We ended up staying in Vita, a 55 square meter apartment (the biggest they have; the others are 40 and 50 square meters), which has a bedroom with two twin beds pushed together king bed-size, a sitting room, a full kitchen with kitchen table for eating space, a dining room with table, and an enormous bathroom that rather dwarfs its shower stall. Also there's a balcony off the bathroom. The only thing this lacks as an apartment is onsite laundry, but there's arrangements with a service to pick up and deliver. Michael and Jennifer have gone above and beyond to provide service at a high level of care, talking thru maps and points of interest, helping us find needed items (there's always something we didn't plan for), and even including with our room a Speyer card for touring key places in town at a discount. They are awesome and their apartment is as awesome as they are.

the Goldenes Lamm is conveniently located in the middle of Dudenhofen, which is a town right…read moreoutside the lovely city of Speyer. overall, it is an excellent value, with comfortable beds in average-sized rooms. bathrooms are ensuite, and there is a spacious elevator along with stairs. as is common with many hotels, be aware that the Lamm does not have air-conditioning. they provide a small fan in each room; however, even when the hotel is not fully booked and temperatures are record-breaking, they refuse to provide any extra fans for guests. this one-fan-per-room rule is the reason i have to dock a star; hospitality is the #1 job of a hotel and taking care of guests' comfort should take precedence over policy. the hotel features some nice touches; for example a "good night box" in each room with a handmade lavender sachet, earplugs, and gummi bears. self-serve coffee and fruit is available in the lobby. the included breakfast buffet is quite nice; the food is artfully presented, and the eggs are made to order! the tea service is especially well-done. other pluses are a common room with a refrigerator divided into private compartments -- simply get a key at the desk and you can store your own food! there is also bike parking in the lot across the street in a secure, well-lit shed. and if you need a bike, there are reasonable rentals available of both regular and e-bikes, including for families with young kids.

This makes absolutely no sense. The food is just ok. The chicken skewers I had were overcooked with terrible kimchi. My salad was good, but it's a salad. The wifi was broken for the entire 5 hours I was there. It's a hotel with many guests who need wifi and the internet was totally down. When I was finished my dishes sat there for a half hour before someone bussed them. I would come her again for the great outdoor views and social setting on great weather days, but I'd come even more often if they had more workers so the service was more attentive and the food was a bit better. Also, move the bart seats to the other side!
