This place is disappointing to say the least, saw several birds that are luckily only being boarded and will hopefully get out of there quickly. Cages are absolutely filthy, birds are being fed cheap, seed diet which isn't good for them, and the store all together is completely run down and disgusting. Wish I could rescue all of those poor boarded birds from this place. How this owner stays in business is beyond me. If you care for your pet, stay far away! read more

This is my favorite bird store to go to in the Valley. They have all the supplies and food for your birds. They have all sizes of cages. Employees are super friendly and knowledgeable about the birds. They actually house birds for customers when customers are traveling. Amazing store and service. I've purchased two different cages from here and their prices are amazing. Good quality cages. read more

Lloyd is super friendly and very knowledgeable. He is always helping us with any questions or if we just want to walk around the store and look around. We bought a cockatiel for less than half the price of PetCo. Food, toys, and cages too. It's obvious he's a bird lover and the birds in the store seem very happy and healthy. They are well taken care of. I appreciate this business. read more

Been going forever to Bird's Plus a wonderland of exotic birds, took my Amazon Parrot in for a grooming session because he hates going to local vet screams are painful to hear he is telling me something...yesterday Cecil was calm came out beautifully decided worth the drive to go where my baby is happy, around 35 years old now that is important to me Thank You Bird's Plus! read more

Great selection. Great expertise. We got our first Green Cheeked Conure from Lloyd and it was a great experience all around.

I went here with my kids a few months back.. At the time we were curious for a pet bird/parrot to be exact. I remember walking in and the place being vacant. We must have gone on a sunday at about 4 pm, possible close to closing time. The older male that works there hardly acknowledged us, nor offered to help us in anyway. We inquired about some beautiful big parrots in the back of the store to ask how much they were. He simple replied those were not for sale..I guess they babysit birds here for pet owners that go on vacation. Any who, probably won't come back here again. Maybe I went on an off day, or was just expecting too much. ‍ read more

Got a new bird!! It was GCC season and they had a lot of babies. I brought my daughter to choose one but the guy grabbed a bird and gave it to her. I was going to say she could pick it but I trusted him and my daughter fell in love with the little conure instantly. She was very calm and relaxed in the beginning and now she's the world craziest conure! Awesome awesome bird can't wait to get another! Thank you Birds plus!! read more

another place that is pure *in Mermaid man from sponge bob voice* EEEEVVVIIIILLL!!!! this place sells, flying monkeys that carried me off into a cage and left me there. ok if you ACTUALLY belived that happend then you who are reading this need serious help. This place is not just old school but has old school charm, the animals here are well cared for and happy. Lloyd is like your old neighborhood family candy store owner, much like Otto of Ottos delicatesain was to me. He is well knowlegable, friendly and jovial. He allows you to get to know the birds to see which one will take to you and see a bond. Serioulsy Birds plus like The perfect Parrot is a gem. Why go to chain places when you can have places where you basically have your own personal bird whisperier? Espcially a place where you get people who actually OWN birds not just for a few months but for many years! read more

We have been so unhappy with our parrot groomer over the past year, and found this shop and it was AWESOME ! Easy parking, efficient and convenient service. Great grooming experience! read more

I came here today to replace two zebra finches which had passed on. Lou sold me a Gouldian and a Cordon Bleu. I agree with prior reviews that he is a bit of an eccentric dude (reminds me of an old Vietnam vet but I like those guys) but he knows birds. Yes the place isn't pretty but they have an impressive inventory and I didn't get the impression that the birds were sick or unhealthy. I am hopeful that these birds will be healthy and happy... Time will tell. By I thought the price was fair and I really don't have anything negative to say. I didn't feel like Lou pressured me into buying anything. I generally don't need to be coddled when I go to a store. I just want salespeople who are knowledgeable and trustworthy. So far I have no reason to believe he isn't either of those things. I also must say I went to this store because there weren't a bunch of reviews saying the birds died shortly after purchase (can't say the same for Petsmart). read more

Was recommended by an acquaintance to purchase a bird here....Louie wasn't exactly friendly, the place is kind of dirty, the cages are small & dirty w/many birds huddled together....picked out a cockatiel, Louie overcharged me, when I got home I realized he charged me an extra $10, called him asking why it was so much, he said" it's the tax ," but it was beyond the tax...he says,"well you can bring the bird back if your not happy!!" I told him that's not the issue, you overcharged me, how about offering me my money back jerk?? He didn't give me a receipt as well, just kind of shady. He's very intimidating, rude & after reading other comments, I'd recommend buying supplies on Amazon, & theres "Pets Naturally," a really nice breeder in Woodland Hills, or Tails & Scales in Burbank... He also charges a lot more than other breeders, shops, everything is over priced, dirty, and the customer service stinks!! Everyone has to wait patiently for "loud mouth Louie," to complete each transaction, customer abuse at its best, steer clear!!!!!!! read more

A great bird store. BIRDS ARE HIGH MAINTENANCE PETS and should not be owned as "background" or life-long caged pets to be mostly ignored. Bad idea for birds! Cruel treatment! And Birds Plus, if you own one or more, is just the place to buy. More importantly, it's a great place to visit or call to get quick advice for how to enjoy your bird and keep it healthy and happy. Lloyd and Louie have decades of experience with all types of birds, and I trusted them when I needed to board my Macaw and Caique there for over 2 weeks. By the way, never get a bird "for the kids." Because once the bird is brought home and ends up biting each kid to show dominance, the kids will either mistreat the bird or not want anything to do with it. Birds are for adults or carefully supervised older kids! And Birds Plus is the place to... get-er-done! read more

Lloyd is usually the man that helps me when I bring my green cheek conure in for grooming. He's always fast, courteous, and gentle with my bird. He and his partner have answered several of my questions about the bird, to help me provide a good life for my little buddy. I've been to a few other places in L.A., but these gentlemen are more knowledgeable and helpful than anyplace else that I've been. I've seen the way they take care of their birds, too. I generally wouldn't buy an animal from a breeder or pet store, but I would here. They socialize all of their birds and treat them well. If you have a bird or want one, do yourself a favor and stop at Birds Plus first. read more

I have been coming to Birds Plus for years. Lloyd owns the shop, is super friendly and he is the more quiet of the two. Lou is a talker and can sometimes get fixated in a conversation with one customer while letting another sit in wait. Give him time and Lou will give you the same attention. He is a bullshitter with a heart of gold. I have read reviews that complain of dirty cages. The cages are old, but I usually see clean paper on the trays with fresh water and food available for the birds. The only exception would be in the crates with baby birds where they are constantly crapping. All the Indian Ringnecks, canaries and finches that I have purchased at Birds Plus over the years were healthy. Both Lou and Lloyd are helpful and will do a good job grooming your birds. They know about birds because they raise them and interact with them. Many bird owners board their birds at Birds Plus when on vacation and that shows the trust people have with Lloyd and Lou. read more

I stopped by to check out birds with my 2 kids. Lloyd let my kids hold a couple of handfed Green Cheek Conure and one of them really like my kids. His price for birds was very good. It was 1/2 the price of a place I check the prior day and it was cheaper than pet stores with untamed birds. We ended up buying the conure (now named Scarlett) and a cage. Also, he didn't pressure me into buying. read more

I was so incredibly disappointed by the store, I was excited to come and visit the store to shop around, but ended up leaving empty-handed, the store is filthy, the birds cages look like they haven't been cleaned in weeks, all the birds are eating crappy, sunflower, seeds, and horrible food and not to mention it's incredibly hot in there, I understand it's summer, but that can't be safe for the birds! Even walked by a cage of cockatiels that had laid an egg recently not even sure if the owner had noticed :/ read more

Went in there yesterday 4/2/19 because my Blue and Gold Macaw was out of food, because i was recommended to go to Lou by Marlene McCohen a very knowledgeable bird lover and youtuber i was very excited to see what Lou had to offer. He started off by asking what i was feeding my 6 month old blue and gold and what her reaction to the food was. After realizing i was feeding her the wrong food. Lou quickly helped me find something better for a weening blue and gold macaw. My blue and Gold is in love with her new selection of food and i will continue to go to Lou for more advice and any other concern i may have. By the way he also helped me pick out bird toys perfect for my macaw. I will definitely be back! Thanks Birds Plus and a special thanks to Lou! read more

I'm from SD and google and maps both said the store is open and when I arrived there was a sign that says closed on Mondays... super upsetting that I don't get to go in and see what they have all because they couldn't update the online hours of operation my hope by this review is for them to update online if they do I'll be glad to take this post down, hopefully this also allows people to not make the same mistake as me. read more

Really had a good experience here looking for a bird stand. Lloyd was welcoming to me even though he was busy. I can see how some people might feel slighted if Lloyd is running around the store caring for all the birds, but I honestly prefer having the sales staff leave me alone in a store from time to time to look at the merchandise. Bought some nice items, decently priced, no issues. Will be back again. read more

I 100% recommend this store. Loyd has his birds at an affordable price and at a reasonable price too. I have bought two healthy baby conures from him at an amazing price. The store may be a mess at times but it's what you expect with birds, especially at a bird store. read more

I purchased a canary from them last August, brought it home with the guarantee that if it didn't start singing within a few weeks, bring it back for an exchange. Brought it back, but wanted a red canary, which he said usually come in around December/January. He said, "Don't worry, I owe you." Came back today to see if there were any red canaries... there weren't. He said he didn't get any in in December. We asked if he had any English Budgies... nope. When I asked for a refund he said, "I haven't given a refund in 100 years". Sure enough to his credit there was an old battered sign on the wall that states NO REFUNDS. However, it was the dismissive way he delivered the news - no eye contact and simultaneously walking out of the room into the back as if that was the end of the discussion. I took issue with this and he said, "Look, you come in here 6 months after the fact and expect a bird?" I pointed out that he had just told me he had gotten no red canaries at the time he said they would come in so me coming in now would have made no difference - I would still be out $140. He said, "What would make you happy?" I said obviously what would make me happy would be getting what I came in for 6 months ago, but I would opt for an English Budgie. Again he says, "Don't have them and don't know when I'll get them in again." Then he said, "You should have come in when I told you to in December" to which I replied, "Wait. You just told me you didn't get any in then. So which is it?" He got peeved that I caught him in a lie and more words were exchanged between the both of us and then he finished by saying, "You can get the fuck out of my store." Which was accompanied by a closed fist raised to me. So, customer satisfaction does not seem to be a priority with these guys. read more

Loui Saved My Birds Life! A few months back my flighted yellow napped flew out of my garage and perched on a really tall tree. Many rescue services refused to help us including our local fire department. Our parrot was so scared and spent an entire night in freezing stormy weather. We managed to rescue her after many attempts. After a few weeks we started noticing a change in behavior and appetite, but she was known to be a wierd bird, so we let it be. She always did a good job at keeping her feathers looking sharp until she just got really bad and we didn't know what to do. A really expensive vet told us parrots are really good at hiding when they're sick so they dont get banned from the flock. She had been sick a long time and was definitely dying. But Loui takes one look at her says here man give her some of this stuff right here and keep her warm she needs it! Everything loui recommended worked I set up a little sauna room where I quarantined her and kept her on that medicine. I'm so grateful she's now back to doing better. It sucks to see your bird in pain and a vet would let you pay so much money for a dead bird. I am never trusting a vet! Loui is #1 read more

Had a couple bad encounters here and I can say it's the worst place to shop for any of your bird needs Claims that birds are for sale But doesn't have the formula to sell to his customers Or let alone to feed his poor animals, so there for he can't sell you the bird because he doesn't know if you have the proper education to spoon feed a bird that I seeen eating seeds, I'm very disappointed for the fact that the old fart called me dumb Customers are always right : him well they might need a week more I can feed him for you "if you want" but " it's up to you" There fore why didn't I leave with my birds Walk ways are crowded with cages and over hanging boxes that are unsafe Very unsafe very rude Very uneducated when it comes to conversation with other people Normal customers, is what we thought to be And every time he's treated us with disrespect We'd manage to show up and he'd always help us last Especially if there was other white people he'd be so outgoing with his fellow racist friends But once it comes to us Latinos He manages to think otherwise All birds are malnourished Only fed once a day All birds in the back had what it seemed no food or water think twice about shopping here I've also bought multiple canaries and green cheeks most but one has Died All Managed to die the same way read more

Just brought home our green cheeked conure today from Birds Plus. Louie was extremely helpful in giving us all of the information we needed to be successful bird owners and we couldn't be happier. My 9 year-old really wanted a bird and we have bought a few parakeets in the past from major chains and had trouble taming them. We originally thought we may want a cockatiel but Louie met my daughter and thought that she would really enjoy the conure much more and I have to say that so far, we are thrilled! Mango is the sweetest, most tame bird we have ever experienced. We got her settled in today and she is already comfortable stepping up and sitting on our shoulders. We look forward to many, many years of enjoyment. Thanks Louie for helping us with our decision and providing us with the education that we need! Great prices on supplies as well. read more

I've known Lloyd and Louie and have been going to Birds Plus for more than 40 years now! I consider them good friends! Not sure how many birds my wife and I have gotten over the years there, but we've learned a lot and have had nothing but stellar experiences with these two great and knowledgable guys! Lived in the Valley all my life, but we live in Santa Clarita these days, and STILL, there's no place else we would go for all our bird's needs and drive all the way there even for wing and nail clippings! Wouldn't trust anyone else! Neither should you! Nobody knows more about birds! If you have any interest in owning a pet bird, I highly recommend you check these guys out!
