The granddaddy of Maui's community centers is still going strong!…read more ATMOSPHERE: Zero a/c. That's a turn off for most. The facility is sports 3 sections - a central courtyard area with a high ceiling that is protected from the sun but if it rains some will get wet, and two hall areas that look into the central area via glass jalousie windows. The kitchen separates the two hall areas. The bathrooms are off to the side. It really is a convenient & intimate design but is just old. For those of you who remember the "pit", it has now been filled. PARKING: The two lots fit maybe 100 cars, and there's more parallel street parking. OVERALL: Great for a small party of 300 or less.

Kahului Community Center is located in the heart of Kahului. It's probably one of Maui's first…read moreCommunity Centers built. It's not fancy. Consist of a small concrete stage that is open aired and a small area fronting it that can be used for a dance floor or to lay tables out for a gathering. It also has two separate rooms that is conjoined by a walk through kitchen. They do provide tables and chairs for a function. But keep in mind it's an older community center. A small storage room with brooms, mops and dustpans for you to use. Bathrooms are a bit run down, but at least it's not smelly or disgusting. The lighting isn't the brightest, but at least you can see what you're eating. It's a fair place to have a small function/gathering. Convenient in downtown Kahului and lots of parking. I'd use it for convenience. But not for an occasion like a wedding or fancy get get together.

My kids have been going to PYCC for a couple years now, and at first it seemed like a perfect space…read morefor the kids to learn to cook, edit videos, host a radio station, do art, and play with friends their age. It was good at first, even though I struggled with the lack of supervision by the pycc staff, I saw the good in what they were trying to do. Yet, every time I was there, the teenage boys were always running around, cursing and being rowdy. Again, I looked past it because my kids were learning to cook, making videos in the media lab, sewing classes, making friends, and I would even listen to them host on the radio. It was a positive place for the most part. Then suddenly the staff started leaving. The older woman who ran the radio room retired and was replaced by an 18 year old boy. The man running the media lab moved away and it became a place for kids to just watch youtube videos unchecked and then the room was locked away. I do appreciate the cook, Ben, and the front desk person, Abby. Who seem to always be looking out for the kids and making it a positive place. But, they are obviously overwhelmed with 40+ teenagers running around and doing whatever they want. I do know they try, and I appreciate those two staff members. For the last six months I became wary of sending my daughter there as the rowdiness was getting worse and going unchecked. I started getting bad feelings about PYCC, and I was considering pulling my daughter out as it started to feel unsafe for girls. And my sons were learning behaviors from other boys that was just not okay. There was an instance where one of the teenage boys was showing young girls porn and threatening to r*pe them and grabbing them and trying to get them alone. It took the kids telling on him multiple times for them to finally kick him out. But overall I don't feel pycc is safe for girls. I was hesitant to write this because the idea of PYCC is really good and it used to be okay, but it's not anymore and they need to watch the children better.

It's not a place I frequent, or any kids of mine, but it's such a great facility for the local kids…read moreto use. I popped in to drop off some used feed bags for their beach cleanup day this weekend. They host events like this, and do other good things in the community with the aim to provide a safe environment for young people. Activities and classes. Supervision and mentoring. They even have their own radio station to encourage kids to learn these skills. PYCC deserves a lot of respect. Donations are welcome.

I don't think my doctors get enough praise! I have been seeing Heather Milovina for about 3…read moreyears. She is my OBGYN and every appointment I have been met with compassion and everything explained to me where I fully understand it. I've never wanted to go to the doctor, but she makes my visits something I can look forward to. Understanding what's going on with my body is important. I also see Gabrielle O'Sullivan and she is absolutely wonderful. You can tell these two doctors genuinely care and are always there to answer questions.. Thank you so much for everything.

The providers there are incredibly caring, warm and I never felt rushed at my appointments. I highly recommend Dr Casey and Heather Milovina - they are both incredible, so competent and skilled and kind. Out of the 6 providers, I felt totally comfortable with 5 out of 6 of them - which is pretty great! I gave birth a few weeks ago and had a very positive experience thanks to the wonderful people at Malama. Dr Casey was my doctor who delivered my baby, and I felt 100% confident and comfortable with him, knowing I was in great hands. Heather was there the next day, which was great, because I was seeing her the most during my prenatal visits (she is an incredible midwife), and she has a wonderful presence about her - she cares so much about her patients, and you feel completely comfortable in her care. I would highly recommend Malama if you are pregnant, I think they are the best on the island as far as prenatal care and caring about women's birth experiences.
