Binhi At Ani, meaning "seed and harvest" is the central valley's newest community center which…read moreopened in 2005 and is ran by a non-profit organization as opposed to being county government-owned. THE FACILITIES: The main hall is 8,000 sf and fully air conditioned. It's a wide open room with high open-beam ceilings, LED lighting, fans, a good sized stage, full kitchen, conference room, dressing room, and an open-air patio. Max capacity is 464. Restrooms were clean. The only downfall is the parking lot which is small, but they have overflow parking across the street at Maui Waena Intermediate School. Though the sign states "Filipino Community Center" it's open to all, lol. I've been here only a handful of times and like it because its close to home and newer than neighboring Kahului Community Center. FACT: This is the new home of the Barrio Fiesta that happens every May, moving from the War Memorial field after many years.

Maui's very own Filipino community center. I only come out here about once a year once in a while…read moreto attend and perform at Maui's annual Barrio Fiesta Filipino festival. It is a great facility and I believe can host events and such. The staff and organization is pretty willing and open to work with. It is a great community and recreation center. It is interesting to find that it is located within a residential areas of Kahului. I am not from Maui but it is pretty strategic on their part to have the community center located within the Kahului area because there is a high concentration amount of Filipinos in town. It is right across of Maui Waena Intermediate School. There is a decent amount of parking within the area. It is not a very big Filipino Community Center compared to O'ahu's Filipino Community Center. If you are ever in the Maui area, their biggest event is the annual Barrio Fiesta which happens every May. They usually run the event on Friday and Saturday all day long.

My kids have been going to PYCC for a couple years now, and at first it seemed like a perfect space…read morefor the kids to learn to cook, edit videos, host a radio station, do art, and play with friends their age. It was good at first, even though I struggled with the lack of supervision by the pycc staff, I saw the good in what they were trying to do. Yet, every time I was there, the teenage boys were always running around, cursing and being rowdy. Again, I looked past it because my kids were learning to cook, making videos in the media lab, sewing classes, making friends, and I would even listen to them host on the radio. It was a positive place for the most part. Then suddenly the staff started leaving. The older woman who ran the radio room retired and was replaced by an 18 year old boy. The man running the media lab moved away and it became a place for kids to just watch youtube videos unchecked and then the room was locked away. I do appreciate the cook, Ben, and the front desk person, Abby. Who seem to always be looking out for the kids and making it a positive place. But, they are obviously overwhelmed with 40+ teenagers running around and doing whatever they want. I do know they try, and I appreciate those two staff members. For the last six months I became wary of sending my daughter there as the rowdiness was getting worse and going unchecked. I started getting bad feelings about PYCC, and I was considering pulling my daughter out as it started to feel unsafe for girls. And my sons were learning behaviors from other boys that was just not okay. There was an instance where one of the teenage boys was showing young girls porn and threatening to r*pe them and grabbing them and trying to get them alone. It took the kids telling on him multiple times for them to finally kick him out. But overall I don't feel pycc is safe for girls. I was hesitant to write this because the idea of PYCC is really good and it used to be okay, but it's not anymore and they need to watch the children better.

It's not a place I frequent, or any kids of mine, but it's such a great facility for the local kids…read moreto use. I popped in to drop off some used feed bags for their beach cleanup day this weekend. They host events like this, and do other good things in the community with the aim to provide a safe environment for young people. Activities and classes. Supervision and mentoring. They even have their own radio station to encourage kids to learn these skills. PYCC deserves a lot of respect. Donations are welcome.

I don't think my doctors get enough praise! I have been seeing Heather Milovina for about 3…read moreyears. She is my OBGYN and every appointment I have been met with compassion and everything explained to me where I fully understand it. I've never wanted to go to the doctor, but she makes my visits something I can look forward to. Understanding what's going on with my body is important. I also see Gabrielle O'Sullivan and she is absolutely wonderful. You can tell these two doctors genuinely care and are always there to answer questions.. Thank you so much for everything.

The providers there are incredibly caring, warm and I never felt rushed at my appointments. I highly recommend Dr Casey and Heather Milovina - they are both incredible, so competent and skilled and kind. Out of the 6 providers, I felt totally comfortable with 5 out of 6 of them - which is pretty great! I gave birth a few weeks ago and had a very positive experience thanks to the wonderful people at Malama. Dr Casey was my doctor who delivered my baby, and I felt 100% confident and comfortable with him, knowing I was in great hands. Heather was there the next day, which was great, because I was seeing her the most during my prenatal visits (she is an incredible midwife), and she has a wonderful presence about her - she cares so much about her patients, and you feel completely comfortable in her care. I would highly recommend Malama if you are pregnant, I think they are the best on the island as far as prenatal care and caring about women's birth experiences.
