I made a reservation, glad a did because the place was packed. Our choices of burgers were simple, their signature burger Le TonTon has bacon, cheddar and an egg. You can just order a burger or order it with fries. My son order a basic bacon and cheddar burger. We made our orders at the counter and took our seats. We didn't wait long, our burgers came and they were hot and ready. At first bite, my son was delighted! It was the first time he ate an entire burger! Normally the burger are either to dry, not enough meat or the buns overpower the burger. These burgers were perfection! The meat was cooked perfectly and juicy, the cheese melted to perfection, the bacon was crispy and delicious and the egg was fried awesomely. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They take cash, I made my reservation through their Facebook page, they answered right away. They have really great service. We were their first customers for the dinner meal. My wife's french is decent, although she has to ask people to slow down for her. We decided we wanted wine tonight, but have little experience with European wines, so we definitely needed help, and asked for a white wine that was slightly sweet. He brought us out two different 30ml samples, one dryer and more grapefruitier than the other, which I liked, and Sheri enjoyed the sweeter wine, can't remember what they were though. We noticed that they had charcuterie on the Menu, but were worried that it was the cheap cheese and salami cubes we have snacked on at other restaurants here in Belgium. When asked our waiter named all 6 cheeses on the board and we recognized several of them, so we were really excited and ordered the mixed plate of meat and cheese. When our waiter brought out the charcuterie board along with a basket of fresh homemade brown bread we thought we died and went to heaven. Every delightful bite was perfection. We then ordered our dinner for the night, Sheri ordered the Orange Duck, and I ordered The Herve Burger (cheeseburger), both medium rare. They have this Red Blend called "Suivi des Fees" from Brulhois France; it was superb and perfect with my burger. My wife loved her Orange Duck, and we traded bites of food so both could sample each other's main dish and we both really enjoyed our food. The best was that we considered our food and service to be 5-Star level fine dining; we were very pleasantly surprised that with 4 glasses of wine, charcuterie, and two main courses that our bill was only €64, in the states this meal would have cost greater than $100 U.S. We love Mons, so we definitely will be back for another scrumptious culinary experience.

It was the first one in the area where you can order from a screen, pay there and then have somebody bring your food to you. It's a lot better than standing in line!! This last visit I was only there for a coffee and burger as my wife shopped. This is a very inexpensive meal, so kudos there to McDonalds!

It was obviously a popular spot with the locals since there were plenty sitting at the bar. The service was great despite a language barrier. I do try with my French but it only goes so far. We each got a burger with fries and there are tons of sauce choices. I like spicy so I went with the samurai. The wife went straight mayo. Great beer selection at a decent price. For two burgers and 3 beers, it was 28 €.

Like the other few cafes close by, they put out stalls to sell beer to those going to the game. Taverne 44 is also a "friterie" where they serve those famous Belgian fries (with many different sauces including mayonnaise!) and other friterie snacks such as burgers, brochettes, frikandels and so on. Unlike most of the other sandwich shops, Henri's Sandwicherie is open until 1830hrs. Half of a fresh, crisp baguette with rost beef and gouda cheese with mayo, pickled onions, pickles, and tomatoes plus a can of Coke Zero Sugar was 6.30 Euros. Awesome deal, makes eating much more affordable when you don't have to spend 20-40 Euro on lunch daily when wandering through Mons. Unfortunately no dedicated seating like the other restaurants on the Grand Place, but you can sit at one of the 6 large circling benches on the plaza and people watch to your heart's content!!!
