This place is worried more about having access to the food truck than they are the patrons. It's 40 degrees outside and the have the overhead door open. Heaters not working worth a shit! This place has taken a huge nose dive over the past 5+ years even with new ownership. Prior to new ownership it was a place you could go for free live music, new ownership got greedy and have a cover charge. Wow $10 per person for a band I have never heard of. Even the bartender has to have a heater on top the cooler Wow, and the main band Jake Bush band played from 10:00-11-30 at a $10.00 per head cover.

    Extraordinarily talented bands!

Great bar with nice beer selection, cocktails and very personal and friendly service. Love the bartenders. Always fast and efficient. And they remember customers..... Nice feeling!

What can I say. LOVE ME SOME BILLY'S ICE! As a local, it is my favorite bar in the New Braunfels area. From Austin to San Antonio, there is no better place to hang out with a cold beer in a spacious open air environment. Located across from Gruene Harley, Billy's gets its share of good natured riders, but being so close to the Guadalupe River, it's also a popular summer stop for (adult) "toobers" coming off the river. They are well known for packing the place on the weekends with great area bands that not just come from New Braunfels, but from Austin and San Antonio too. Great acts like "3 Man Front", "LC Rocks" and the "MaxBand" to name a few. Billy's has a reasonably priced full bar and all the beers you can think of slung by a couple of the coolest bartenders around, Kellie and Farmer. Pool tables, jukebox, live music, spacious dance floor, drinks specials, great location and fun people makes Billy's a THE locals favorite, come make it yours too!

The area is quite spacious - with 3 main areas for dining, and its own parking lot which is fantastic. Even though I was tempted for a good time going in the evening --- or even the weekend --- I had a bunch of errands today and chose rather to go for breakfast when the amount of people is few and the environment is just overall more relaxed. I'm glad I did. For my meal I ordered just one thing the Bauern Schnitzel. This dish is described as a "breakfast specialty featuring a hand-breaded pork schnitzel topped with two eggs and hollandaise sauce. This German-Texan fusion dish is served daily during morning hours and comes with a biscuit alongside your choice of home fries, hash browns, grits, or black beans." Within minutes of my order being placed, my food came out in about 5 minutes -- not too shabby! As you can see from the photo, it looked very appealing. How was the taste? Simply filling and comforting. It was rich, stick to your bones grub that you want every so often. Hash browns were crisp, and the schnitzel was fried perfectly and topped with my over easy eggs. Everything simply worked in unison for a flavorful combination. The biscuit was also something to mention. It was homemade, fluffy, and not dry whatsoever! If I weren't such an introvert, I'd love to visit in the evenings --- as fun as this experience was this morning. The space is beautiful and definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

It has a classy, tasteful speakeasy vibe without feeling overdone or pretentious. They also have a private room that would be great for a special group gathering or a more intimate celebration. The grand piano in the room adds a really elegant touch and makes the space feel even more elevated. We went on a Monday night, so it's hard to say what the normal energy is like on a busier evening, but the overall atmosphere was still very pleasant. Service was friendly and attentive, which I appreciated. The only thing I would have loved was a little more creativity or guidance with the cocktails. The space gives the impression that you're about to get a true mixologist-style experience, but the recommendations we received were pretty standard, like Old Fashioneds and martinis. We were hoping for something a little more unique or original, maybe a twist on a Sidecar or an elevated take on a classic Old Fashioned. That said, it's still a beautiful spot with great ambience, pleasant service, and a very nice overall feel. I would definitely go back, especially on a busier night to see the full vibe.

For several years, I have been the person responsible for cooking the family Thanksgiving dinner…read more Although it is not a task that I dislike, it does take some energy to get it on the table. Fortunately, if it can be considered fortunate, I had a total reverse shoulder replacement surgery a week before Thanksgiving this year. That gave me a "get out of kitchen" pass. We decided that Thanksgiving would be held at my son's house in New Braunfels. He and his wife have an 11.5 month old baby, so it's easier to do it there anyway. To simplify things, they shopped around, looking for a ready to serve, prepared Thanksgiving dinner. They selected the Black Whale because it was the most affordable, and they had heard good things about the place. The dinner package came with a turkey, gravy, dressing, mashed potatoes, greenbean casserole, and a pumpkin or pecan pie. They chose the pecan pie. When my daughter-in-law went to pick up the meal, the Black Whale had also thrown in a loaf of bread and a small loaf of cranberry cornbread. Altogether, they more than gave us our money's worth for this meal. Everything about the meal was good. The turkey was moist, juicy, and flavorful. I don't know how they cooked it or how they prepared it before cooking, but it definitely had flavor throughout. The dressing came in a little round foil pan and looked like some kind of rolls. It was absolutely delicious! It had a little bit of turkey meat in it that gave it a great mouth feel. But the seasoning was what really made it great. The mashed potatoes were very buttery and delicious, even though they were a little runnier than I like. The gravy over all of it was very good. I am not a very big fan of green bean casserole. I liked it back in the day when it first started showing up. But, after so many decades, I'm kind of over it. This was really delicious. It had lots of extra flavors in it. I'm pretty sure they used bits of ham. Since I am a boomer, the green beans could've been cooked a little bit more. My generation likes them cooked to death. I really don't remember my mother using fresh green beans for anything back in the day. I wish they had given us a much larger loaf of the cranberry cornbread. It was amazing. I had never tried a cornbread with fruit in it before. This was moist, sweet, and tart at the same time. The pecan pie was very good. I only wish I had had some whipped topping or vanilla ice cream to put on it. It could've been homemade. I don't think there's really much they could have done to make this a better Thanksgiving feast. Our family was very happy with it. Kudos to the Black Whale for a job well done!

Most entrees come with a choice of soup or salad and they lap brought some delicious marbles rye bread and butter to the table. I chose the pork jager-rham schnitzel with a mushroom and sour cream gravy. It was heaven. The meal was fantastic and we will definitely be back! The only complaint y husband had was that he thought the waitress was trying a little too hard to rush the orders / drinks and meal which kind of annoyed him. He usually tops 25-30% but only tipped 20 due to feeling like he couldn't enjoy his meal because he was being rushed. To be fair- it is summer and their busy season, but I would recommend that could ease up a bit with rushing the orders. This is a seated restaurant- not McDonald's.
