It'd be ideal to have something to munch on while you wait for the food, some bread or nuts or something. Then again, I've only been here for 2 weeks so it might the norm.

I went to Le Royal with friends last weekend. It was early, 5 p.m. and the restaurants we checked…read moredidn't start serving food until 6 o'clock. Le Royal did! It was crowded downstairs, where there is a very nice bar. The waiter directed us upstairs (there are 3 floors). Where we sat there was only one other table occupied. Fortunately we were sat next to the giant windows, which showed a nice view of the main square with the town hall just across the way and the belfry off to the left and up the road. The waiter came immediately with the menus and asked if we wanted to order drinks. We did. Three Montois (local beer) and a fruit juice. When they came, he took our orders. Two of us had a brochette (skewer) of very plump shrimp served with salad and a big bowl of frites/french fries. The other two had the salmon with bernaise sauce and more frites. Actually we got through those taters quite quickly so I asked for me. They were brought in minutes (and no additional charge). When we were all done, having enjoyed a nice meal and friendship, we asked for the bill. It turned out to be 21 Euro per dinner with the drink. I found this reasonable because Belgium isn't really cheap to eat out but this was very reasonable. To top it off, the waiter came back with the change and asked us if we wanted another drink, "on the house". Of course we did! So it was a Bailey's Irish Cream, a cognac, a beer and a fruit juice compliments of the house. The price of those drinks would set one back about 15 Euros, so overall it was a great deal and very tasty food. I'm definitely going back soon!
