My daughter needed a car fast.. Her mom and I live out of state. There was no way we could be there to go through the process of looking for vehicles, test-driving them, and making an educated decision on which one to invest in. My daughter's mom found a car on the Birmingham Auto Auction website. To make a long story short, there were a couple of mechanical issues found less than two weeks after the purchase. I was upset beyond words. I was ready to fly down and have a word with this company. However, I was able to speak directly to Chris Thomas the sales manager. Let's just say Chris was very professional, very gracious, and very understanding of my concern as the father of a young lady who was going through this car buying process by herself for the very first time. Chris insisted that my daughter and I call him personally during the time we were trying to ascertain what was ACTUALLY wrong with the vehicle. Chris also insisted that my daughter bring the car back to him personally so he could look over the vehicle because he did not want us to pay for something (from a well-known transmission shop) that we did not need to. Once my daughter brought the car in, Chris was overly helpful and brought me great comfort in knowing that someone besides her father was looking out for her best interest and not just trying to make a few bucks. Chris ended up speaking to me over the phone and explained, in great detail, what was working with the vehicle and how we could fix and literally save thousands of doallrs. Look, when you buy a used car from ANY shop, dealership, or individual, you are taking a chance, as it could break on you the next day, the next week, or last for 2-3 years. In other words, you know what you are getting into. And while that doesn't mean a company should take advantage of people and sell them a POS vehicle, it does mean you have to do your own due diligence. WE did not, before buying the vehicle, but this is exactly why I am writing this review because if it weren't for Chris and his desire to have and keep a happy customer, we would've been out another $3,000 plus. Now, this doesn't mean the car won't break down tomorrow, but I am confident that Chris will do whatever it takes to help us- THAT is worth more than the price of the vehicle in y book. Criminally fraudulent, bought a car there and should have filed a law suit. in my experience they are clearing out the car codes by draining the batteries and then jumping the cars off. No codes will show when you do this. The abs was out in the car I bought. I told these folks I was driving a long distance in the car and they just smiled and said thanks. I'm lucky no one was hurt. I've now seen several other reviews that report the same thing- codes cleared by draining the batteries, major issues afterwards. Y'all report this to the attorney general. read more

Be aware of what BAA does not tell you. The vehicle was right, the price was right, the transaction was great. Then when registering the vehicle, I was informed that there were almost $200 in back taxes past due. The sales manager at BAA clearly let me know that BAA is not responsible for those taxes, nor are the responsible to even inform me that I would be responsible for any unpaid back taxes. The DMV let me know that "any reputable dealer will reimburse these taxes" if I paid them during registration. I shared this with the sales manager at BAA, and was met with silence. Unfortunately, that sufficed as admission they are not a reputable dealer. I've shared with the sales manager that I'm glad to work with the dealer to resolve this situation. First off, the car I bought from Greg Leight had a leaky radiator (that no one mentioned when I asked about things that may need work) that caused the car to overheat before I could even drive it home. And the blow motor went out shorty after . THEN to top it off, Katy Wheeler (the finance manager) put the completely wrong bank as the leinholder. Which is a huge mess to fix, not to mention it's a mistake you have to fix on your own! And when you try to contact them, you get absolutely no answer. BAA is a scam, beware. We bought a 2014 Nissan Sentra with 115k on the odometer for around $8k after tax, title and fees. This was my sons first car, saved up for it himself. We had the car for two weeks before the transmission took a crap. New transmission is $5k with labor. Not worth it and a near total loss for us. If you are interested in one of their cars, take it to a mechanic. All BAA does is make it look pretty and mechanically OK to drive it off the lot. You've been warned and good luck. read more

DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!! First off I'd like to say that Andrew was helpful and nice but needs more knowledge on his cars only reason I say that is because I came yesterday and we had it set up to test drive a vehicle the next day (today) I go back to test it this morning and I start driving it and ask how many miles were on it and he didn't know. Felt bad for him to cause any car I went to had issues he had NO CLUE about. Chris the "Manager" was very disrespectful, rude and told me it was NORMAL and ok for my 9yr old to sit in a seat that had mold all over it. WOW! This place is a junkyard. Out of 15 if not more cars I saw 90% of them had visible MOLD all over the seats and obvious moldy stench u can't deny but was told they all get detailed before being put out to be looked at (Apparently not) one of the cars I was considering I opened the trunk to the matt having green mold all over it and underneath where the spare tire was it was almost full of just water that had been there for who knows how long and when I went to shut the truck it was barely hanging on and then wouldn't shut at all. Even Andrew (the sales rep) had a difficult time, radios were out, OH one of the cars I barely touched the rear view mirror and it was hanging on by a cord and underneath it the glass was conveniently missing, another car my son opened the door and almost puked because it smelled like an animal had died in there even AGAIN Andrew said OH MY GOD that's horrible! 3 of the cars I sat in wouldn't crank either lol. Keep in mind this whole time I have been cool bout it and tried to stay positive said I'm sorry I have some other vehicles I need to go see and Andrew drive us back to the office and said for us to wait a min he wanted to check if they had anything else coming in. (Really not wanting to see it cause at this point this place is just disgusting but he was nice so I waited) to them have Mr. Chris "manager" come over and basically try to "educate" me ( when I hadn't complained or made a fuss) on how ANY used car I get is going to be MOLDY, have missing parts, smell like dead rodents, glass cracks in the windshields, all while being a condescending prick calling me sweetheart and talking down to me. Now I don't know where he was trained or how he even has a job but I will GLADLY take my cash money somewhere besides a JUNKYARD! read more

The other review is absolutely correct. They are a junk yard. I got a Nissan from there and not even a month later the power steering had to be replaced, two hose adding up to $500 had to be replaced after my engine almost burned up, and now the whole front end including breaks and the boots has to be replaced. first of all, since I first arrived, everyone was very, very friendly and inviting. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the salesmen are very helpful. The lady at the front desk made it a point to memorize my name (I visited several times before making my purchase, but she memorized it after the second visit) and our salesman was Van. one thing we really appreciated was how organized the lot was and just HOW MANY options there were. when comparing it to the other several lots I visited within a month in the birmingham area, this was by far my favorite. when buying a used car, of course you have to be very very thorough and I'm glad that I could take my time making a decision. This place (like all used car lots) can definitely have unreliable cars, but this is because many people get rid of their cars when they're in a condition that they can't afford to repair/don't want to deal with anymore. The difference is that the people working here were honest about known issues the cars had, and allowed you plenty of time and a level of privacy with the cars to thoroughly check them out. After driving it around the lot for a few days, we asked Van if we could schedule a test drive on the interstate and he was very helpful! this is the best place I personally would suggest to a family member or friend in need of a car. Van was truthful, didn't pressure us at all to make a decision, and went above and beyond. this meant so much to us because we'd had a bad experience elsewhere : In the same stretch of time we were visiting Birmingham Auto Auction, we visited a different used car dealer. At this other place, we actually checked the codes on one of his cars (we were ready to make a decision on this car) and there was a cylinder misfire that he actually already knew about and didn't disclose. We asked them about it (it was shaking on the interstate and highways at just 50mph), and they tried to hide that they knew about it. We tried hinting at what was wrong without telling them we knew for sure, just to see if they'd be honest. They instead insisted on it being something unrelated to the engine/cylinders (assuming we knew very little bout cars) and said they'd fix it. And of course, the codes came up without the check engine light being on at all, so there is a chance they turned this off. I was so happy we came back to BAA because I got a great, dependable car and great memories of getting it! you'll have a good experience if you take your time, ask as many questions as possible, do your own research, understand the car's common issues/recalls, and prepare/examine as much as you can. we were even given history on the car after asking for it to look through- long before making a final decision. My wife and I recently bought a car here. First, you have to know what you are getting for the price. This place is not a car dealership and most cars have an issue or are older models but for the value you can't beat it. The salesman was honest, upfront and very informative and helpful about every vehicle we asked about. Second, everyone in the business office was very helpful and polite. I felt they went above and beyond to help us get into the car we wanted. Third, this place is very unique in the way they conduct business, the freedom to wander around and no pressure and they are organized.
