I don't know if the importance of one using you alls services matter to your drivers or not but you all will lose alot of services for the bad services and also with Noone being of concern or trying to fix the problem I called a cab a few days ago he canceled cause he didn't know where he was going he called back and said he would turn around he did I was standing outside where I informed him I was he came up and pulled right off I called the business back the person on the phone was so rude I just hung up.called a cab today driver called ill be to u in 15 minutes 15 minutes or more passed so I call driver and said did u mean a hour rather than 15 min ohhhhh I'm too far out I put it in for someone else to pick u up but guess what Noone showed up or called back yellow cab is definitely the worst if you have a emergency please don't use them call someone else I'm so dissatisfied read more

Worst cab company I've ever used. Booked a 0645 pick up at 9pm the night before. When I finally canceled the rid at 0730 they were still "trying to find a driver". Worst company ever. Claimed it was because 2 drivers called in sick. One person said "they had cabs available just not near me and they only send the closest one." When I told them to send anyone they had available they basically refused to send anyone to pick me up. I was using them as a ride to work because my car is in the shop. Had to call off because of them. Yellow cab just cost me about $300 dollars. Walk, hitchhike, rollerskate, whatever it takes but NEVER call yellow cab in Birmingham Alabama. Completely worthless. Called for a cab at 3:20, and an hour later called again (the automatic voice said would be there shortly.) Called again at 5:10, talked to a live person they said perhaps another hour, 6:45 and still a no show, by then too late to get to where I wanted to go in the first place. I'm happy to recognize that the last 5-6 times service as been professional, punctual, and the drivers all courteous. This review is a look at the problem with Birmingham, Al transportation. Landed at the Birmingham airport late night/early morning. No ride share options. Called Yellow cab no answer. I must say that one guy in a Yellow cab just happened to show up. Was looking for anyone needing a ride. 3 people, me being on of them got in. Only wanted cash for rides. Would only take credit cards for long transportation. The cab was dirty, no window controls in the back, not broken but missing?? Broken door handles. I did make it to my location but if I had ANY other choice I would not use them. This is why no one wants to use cabs. read more

Yellow Cab fills a very necessary void in our town, so I'm very grateful for that. I just wish they'd fix a few things. My biggest qualm over the years has been their estimated wait times. No matter how long it's actually going to be, they always say 5-20 minutes. Plenty of time they are right, but sometimes it's much longer. I just wish this would be more accurate. I have one horror story of the cab not coming after four hours, but I'll spare you. Needless to say, the operator continued to tell me "5-20 minutes" during the entire four hours. Last night really took the cake. After seeing a concert at Bottletree, I called for a Yellow Cab. Like normal, I was told it would be 5 to 20 minutes. Good news, cab 1020 showed up in about ten minutes. Once inside, the driver asked us where we were headed and I gave him the address. He seemed to know what area of town we were from. To make small talk, I asked if he was from Birmingham and he gave a quick, broad answer. I could tell his answer was "yes" from his snappy reply. I got the point that he didn't want to chat. No biggie... I totally understood. As we pulled out, he turned left (as if it were a one way street) into the far left lane. I noticed it in shock, but waited for his next move. After two blocks, he noticed his error and jerked the wheel to the right. Pretty bizarre. A few blocks later we ran into a detour. He acted bewildered, but the rest of us saw that the clear answer was to take a right turn. I felt at this point that he was either trying to run up the meter, was unfamiliar with the town (even though he had stated he was from Birmingham), or had stopped by a bar on his break. Once home, he sat in silence as we gathered our things. I asked "should I run my card," alluding to the swiper facing the back seat. He responded, "you should follow directions!" At this point I looked at the swiper and saw that it was asking me to swipe. How did he know I wasn't considering paying with cash? Even when moderately drinking, I feel like the best decision is to take a cab. Sadly, I always have to think twice before calling Yellow Cab. read more

I was in Birmingham for business meetings and needed a lift to the airport from my hotel. The cab arrived right on time and the driver was very friendly when he drove me to the airport. He accidentally missed a turn and corrected the meter fare to correct his mistake and not overcharge me. The cab accepted a credit card payment which is always something I have to argue for back in Philadelphia. However worst of all I made the dreaded mistake of leaving my cell phone in the cab. I didn't realize my phone was missing until after I already boarded my plane. I called Yellow Cab when I got back home in Philadelphia and was shocked to hear the phone was turned in. Three days later the cell phone was back in my apartment in Philadelphia. I cannot thank Yellow Cab enough for the great service and southern hospitality. If I am ever back in Birmingham I will be sure to use this cab company again! read more

Horrible. Do yourself a favor and call another company. I used them three times. The first two times, even though I scheduled way in advance using their app, they were late 10-15 minutes each time. Tonight I called them after a movie at the Summit Shopping center; a well known place. Initially, dispatch told me 20 minutes but after 25 a driver called me to ask where I was exactly. He determined that he was too far away so they dispatched another who came another 20 minutes later. I hear the companies are fighting Uber's plan to expand here and I can see why. Even my Birmingham friends tell me taxis here are horrible. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about Yellow Cab 205-222-2222 just to be clear there are others that are not the same! I have personally had great experience with this cab service in Birmingham AL ! They can always be depended upon! Then this past weekend my best friend lost his new iPhone! We tracked everything and then decided it must have been left in the cab! Needless to say everyone just chalked it up to lost, stolen, resold, etc,etc, but my gut told me that it was turned in by one of there drivers! I just felt that the great experiences I'd had, it would've been there! I called lost and found on Monday morning the young lady I spoke with said please call back after 1:00 PM THEN she would know if it was turned in over the weekend! Birmingham, AL ( very detailed but "must read") I called a cab to get to work this morning. Cab #10056 arrived. (Description- Blk-Male wrapped dreads, said from New Orleans w/ New Orleans accent). I was out my door in less than 5 minutes. Before getting in the cab he had already started the meter, it was already about .50 more than it should have been. I let it slide as I was more focused getting to work. A key thing when you enter a cab is "Look at the meter"! There are a few dishonest cab drivers. Not only that, he flew like a bat out of hell with road rage, switching in and out lanes as other cars blew at him. When at a red light the cab driver looked over at the other driver that he cut in front of and said a few chose words about him to me and the other driver looked back at him with anger. At that moment could have been a bad altercation with me in the car at no fault of mine, simply because of some ill tempered cab driver. When I got to my destination. I had to go into the lobby ATM. I was in and out quickly within "3 mins max". Before going into the ATM, the meter read $18.00 but when I came out it was at $19.25??? I asked the cab driver even before going into the ATM if he had $2 change because I knew ATM gives only $20's but he said nothing. When I came back to the car I asked the driver again if he had $2 change. He said well the meter says $19.25. I said how is that when I step away and back within 3 mins??? Some drivers know how to hack and tamper with the meter and he is one of them!!! I said I will still need my change and I need to get to work. He said well I can take you to the store to get change. I said I don't have time for that. Then he says well you should have caught a cab earlier in which is bullshit because I called the cab in well enough time and he wasted my time by making things complicated! So instead of arguing I saw two men about to cross the street and I asked if they had any change for the $20 and one reached and gave me a few quarters. The cab driver came at me and started cursing me. I said I was asking for change and they only had a few quarters. He said selfishly "well then you have your .75 cents. It pissed me so I threw the $20 at him because obviously he wanted the full $20. To over charge is his game!!! My normal commute there with previous cab drivers was usually $16-$17. He was more concern of making more money than what he deserved. He was rude mouth, unclean, unprofessional and price gouge by tampering with the meter. He said he would report me to never be picked up again when I was only trying to pay fairly and nothing else. I immediately reported him to yellow cab. I never ever wish to ride with him again or anyone like him. I'm sure with "no doubt" he has been a problem to other passengers as well. He is dangerous and ready to pop off at any time with any body! Please be aware of your cab driver! Do not ride if you see things you aren't right or make you uncomfortable. Get out! ***Please know that they only get 4 stars instead of 5 cause nothing or anything is perfect; there is always room for improvement and I never give even the best of anything a full five stars.... I have never, not ever, had one bad experience with yellow cab and ive used them at least 20-25 times, both for short drives and longer drives, anywhere from 1 mile to 45 miles from Birmingham, center point, hayden, and even Oneonta..... could be that in my first experience, the man went above and beyond his duty for a young drunk girl going a pretty long distance from the bars of Birmingham to home many miles out in the sticks, where internet could not drive the card machine....so he walked away with no quarrel even though due an $80 fare....he gave his name to the kind gentleman who had called me the cab (after I tried to drive and busted 2 tires) in the hopes I would pay the fare when I was more "capable" we should say..... in the end I was so grateful to have gotten that ride, so damn grateful something happened to those tires instead of another innocent driver, and really appreciated the drivers patience when I couldn't pay..... I gave him a really really nice tip for putting up with all that, for being there to potentially save my life and maybe others as well, for delivering me safe at home..... maybe they keep tabs on things like that, tips and stuff, cause in honor of that ride I always tip them more than needed, and much more im sure they expect, even for the shortest rides. they are doing me a service I need, does not matter that they are "working for me"..... I don't see it as such...... I see it as me needing a ride, they provide it for money.....heck, my uncle does me that way any time I need a ride as well.... I cant account for the bad experiences others have had, don't mean to dismiss their issues..... but I hope they assess their attitude, their own first impressions they give others as well......as much as others have had late cabs, not show up etc, I have never not had one show up, as a matter of fact they seem to arrive a lil too early for my preference at times, but that is what it is....... anyway, I don't discount anyone elses experience at, but theirs have not been mine at all....and I have never wrote either a good or bad review for anything else even 1/4th as long as this one..... but I felt like in honor of that first experience when they got me home far away and temporarily free and how easy the rest of my rides have been, I owed them my defense........ I was very, very dissatisfied with the service that I received from Yellow Cab. The cab was scheduled the day before to pick me up at 7:15 a.m. I waited outside in the cold for about 10 minutes and no cab showed up. I then went inside to warm up and call to see where the cab was. I was told he was about 10 minutes away. So I went back outside to wait for him, he finally showed up after about 15 minutes. The driver said my name after I got in his vehicle which was the incorrect way to say it, so I corrected him {he proceeds to still call me the incorrect name like I had not said anything} Which is rude, rude, rude! Upon getting into the cab, I noticed the driver reeked of alcohol. PLUS THE DRIVER HAD ALREADY STARTED THE METER WHEN I SAT DOWN. IT WAS ALREADY ONN $3.00 and the driver reeked of alcohol, either he had been drinking the night before or he was drinking his breakfast. Geesh! THE DRIVER DROVE LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL. Almost slamming into the back of a truck. I will never ,ever, ever use Yellow cab again! If they don't get their act together Uber is going to run them out of business. So as much as I have dogged YC (deservedly so IMO) in the past, I have to right this review. I recently moved back to Bham after being away for a couple of years and used YC for the first time this morning. Admittedly I only did so because it was my only option to airport at 4am. My experience was nothing short of superb. I booked in advance using app and apprehensive about whether taxi would show up and how I was going to have to scramble to make my flight. Boy was I wrong. The app alerted me when taxi was dispatched, and again when taxi arrived. Driver was 5 minutes early, extremely courteous and got me to the airport with ease. I was able to use a credit card (huge for business traveler that has to expense everything) without any groaning from the driver. Simply used the built in credit card swiper in the back and I was on my way! Extremely impressed about the vast improvement I saw with YC. [EDITED]: as soon as I heap praise on YC, back to old shenanigans. Pre ordered taxi for this morning to catch flight. Cab was "assigned" to me but didn't show up, no call and never made any progress towards my location according to YC's Uber-like tracker. Had to cancel and order Uber that was prompt like always so still made my flight despite taxi gaffe. Gave YC a chance again, was initially impressed but I'm done. Strictly Uber for me from now on. read more

Yellow can is the worst! My husband and I were out in Birmingham for his birthday. We went to the Blue Monkey for drinks. When we were ready to leave my husband asked the bar tender to call us a cab. He called Yellow cab. They said they would be there between 5-20 minutes so we went outside to wait. After 45 minutes of waiting and no cab, my husband called and again asked for a cab. They told us 5-20 minutes. After thirty minutes and still no cab, we finally called a different cab company who was there in 5 minutes. After talking with several people, we found out that this is very common for yellow cab. If they couldn't do it, they should have just told us so we didn't have to sit outside waiting all that time. Rude is an understatement. Also, on 4 (four) different occasions they gave me one price over the phone (there is a minimum for my suburb) which was $15. Then each four times when the taxi cab would show up.. the driver would say the minimum was $40! Then when I tell them that their switchboard operator told me it was $15 they would feign miscommunication and then INSIST that it was $40 and pull over on the side of the road! They did this ALL FOUR TIMES. It is part of their choreography. I only needed to go up the street four blocks... so I would have only had to pay the minimum plus tip. Also, the switchboard operators seem to be in on it as well. When I insisted they call the switchboard to straighten it out, EACH FOUR TIMES the switchboard person feigned a misunderstanding and even suggest that I was in a different zip code! I've had to rely on Yellow Cab many time in Birmingham (as there is no Uber - a much better, more organized, and more reliable company). If you're leaving a bar in Lakeview, the cabs are typically lined up ready to take people home. This has been fine except for a few incident where the driver has seemed high (and the cab wreaked of weed). If you need a cab to get you elsewhere, you might as well start walking. I was meeting friends for a birthday at a bar downtown and was told 5-20 minutes (around 10PM). 3 hours later I have up and went to sleep. At 4 AM (SIX HOURS LATER) I was woken up to several calls that a cab was there. What a joke. If you're going to Bourbon Street karaoke bar, forget about getting a cab to pick you up. I've waited 3 hours there as well. Friends have been there until 3AM. You might think this is just a late night busy issue, but nope. I needed a cab to get to the airport and made arrangements for a pick up the day before. Knowing that the cab could be late, I built in extra time. The cab didn't show up. I waited until the last moment, calling to see ETA and the dispatcher didn't have a clue. I had to drive myself and pay for parking. As far as customer service goes, it truly is terrible. You can wait out your 5-20 minutes and call for a status check. Often the person on the other end will yell at you or simply hang up. This is a terrible, terrible business and it is pitiful in a city the size of Birmingham there is not a better method for transportation. read more

With my car in the shop over a holiday weekend, I was depending on Yellow Cab to get me to work on time. I called a couple hours in advance to schedule a pick-up, but the cab never showed. I even called back their dispatcher to double check that they had the right address, which they did, and the lady I spoke with said they dispatched a vehicle, but after 2+ hours of waiting past my pickup time I had to give up on them as a no-show. Not happy at all. If they didn't have enough drivers to cover all of their calls they should just say so!! read more

No one had picked up my ticket and operator could not tell me when or if it would get picked up. Only threatened me by asking if I would like to cancel my ride. The worst. Called night before and scheduled a cab for 7am. Called at 7am day of, they had a "mix up" and no one had been dispatched. Told it would be 20 minutes. At 720 dispatch said he was five minutes away. At 730 was told driver was not answering phone. At 745 was told no driver on the way! They subcontract "regions" to independent drivers who have no accountability and may or may not show up. Worse, Yellow Cab dispatch took no responsibility and never called me to say I should get a back up plan despite telling them over and over my flight departed at 820. Thanks to one kind employee at the hotel who took me in their personal car I made it by 3 mins as they closed the door to my plane. If all they are doing at yellow cab is subcontracting drivers, you are better off using Uber! They are way more reliable and timely anyway. Lesson learned. read more

Last night a group of my friends and I took yellow cab from Vestavia Hills to the Lakeview area downtown. That first taxi ride was just fine. The drive was on time and friendly. We got to our destination safely. However, the ride back to my home was NOT acceptable. The drive was not totally at fault, but did NOT handle the situation well. The entire ride from downtown back to my house in Vestavia Hills I had to tell the driver step by step directions!!! What the HELL am I paying you for other than safe driving and knowing how to get from A to B. He had a GPS!!! As we pull up to my driveway, one of friend's gets sick and vomits on herself. She did vomit on the inside of the taxi cab car door, but NOT on the upholstery. So, I tell everyone to get out of the car. I tell the driver that I will clean up the mess with bleach and it will only take me a minute. He states that there is a charge of $50 for vomit on a door!!! The cab fare was only $20!!!! Now, I know its disgusting and I don't disagree with that. But, I offered to clean it up and I would have done a great job. Plus he wouldn't have had to drive around town with that smell. So, I tell him "Sir I WILL NOT pay that. I also think its ridiculous that I just had to give you directions for an entire 20 minute car ride." He then says well I am going to call 911. And I am thinking why in the hell are you calling 911??? He keeps threatening and saying that he will file a report. At this point I am so annoyed, tired, and grossed out by the vomit that I just hand him the money with NO TIP. I just wanted to get my friend cleaned up and inside the house with out causing a ruckus in my neighborhood. I WILL NEVER USE THIS SERVICE EVER AGAIN AND I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. Terrible! They never showed up! We precalled for a pick up to the airport. When they still hasn't showed up 5 minutes after the requested time we called and they said they were on their way. 10 minutes after that they were apparently only few more minutes away. They never showed up and by 20minutes late we had to drive ourselves, pay for 5 days for airport parking and nearly missed our flight! Completely undependable. Find another service to use. Even a few extra dollars is worth not spending 150$ to change your flight. read more

I filled out the online request at 8am to have a cab at 11am. After an email confirmation, I get a call at 10-till 11am from a driver that their GPS couldnt find the address. I give directions. At 10-after 11am, I call the dispatch. Apparently the driver just gave up and went on another call. Dispatch informed me that it would take 10mins to contact a driver and another ??? amount of time for the driver to get here. I would not recommend this taxi service. read more

I started using the Yellow Cab for Hoover-Pelham area after my car broke down, and I couldn't get it fixed right away. My experience this far has been sub par. I normally wait anywhere from 5-10 minutes for a dispatch, and I realize people other than me use the cab for transportation. I have waited 30 minutes or more on a cab recently, only to not have the driver show up due to some mix-up supposedly. Then the cab didn't show, so I ended up waiting over an hour in all on another cab to get back home. Most of the drivers I've encountered are non-chalant, and try to use deceptive tactics to get more money out of you (i.e use longer routes, drive slow as heck, excessive talking and not paying attention to the road/turns etc.). I called to report one guy because all he seemed to do was make excuses for their lousy service, took his time even when I asked him to get me home, and he basically ignored my requests. Whoever takes complaints at the dispatch office won't do anything either, I've yet to receive an apology. Then you have the independent drivers who give you their card, and say call/text for a ride anytime. Don't waste your time, your call/text will go unnoticed, and all you will get is a piss poor excuse. All I know is that I will be limiting my rides with Yellow Cab Hoover-Alabama in the future.
