Been coming to this store for years. I used to own a yellow lovebird who passed away after 5 years. Losing her was hard but what made things worse was the quietness at home. We finally decided that it was okay to get another bird. We had already purchased a cockatiel for my mother-in-law a few years prior from here and this time we came to get one for our little family. Buddy has been a great addition to our home and family. We still stop by to get her food from here and my husband loves seeing the other birds in store. Loyd is the nicest guy! Both my African Greys were purchsed from him: the first one I got as a baby 10 years ago and the new addition to the family was bought 6 months ago after her owner of 10 years passed away and the widow gave the bird to Loyd to sell. This place is disgusting. Went in to look around and every cage was filthy with what looked like bird crap for months on bottom of cage. Water was filthy in every cage and should be changed twice a day. He had put an old tennis sneaker in one of the cages that looked like it had been there for a year. It was absolutely disgusting.. He had loose birds right by an open door to a very busy street intersection and that was so unsafe. He was so unfriendly and could care less about selling a thing in that store. Those birds are so neglected and not cared for. This place should be shut down. I don't see how anyone can put a positive review on this page if they cared at all about their birds. Unless you like filthy disgusting conditions that look like there's been no maintenance and cleaning to the store or cage in years. From the looks of the outside, I thought we were walking into a condemned building. Guy at desk paid us no attention and could care less if we wanted to buy a thing. Those poor birds are totally neglected. Do not go here. I found a store called Parrots Naturally and it is wonderful and clean and the owners really care about their birds. The only thing that could improve this place is for all the cages to be removed and sanitized and the entire room totally power washed. There is so much dust build up in cages and all along walls. My face broke out in a red rash after leaving the store from all the dust and dander. What can I say? I love bird plus. Owner is always pleasant and helpful. We take our bird to trim her nails and wings.

So how is it possible that only a small handful of people can see that Birds Plus is not a good, healthy environment for birds, least of all new baby birds? The man running the place is nice, but the information is definitely inaccurate for the most part. The birds (babies) were all in a cage with one filthy water bowl. I know birds are messy but it's not like he was changing out the water that I could see the whole time I was there (I made several visits in one day) The place is dirty. Yes it's old but old is not synonymous with filthy. People who advocate boarding their birds there lead me to wonder what conditions they're keeping their birds in at home if they don't see this is NOT a good environment. It's also possible that people don't look further than here because they like the guy behind the counter so they don't know there's better .... I guess that's a possibility. But I don't have to know what it's like to eat out of the garbage to know a filthy plate when I see it. I would NOT purchase a bird there, LEAST of all board my beloved birds there. Do your research. We bought our baby Sun Conure from Lloyd about 3 months ago. I read some of the bad reviews about cleanliness/water/seed and etc. but I have to say, our baby is in perfect condition. She is the sweetest bird ever. She is very friendly and never bites anyone. She loves our whole family. I switched her from a seed/pellet mix when I got her to Tops, Harrison's and Roudybush pellets, veggies, grains, beans, sprouts, a very small amount of fruit and misc. She is doing wonderful! If it was up to my husband, we would have bought another Sun from Lloyd yesterday, and he isn't a bird person, I am. ;-) read more

Now they are home and cozy with us as can be seen in the pics. :) We've seen conures, budgies, love birds, all kinds of larger parrots, colorful canaries and too many finch varieties to name. We always buy our bird food here. Lou knows a lot about birds and can answer any questions. This place needs to be shut down! These poor birds! First time I was in there and I was in shock. All the cages are filthy dirty, "IF "there is water in the bird cages it is yellow and disgusting. Barely seeds in most of the cages and just deplorable conditons . Also there are no toys or anything of stimulation in the cages for the emotional well being of these birds! just sitting on perches doing NOTHING all day and in filth. There were baby cockatiels who were also in a disgusting cage, filthy water and looked so unkempt and unhealthy. I would not buy a bird from the store ever. The older guy, one of the owners I'm assuming working there was not doing anything to mantain these cages and just sitting on his chair. This is unacceptable the condition these birds are in!
