Birkenhead Priory dates back to 1150, making it the oldest standing building on the whole of Merseyside. Made from original old Cheshire red sandstone, it contrasts well with its net-door neighbour, Cammell Laird's shipyard.
NIce visit if you like to be in the presence of genuine old age (apart from standing near me!)
The tower of St Mary's gives visitors a wonderful view over the whole of Birkenhead, The Mersey and a good bit of Liverpool itself. This was the very first parish church in Birkenhead.
