First we had the BNP headquarters, followed soon after by Hermés, and then the ateliers for Chanel. We have hip artist spaces, organic food co-ops, community gardens, and bearded hipsters moving in daily. And now the mark of a truly up and coming neighborhood - a Bio 'c Bon. As happy as I am to be able to walk around the corner to get my tofu and vegan gummy bears, I'm a bit worried about the effect the store will have on the local and organic food stands at the marché across the street. I'm also anxious about what the store says about the looming gentrification of the 'hood...even if I must honestly admit to being one of those gentrifiers. That said, I feel good about having one more thing to highlight when people think I'm crazy for saying Pantin is the Brooklyn of Paris. We now have our own bright and new organic grocery that looks like all of the other ones that bear its name. I wish it had been a Biocoop instead, but I'll take it! read more
