students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members dedicated to the well-being and education of students as complete people. It's not possible for me to say enough good things about this school.

Although the academics are top notch, there is just something missing there. The homework load is…read morewaaaaay to much (at least in the honors classes), and that causes social lives to deteriorate. Yes your son will learn more than he needs to know, but without a doubt it comes at a price (not to mention $16,000). I hate the administration. They just are not very good. For instance, today they fired a teacher who was probably the best in the entire school. It was ugly and it occured in the middle of the school year. I consider that disgraceful. The athletics are top notch, and so if your son is an athlete you might consider St. John's. Overall, I would've given three stars, but after today's disgraceful and ugly firing, I have to give only two. It just reinforces my previous belief that the adminstration is incompetent. Not to mention many of the teachers are absolutely horrible to their students, (i.e. teachers giving kids the finger, calling them names, etc.) My youngest son will not be attending.

As a recent past parent of two children who attended Tower School, starting in the third and fifth…read moregrade, I can only say great things about the education they received! Both of my kids were good students upon entering Tower School, but because Tower has small class sizes they were able to receive lots of extra attention in English, Math, and the Arts. They blossomed as readers, writers, artists, and each discovered a love of technology. Both also played sports and participated in the middle school drama program. It was wonderful to see them develop as young people, and discover what excited them at school. Our whole family made lifelong friends a Tower too. My son and daughter graduated from Tower School and headed to excellent high schools and performed beautifully there as well. Five stars from this family!!

Tower welcomend my son with open arms and it's been that way since the first day. He is encouraged to try new things and different ways to do things. Tower's faculty is absolutely amazing and always goes the extra mile for the students and families there. My son has grown so much as a person these last few years and we are incredibly thankful. Tower is like a second home to us, and my son always wants to go back to school!
