Heidelberg Marriott Hotel, Heidelberg, Germany…read more The Heidelberg Marriott Hotel is located on the riverbank of Heidelberg, just west of the city center. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Eric checked me in quickly and thanked me for being a Marriott Elite member. He took the time to offer me a few different upgrades. In the end I chose the King room, balcony with river view. I rarely have a vehicle, but this time I did have a rental car. Parking is 25 Euro per day in their underground, covered garage. The room was screaming for renovation. The often-used wood areas of the furnishings were all worn down. The green carpet - well, I do not think I need to say anything more about that! The bed was hard as a rock, but the sheets were of good cotton quality as were the feather pillows. Without those quality sheets, this bed would have been very uncomfortable, as I prefer a softer bed. The bathroom was dark, and the wall tile reminded me of being at grandma's house! Aside from the decorative items, the room was very clean. The balcony was absolutely wonderful as the day I visited the weather was beautiful. I spent a few hours sitting on that balcony getting some work done while enjoying the view of the river. This property has a club level lounge for elite members. It was open until 2300 daily and had an evening reception with wine and beer. The lounge also had a large outdoor deck, also with great views of the river. The lounge attendant was very attentive. The food offerings were a bit bland, but the wine was good! This property has a very nice restaurant in the lobby and an indoor pool is also available. This property really tries hard with the hotel it has. If the rooms were updated, I could easily give this property a 5-star rating. For now, I will be rating this hotel with 4 stars.

The room we had overlooked a river. Front desk staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful (providing a map and some recommendations). The lobby lounge area was cozy and beautifully decorated for Christmas. Our room did have two twin beds that were actually separated from each other, sometimes hard to find in Europe. The room itself was not particularly spacious, especially the bathroom (which was about the size of a cruise ship bathroom). The bed was firm, but reasonably comfortable. The pillow was a large European style pillow, but needed a bit more firmness for neck support. The hotel does have an elevator, but it only goes up to the third floor. If your room is on the fourth floor, as ours was, you have to go up a final set of steps to your floor (but the front desk did ask us if we needed assistance with that). The hotel appeared to have an associated restaurant next to it, but we did not eat there to comment. The location and friendly staff definitely take the edges off the negatives. For those traveling by train, there is not close proximity to the station (so you'd need a taxi to the hotel). However, the hotels I stayed at in Germany that were close to the main train stations ended up being in much more shady neighborhoods--so lack of proximity may be one reason why the area felt so much safer for this hotel.

It had air conditioning which was nice on a warm day. Once your car was parked you can walk to everywhere. It's an old building updated nicely. The only downside is no parking but if you use the parking place they suggest then you do get a discount. Be prepared if you have a large vehicle trying to find a place. The parking spots are very small. I knew this in advance. The views, the people , the bed and the location makes it worth staying. I will be back.

Marriott was not willing to reschedule the remainder of my 6 days or refund. For the purpose of business, I need hotels that will adapt to changes. This Marriott does not seem to be accommodating for business needs and changes. Example: I booked for 11 days to complete an install. The instrument still had not been delivered by the 5th day. I was requested to reschedule and return a week later. Marriott wants to charge my 11 days that I hadn't fully used; even though I would return for possibly an additional 5 or 6 days depending. Now Marriott has now lost a travel buddy for life. IHG or any non Marriott branded property, I will now be booking with you. Otherwise the hotel was decent, but not close to the part of town one would visit. Actually pretty boring there and anything within a 20 minute walk. You will want to stay in old town of Heidelberg Germany. It will save you a ton on taxi fairs going to restaurant's and bars. If your plans change midstream, make sure you don't book with Expedia or similar sites. As well, I lost faith in Hotels.com as now I fear booking anything past one night stays. Neither Hotels.com or Marriott will not accommodate my business or changing needs.

Walking in felt like stepping back in time. I doubt much has changed about this place in decades, and that's entirely a compliment. We were seated near a window and the ambiance was everything you'd want, cozy, warm, and genuinely inviting. I loved the feel of it. Our server was very kind. Her English was limited, but she was gracious and patient as I attempted to speak German, and was generous enough to tell me I did well. It added to the charm of the whole experience. Now, the food. The potatoes that came with the schnitzel were the best German potatoes I've ever had. The schnitzel itself was delicious, exactly what you'd hope for. The cheese spaetzle was a highlight as well, rich and satisfying. Plan on sharing it. The one miss was the pizza my sister-in-law ordered, which was fine but felt out of place. Stick to the German classics and you won't be disappointed. Would love to return if I ever make it back to Heidelberg.

We weren't sure where to go to check in. So we ended up asking the wait staff. We walked through the restaurant with our luggage to the the check in desk. Our room was comfortable and homey. The door required an old fashioned key to open. You can't beat the location being right by the old bridge.

It wasn't exactly in the old town or near the conference for that matter, so I'm not sure I'd stay here again if I found myself in Heidelberg. However, the employees were nice and the rooms have air conditioning. I chose a room with a room balcony which was a peaceful place to unwind at the end of an evening or for a cup of coffee in the morning. I didn't add breakfast to my stay, so I can't comment on that. There is an honor bar on the third floor that guests are allowed to take 1 item from (a beer or bottle of water) daily. There is no ice or fridges in the room. I attempted to get ice for a beer I had purchased from a brewery. But the front desk staff said it wasn't possible. There is room service. You can order a pizza and pick it up from the front desk, or you can have them deliver it to your room for a small fee. There is a lack of amenities. In the room there was a tiny shampoo and shower gel along with the one towel. There isn't a coffee maker in the room, so if you want coffee you'll also have to go to the honor bar on the third floor.

Dear Hotel Management, I am writing to formally express my…read moredeep disappointment regarding the treatment my companion and I received during our recent stay at Wohlfühl-Hotel Neu Heidelberg. Our experience was not only unsatisfactory but also alarming and completely unacceptable for any guest. Upon check-in, we found our room in a visibly neglected state excessively dusty, as if it had not been cleaned or used in a considerable amount of time. While such situations may occur, it is your responsibility to ensure that rooms are thoroughly cleaned and ready before being assigned, especially when the reservation is made well in advance. However, what followed was far more troubling. On the evening of April 17 of this year , we returned to the hotel shortly after 10:00 PM. The reception was unattended, and we did not have keys, as we were meant to change rooms that evening. We followed your protocol and called the emergency number provided. The manager arrived, but instead of resolving the issue with professionalism, he behaved in an aggressive and hostile manner. He shouted at us and, shockingly, ordered us to leave the hotel at 11:00 PM. His reaction was not only unprofessional, it placed us in an unsafe situation late at night in a foreign city. This level of conduct from hotel management is indefensible. No guest should ever be subjected to such treatment, regardless of the circumstances. Moreover, I cannot help but question whether our nationality may have influenced the manager's behavior. As non-German guests, it is difficult to ignore the impression that we were treated with less respect, perhaps reflecting prejudices from the past, that regrettably, still persist in some corners of German society. This concern must be taken seriously. I am formally requesting a written apology from the hotel, as well as an explanation of the internal actions being taken to ensure this does not happen again. I would appreciate a response within 7 days of this email. Should I not receive a satisfactory reply, I will not hesitate to escalate this matter through the appropriate consumer and tourism authorities, as well as share this experience publicly across all major travel review platforms. Sincerely,We had a very disappointing experience at this hotel. The service was poor, and the staff were unwelcoming. Our room was extremely dusty, as if it had not been used or cleaned in a very long time. While that can happen, it is the hotel's responsibility to ensure that rooms are clean and ready before assigning them to guests--especially when the reservation is made in advance. The most concerning part of our stay happened one night when we returned to the hotel after 10:00 PM. There was no one at the reception, and we had no keys, as we were supposed to change rooms that evening. We called the emergency number provided, and the manager arrived, but instead of assisting us, he was extremely rude and aggressive. Shockingly, he asked us to leave the hotel at 11:00 PM. No guest deserves to be treated in such a way, regardless of the circumstances. Hotels should handle difficult situations with professionalism and respect. Asking guests to leave in the middle of the night is unacceptable and unsafe. I sincerely hope no other guest has to go through this kind of treatment. It also raises a serious concern: would we have been treated differently if we were American or European? It's a question worth asking.
