Okay, okay, horrible confession. I pulled into the little Plaza in Derwood to get a McRib, but there was a really long queue at McD's, so I decided to check out one of the other restaurants in the plaza. I've definitely seen Biscotti, but the rather unassuming outside never lured me in. Man, have I been missing out. This place isn't my typical lunch vibe. It's casual, but very much so sit down and the waiter will be with you. I usually get a lunch I can eat while running. This actually made a nice change. Service was fast and friendly, too. I ordered off their lunch special menu, which is a great touch and a fantastic deal (straight talk: I probably would have paid more for that McRib meal). It's got a decent variety, too. I got a chicken in mushroom sauce. Oddly, it was served with a spot of spaghetti in marinara on the side -- it was nice to get up taste their sauce, which was very good. The chicken was cooked well, and the mushroom sauce was great. I couldn't help but get dessert, a canoli. The shell was fresh, not soft, and the cream was just sweet enough with all the cheesy goodness coming through. Definitely going back. read more

This review is hard to write. I saw the rave reviews about the authentic cuisine and knew I had to try it. I went in with such high hopes. It's a cute space with attentive servers. Granted, there were only four occupied tables and two servers, so being attentive wasn't exactly a feat. The first odd thing was that they add sugar to their tomato sauce. My mom can't have added sugar due to a sensitivity so she always asks. It's usually not a problem but she asks anyway. Here, the answer was yes they do add sugar. I then made the mistake of ordering the lobster ravioli special. It...was fine. Just fine. Id never get it again but it was fine. I left my meal regretting not getting what I'd originally planned to try (shrimp and scallops with fettuccine in a light red sauce). What was most telling to me was the fact that my parents didn't comment on their food at all. My mom used to go on and on about the food at my grandparents retirement community and how great it was. Tonight, she said nothing about the meal. My dad hums to himself when he's enjoying his food. He was silent. They're not foodies or tough critics like I am. Their silence told me everything I needed to know. Sadly, I have to disagree with all of the positive reviews on here. If you like the food, that's great. Wide selection of some of the most amazing foods - try the fish! Restaurant is located in a small strip-mall, so there is plenty of parking. The restaurant is pretty small and quiet - which is why we love it so much. My husband has hard time hearing, and a lot of restaurants are noisy and/or music playing too loud in the back.... Biscotti Restaurant is as close to home-cooking as I have ever had in a restaurant. The staff is accommodating and attentive. The prices are remarkably moderate for the quality and abundance on each plate. I have tried their marinara, pistachio cream sauce and light cream sauce -- fantastic. It was time to check this off the restaurants to try list! My husband and I have been daydreaming of another trip to Italy so though a visit to Biscotti might do the trick. We were seated immediately at a table for 2 and were brought a basket of bread and olive spread. We ordered a half a carafe of Chianti and an order of arancini. We wished it was served with a tad more sauce. I ordered the ravioli di funghi with the most delicious pistachio cream sauce. My husband had a veal entree with a side of pasta with marinara. We hadn't been here for a couple years so we decided to see how well the place was faring. We liked it the last time and did so again this time too. Price with generous tip was $100.00. We overordered so most should expect to pay $50-$60 for lunch for two IMO. Food - Our meal consisted of four appetizers, bottled Pelligrino water and two desserts. Leftovers were sufficient for another meal at home for two. Creamy lobster bisque was hot and very "lobstery" with obvious lobster flakes (not chunks). Fried calamari with tomato sauce was hot, crunchy, and chewy. Canelli beans with mushrooms was very filling and so tasty that it was compelling to dip basket bread. Arancini (Sicilian rice balls) are a unique menu item so we ordered them (3 balls) even though we already had plenty to eat. Glad we did. These were a highlight and would definitely order again. Dessert was fancy cannoli (see photo) and a light limoncello tort. We shared the desserts to completion even though we were more than full. Excellent! Generally, menu items are recognizable Italian American fare, not experimental. Nice! BTW - we nearly forgot to take photos so most dishes were patyly eaten before we snapped a few images. Service - We were the only customers at lunch, so service was attentive and prompt. Ambiance - A custom painted wall mural, wine bottles, and classic Italian American restaurant music all contributed to the kind of ambiance expected of a cozy neighborhood Italian joint. This place is a step up from most other Italian places as it sports white tablecloths without the pretense and long waits common at high-end Italian places. So dining here it was delightful. Fantastic food. The Anglotti was perfect and 10/10 would get again as an amazing vegetarian dish. The pollo Panna Cotta tasted great and the portion size made up for the pasta side dish. Which brings me to the pasta that comes as side for the chicken breast. It's spaghetti with tomato sauce and it's unimpressive. I would've preferred a choice of pasta side side or a different sauce. The addition of the bread that they include in takeout orders and the olive tapanade is what changed this from a 4 star to a 5 star review. TL;DR: great for vegetarians and anybody wanting Italian food. Get the vegetable side with the entree. Pollo was perfect but I would probably get the salmon next time. read more

The staff were very nice and kind, but the food was not good. I ordered the RAVIOLI DI FUNGHI and it was not cooked, it was hard and raw, also very salty. It didn't taste fresh nor was it hot. My boyfriend got the FETTUCCINE MARE E TERRA it was decent but was still off and noodles were not cooked right. The portion size was very small for the amount of money we paid. Derwood is lucky, we've got a good string of options in one little bubble these days. If you're looking for Italian tonight, Biscotti is a solid go-to. Our family staples: calamari, agnolotti (delicate, cloud-like spinach filled pasta in a cream sauce that doesn't make you feel heavy afterwards), lasagna, penne a la vodka (comes with nice chunks of salmon, never tastes fishy, it's just right), and their salmon filet. Everything else we've tried is also delicious. While the menu is not huge, there is still good variety and this probably factors into the quality of the dishes across the board. They are accommodating if you do need some alterations, and service is always warm, friendly, and appreciative, really! Because we live nearby, we get carry-out mostly, but it is cute inside if you are looking for a cozy or intimate setting. read more

Thought we would give it one more try.... On a Saturday night during prime time, the restaurant had only 3 tables of people... Staff was nice enough, but food was average at best. Calamari appetizer was ok. Lasagna was small and bland. Chicken parmesian was just ok. Chicken Marsala was tough, dry, chewy and overly salty. (Almost inedible) There was no Marsala wine taste at all! It was brown gravy with mushrooms. Tiramisu was the best thing we ate there. Very sad. We won't be going back again. read more

After reading all the great reviews, we decided to give Biscotti a try. We went for lunch on a Thursday. Upon arrival I spoke to the waiter in Italian, but seems he and the cook are probably Salvadorean as they answered repeatedly in Spanish. We were the only ones in the restaurant at first and it took a little too long to come and take our order. The place is surprisingly nice inside considering its strip mall location. The fried calamari was OK, although not quite crunchy enough for our liking, and the sauce was pretty bland. The house salad was good with amongst other greens, with arugula, although I wished we had asked for the dressing (balsamic vinaigrette) on the side as they had bathed the salad with a little too much dressing, albeit tasty. The soup of the day was lobster bisque which was good, but maybe a little too much sweet sherry for my liking. The spaghetti al ragu di carne (Bolognese) was again, OK - the spaghetti wasn't al dente, but not soggy either. All in all its worth a try but I don't think we'll be going back. read more

On the recommendation of another fabulous Yelper, I found myself at the quaint little Italian restaurant known as Biscotti Ristorante. Actually, I found myself standing outside because the hours are very unique ( check them out before you go). But, once I got in - I decided to indulge in a grab and go of one of my favorite Italian classics: Penne Alla Vodka. That's right; I like the sauce in my sauce. Man did that baby perfume my car on the way home. I got home to find a large portion of pasta with what looked to be salmon chunks. I don't know if I've ever seen salmon prepared that way, but after one bite, I was not complaining. The salmon was tender flaky and perfectly cooked. The sauce was rich and the whole balance of the dish was Italian perfection. I wouldn't hesitate a second to go back to that unassuming strip mall. I guarantee you- if it were not for that review on Yelp, I would not have eaten there. It's one of those classic, " Don't judge a book by it's cover" moments. Maybe it was an off night? Or why do people come back here? Are they paid to review? We had reservations, which was good as the place is small. Two servers only and both looked stressed out? Did get a table in corner, but for heaven's sake, it's dark in here, hard to read. Alas, cold bread and some black paste tossed on the table, paste tasted of olive. Then server sauntered over to fill water glasses. Then another sever took drink order, absolutely no one said hello... Now, ten mins later, we order. Calamari not over cooked and well flavored, nothing spectacular. Cesar salad average. Chicken piccata was cooked and side of pasta had marinara on it, which is fine, but not listed on menu that way. Usually pasta is same sauce as dish, right? Gnocchi with ricotta also okay, same marinara sauce as with calamari. Nobody checked on us and thus after a long wait to clear our plates, we decided to forgo coffee and dessert, maybe Biscotti makes a good Biscotti? Don't know, didn't want to wait long enough to find out... sad. $200 dollars later and we left this very small space and no one even looked in our direction to say goodbye or thanks. This was my birthday dinner and it fell so flat. Not a cheap place to be so lackluster. Been a couple of years since we dined here and now I remember why! Food 5 service -5. 10 minutes for an iced tea that was worse than mop water. An hour in, the server asked if we were ready for the check! For what? The mop water- we had not even been served!! 2 plates of food over $20 and never once were the water or tea refilled. I was VERY skeptical coming into an italian restaurant located in a strip mall. I am 100% italian and both of my grandmothers can COOK. I love to eat and I must say that I was FLOORED. We started off with the Calamari and I must say that I have NEVER had calamari this LIGHT and CRISPY! We also had the caprese bruschetta which wasn't bad however I was much more impressed with the Calamari. They also brought bread with an absolutely delicious Olive Tapenade!! For the main course I had the Cappesante and... honestly it was some of the best Italian food I've had in a LONG time (don't tell my mom or a frying pan is getting thrown at me!). I couldn't believe the amount of FLAVOR that they packed into these scallops!! They were perfectly cooked with a beautiful caramelization on the edges that gave them the perfect crunch. The lemon butter sauce with capers was heavenly, and the Pappardelle pasta was the perfect complement to the dish! I couldn't have been more pleased!!! It was unbelievable. MY girlfriend had the POLLO LIMONE which was basically the same dish as mine except with incredibly moist chicken- very delicious! Another friend had the PENNE Pasta with Goat's Cheese and it was a very delicious and unique combination. If our meal ended here, they would receive 5 stars. Bar none-the food was unbelievable... then we had to get dessert. I wish I didn't, we ordered the Tiramisu. It was average. Nothing special. After a truly amazing meal I was expecting an epic finish. This Tiramisu barely tasted of anything, much less that beautiful liqueur. I posted a picture of our Tiramisu and it was beautiful. I just wish I had more "punch" to me it way too bland. All in all it was an incredible night of exploring the wonders of italian food. I highly recommend this amazing restaurant, just try something else on the dessert menu. Some of our favorites: - Biscotti Salad: fresh with a really good balsamic vinaigrette - Spaghetti with meatballs: my daughter loves this dish and orders it every time. If we ever have Italian outside of the area, she will order the standard and say 'good but not as good as Biscotti's'. - Penne Alla Vodka: succulent chunks of salmon with spinach, tomatoes, creamy vodka over tender penne pasta. When we get there it's a very cozy place and you will never think this small cozy hidden treasure in this shopping center would be so heavenly. We Oder CROSTINI alla CHECCA Focaccia bread with fresh mozzarella chopped tomatoes, basil and virgin oil. For appetizer. The season in this plate was so amazing!!! The server brought the bread with the olive oil and this black thing I forgot what it was called but mixed that with Parmesan cheese very good!!! The bread was so soft and fluffy inside. I Oder TORTELLINI Di CARNE Meat tortellini with Prosciutto and green peas in a light cream sauce. This plate was mouthwatering very creamy and yummy they had piece if ham I believe and the seasoning on the ham was so good I couldn't believe such a small piece had so much flavor. My hubby had LASAGNA della CASA Homemade meat lasagna with meat sauce. This plate was so full of flavor I loved it and my husband loved it and he is very picky with his lasagna. But I agreed this was some great lasagna we ever try. Our kids had SPAGHETTI MEAT BALLS Spaghetti with marinara sauce and homemade meat balls. My kids loved the food. I tried it and it was good the sauce and the meat balls were very delicious. Last but not least we had a TIRAMISU Our homemade sponge cake soaked in espresso made with mascarpone raisings. This was a taste of heaven this desert won me over it was so soft and so amazing!!! Now the service was very good our waiter was very polite attentive. The owner came out to greet us (he is the chef) i had to thank him for the amazing food we just devour and he was very respectful and polite. My experience was amazing so was my family and we recommend this place it's very casual and very lovely to go on a date or bring your kids. The food didn't disappoint at all!! Now that I've discovered this little gem of an Italian restaurant hidden in a strip mall that's under construction in Derwood, I learned that it's closing - after nine years - on August 24 because of leasing issues. The service and food were very good. We had the calamari fritti, eggplant parmigiana, spaghetti Bolognese, and salmone guarnito. The desserts that we enjoyed, tiramisu and budino di pane were legit. Many who were leaving inquired when and where they will re-open. Hopefully they'll find a place soon. It's pretty apparent that Biscotti's is loved by the locals. 4.5 stars! read more

They got rid of the early bird dinner which was the main reason to go here. Without that deal, the food is really overpriced.

I went with a couple friends and we had the Penne alla Vodka, Bucatini al Ragu di Carne, the Gnocchi di Ricotta, and the Tiramisu. The vodka sauce of the penne was lighter than expected but the flavors were otherwise good. The Bucatini had a very solid, satisfying, and meaty flavor and we agreed it was the best of the three. The Gnocchi was wonderful except I found the sauce too acidic and my friends found it too creamy. I don't think they let the tiramisu sit long enough for the rich flavors to diffuse throughout the dish, it was more creamy than anything else but my friends thought it was pretty good. Overall a better than decent Italian restaurant in flavor but a little expensive for what you get. I'd give a 3.5 if possible. Side note: The olive spread is excellent; it's a pity the bread wasn't warm. read more

My boyfriend decided to make reservations for this restaurant after seeing the rave reviews on yelp. A passerby from a distance probably wouldn't give this place a second look since it's located in a strip mall, but this is a prime example of how looks can be deceiving! The servers were friendly and attentive, and I found the atmosphere I be very homey, warm, and inviting. They served us bread and olive tapenade while we waited for our orders. The food alone easily gets a 5/5. I ate the Agnolotti Rosa slowly because I wanted to savor each and every bite! It's rich aurora sauce really complimented the spinach ravioli. I also stole a bite of my boyfriend's Penne alla Vodka and it sent my taste buds singing. We finished dinner off with some great tiramisu. Hands down the best Italian food I've ever had. Oh my goodness. I have recently moved to the area, and this restaurant is right near my house. I have ordered food from them for pick up several times and I have eaten in house at least one time. Everything I have tried here has been incredible. Please eat here! Support a wonderful local restaurant with a delicious menu. Not a bad place for a date, or a nice family meal.
