We have travelled all around the Caribbean and this is definitely one of the best snorkeling charters we have ever done! We booked a full day snorkel sail with 4 stops; and the weather couldn't have been more perfect! The price was $125 per person & it includes unlimited drinks (water, soda, beer, & rum punch,) plus a hearty lunch. We arrived to check in at 9:00, and everything was super smooth for checking in. There were a total of 9 passengers & our amazing captain, Sammy, on board. I can't say enough about Sammy! He was friendly, funny, knowledgeable, and seemed to have a true love for St. Maarten, the ocean, and his job. He was quick to offer us drinks, help us with our gear, (no first mate needed,) and point out interesting landmarks and yachts and provide us with a little background history. He helped the ladies on/off the boat and assisted a family with a small child without being promoted. Two thumbs up Sammy!
We had 4 stops included. The first was to Creole Rock where we had crystal clear views of colorful fish, sea urchins, coral and huge rocks. Our 2nd stop was to Tintamarre Island which is known for its sea turtle population. There were not as many fish here; but we were able to find a big, beautiful pair of sea turtles feasting on sea grass while we snorkeled. (The highlight of the trip for me!). Our 3rd stop was to Pinel Island, which we learned was a local favorite beach stop because it can be reached by ferry as well. Here we were able to explore, relax in the water, shop at the small gift boutique or grab a snack/drink at one of the restaurants if desired. We had about 45 minutes at Pinel island. Our final scheduled stop was to a beach on the French side of the island for a sit down lunch. We had preordered upon check-in, so our meals were ready shortly after we were seated. (Choices were grilled mahi, grilled snapper, barbecue ribs, barbecued chicken, or a vegetarian dish.). All meals came with a small salad, rice, beans, and plantains. Water, beer, and soda could be purchased for a minimal fee. All the meals came with plenty of food! My husband said his mahi was the best fish he had while on the island!
After the last stop we started on our way back and Sammy continued to play "Caribbean tunes" and point out highlights. There was a quick "ocean bathroom" break for those who needed it. All in all it was a lovely day out on the water! The boat was new & comfy with shady spots and sunny spots. It was easy to get on & off and the only things we needed to bring with us were beach towels. I highly recommend Billy Bones Boatcharters and especially Captain Sammy! You're sure to have a good time on this trip! read more
