The cabbies will tell you the beach is 15 minutes from the cruise pier but it's closer to 30 and it cost us $72 for 4 of us. Beach chairs were $20 which we thought was expensive but soon discovered it was one of the less expensive places. Our vendor was very friendly but the service was soooooo slooooooow and we were constantly bothered by vendors. In fact two vendors got into a turf war (just yelling) while we were there. The water was crystal clear but we definitely went to better beaches. We won't return here.

A small beach right at the edge of the airport, pretty noisy but spectacular view of the planes landing and taking off.

One of the best experiences at a beach I've ever encountered. The water is gorgeous. Being so close to the airplane's landing is so surreal, especially for airplane fanatics. I only wish it was a larger area. So many tourist come to watch the planes and it can get crowded. The sunsets and sunrises are like no other.

I'd recommend this beach for the experience of seeing the planes land over your head. It is pretty cool if you like plane watching. You can go online and see the scheduled landings for the day so you know the best times to see the big jets. The water here is clear , but a bit rocky by the shoreline, so if you just want to swim, keep that in mind. There are also 2 restaurants/bars on either side of the beach.

Great moments at Maho Beach with some of the biggest airplanes in the world flying over your head.

As an aviation nerd, I finally got to visit famous Maho Beach on the island of St. Maarten. This had been a longtime dream of mine and it finally came to true. What an experience! If you enjoy plane spotting, there is no other place IN THE WORLD better than SXM - Princess Juliana Airport in St. Maarten to catch arrivals and departures from the end of the runway as you're standing on Maho Beach. You will get chills! You will come face to face with some of the biggest airplanes in the world! And that's what Maho Beach is all about. Tourists stand on the beach as planes zoom right over your head and onto the SXM runway. For departures...planes make a left hand turn right beside Maho Beach. You can feel the energy! You can feel the excitement and anticipation! And finally, when those Boeing and Airbus engines rev up and thrust to full throttle and max power, you either get out of the way, stand off to the side of the beach or be prepared to get tossed into the Atlantic Ocean! It's a thrill unlike any other! Writing this review, I'm just 2 days removed from standing on Maho Beach and reliving some of the best moments of my life! It was that surreal, I think I want to cry tears of joy, but really, I just want to return to St. Maarten and relive every moment, every arrival, every departure and let my inner child loose. Here are details about what you can expect if you'd like to visit St. Maarten and stand on world renowned Maho Beach... - All planes basically do a turnaround at SXM - Princess Juliana, meaning...they arrive in St. Maarten, drop passengers off and then load up passengers and depart off the island. Planes don't stay overnight. - The action begins with arrivals over Maho Beach that start as early as 7am, but they are infrequent arrivals, maybe 1 or 2 every hour or so. The majority of the craziness begins around 12pm and lasts through 4pm. You have about 4 quality hours where airlines like American, United, Delta, JetBlue, AirCanada, WestJet and Spirit all come and go. - And...it's not just domestic carriers, Air France flies once a day, every day, right over Maho Beach. It's a beautiful Airbus A330 aircraft coming from Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris. It's a major, major highlight!! - Also, it wasn't every day but appeared like every other day...there's a majestic KLM airplane flying in from Amsterdam that's a sight to see! KLM is so recognizable in its vintage blue coloring it's like a signature sight racing right over Maho Beach that everyone recognizes! And best of all, when KLM departs back to Amsterdam, you get to witness it take flight right in front of your own eyes from Maho Beach. It's a blissful experience that cannot be duplicated!!! One thing...when Air France departs back to Paris, it starts down at the other end of the runway far from Maho Beach so you don't get to watch its engines ignite unfortunately, but you do get the most amazing flyover departure that again...can't be replicated. Lol, I have more to say.... - For the middle of April, it was so hot. I'm from South Florida and it felt like a brutal 90 degree summer day, almost every day. Good thing when there's no plane flyovers, you can hop in the waters to pass the time. - I was also surprised that the beach wasn't so busy for April. I had enough room for videos and picture taking to not feel bombarded by strangers. I had researched that when cruise ships are docked at port here in St. Maarten, Maho Beach can get packed. But that wasn't the case at all during my 4 day visit. - There are beaches all over the island of St. Maarten and yet, I found here at Maho Beach to have some of the most colorfully turquoise blue waters. Only problem is...if you're looking for peace and quiet to relax on the sand, you're not going to get it here. But if you love planes, you get the bonus scenic surroundings which makes for the magical setting! - There are cool, little tropical restaurants right beside Maho Beach. I had dinner at two of them. First off, and what is the famous restaurant here is Sunset Bar and Grill. You can grab drinks and dinner, watch the perfect St. Maarten sunset and of course catch plane arrivals right over the beach. Food and drinks were reasonably priced, surprisingly not overpriced. The other restaurant is the Driftwood Bar and Grill, which is the same type of vibe as Sunset Grill, but not nearly as big and touristy. And the views aren't as spectacular as it is from Sunset Grill. - Btw, to be kept up to date with all the arrivals and departures, go to www.sxmairport.com for the day's info and what you can expect so you can be prepared. In the end, what else can I say about Maho Beach? I had the time of my life. The experience lived up to every expectation I had. If you love planes and traveling, then you MUST come here to Maho Beach on the island of St. Maarten.

Super cool tourist attraction. This place was featured in a lot of magazines and movies, the beach is right next to the airport where jumbo jets have blown people off the beach into the water. To be honest it's quite dangerous. And according to our taxi driver, just recently a Canadian woman was blown off and killed. The jumbo jets takes off away from the beach so the power of the Jets actually is very noisy and cause a huge racket. The beach is actually quite beautiful nice beautiful water a nice white sandy beach. Good for a quick visit, but still very dangerous so be careful.

Beautiful small beach! Main attraction the sxm airport sits directly behind beach.. if you get there at the right time you could possibly see a jumbo plane preparing to land. It hovers so close it seems you could almost touch the plane while sitting on the beach! It was so hot .. this activity was not my idea of fun, for many others they waited and waited for the photo op?!?! Be careful the engines are so powerful he blast blows you around and also the sand. As I said not my idea of a good time but I can imagine many left with a once and a lifetime picture!

A must see while on the island - although it was not at all what we expected. The beach is very small and right on the road. You gotta get your plane selfie though! Get drinks at the bar and walk over when you see a plane coming in.

Truly unique beach located at the end of Runway #10 of the Juliana Airport on the Dutch side of Sint Maarten. It is not a huge beach; but the sand is almost white & very fine. The water is crystal clear & a beautiful shade of shade turquoise. The most amazing thing about this public beach is that since it is right next to the airport; you can watch planes arrive and depart all day long! The views are amazing; especially if you are an aircraft enthusiast.....but if not it's still a pretty cool place to visit while in Sint Maarten. The planes fly so low you can watch them descend and land. It's also easy to get the flight schedule so you know when to get your camera ready. (You can even find out the specific airline, type of plane, etc.). You really feel the planes flying right overhead, and it gives you a great breeze! The planes that are departing are just across the street behind a fence. There are warning signs posted all around because the engines can literally knock you off your feet and blow you across the street! Tourists have been injured and even killed because they go right up to the fence; ignoring the signs! I stayed on the beach and never went across the street to the fence and you really feel the engine blast from the beach as well! My husband had his hat blown off & the sand really blasts you! (It is like a slightly painful exfoliation treatment!) I don't know if I would want to make this my regular beach, there are so many other beautiful, serene beaches on the island; but it is definitely a "must visit" place if you are traveling to Sint Maarten on vacation because there is no other beach quite like it! There are also 2 Caribbean-themed restaurants/bars on each end of the beach; the famous Sunset Bar & Grill and the lesser known Driftwood Boat Bar. Both have large menus and cold drinks. You can sit at one of the bars and enjoy the takeoffs/landings without direct sun & blasting! I loved this beach and it was one of my favorite experiences in Sint Maarten!

    Jessica M.

A different experience for sure! Sitting in the water having planes lane nearly feet above your head is a must have! We also stood closer to the strip at the top of the beach and the take offs, though the sand and jet blast is strong it is worth it!!

I just started parking on the Irmo side, parking to left of guard house is free. On a weekend I can see this lot filling up quickly it's not a lot of spaces free. I do think this side is more stretching friendly than the Lexington side. Speaking of Lexington side I always parked there with larger overflow lot but there was construction there last time that closed half the spaces. The walkway across dam is wide enough for about three people walking side by side but for runners it can get hard to pass the more populated. I've seen roller skaters out there, strollers, dog walkers although there is no grass only concrete so pick up the doo. The mileage is about 3.4 miles across and back; there isn't any man made shade except the short barrier wall between lake and walkway. If you come during the day will be in full sun so recommend morning or evening for shadier walks/runs. It's an easy run across, is windy certain spots so make sure hat is tight or you will lose it. Worth visiting.

First and foremost, I must say that it was simply awesome to see the signature water sculpture flowing and spinning again. That alone went a long way in restoring the signature feel of the park. Furthermore, I absolutely loved the landscaping below the fountain, which consisted of a small stream running through some perfectly manicured rocks and bushes. In addition to the landscaping, I absolutely loved the modern artwork that was incorporated into the park. There was a beautiful yet funky mural that was created by a Columbia-raised artist, and the park also had some really cool 21st-century sculptures, most of which directly represented the state of South Carolina and the city of Columbia. The park also had a really cool calisthenic workout station, which looked perfect for a complete bodyweight workout session, as well as pickleball courts that anybody can play on. Moreover, although I do not have children myself, the park looked like the perfect place for kids to run around for hours and hours. From what I could see, there was a huge climbing platform, two (2) enormous slides, multiple sets of different types of swings, and, what appeared to be a hill that the kids could slide down using burlap sacks. 10-year-old me would have marveled at the quality of this playground! Finally, there was a huge platform stage to hold concerts on, and a nice, well-manicured plain of grass for attendees to watch and enjoy on. All-in-all, I can't say enough good things about the re-opening of Finlay Park, and I'll be excited to come back for days and years to come!

One full bed and one set of bunk beds. One small dorm-type refrigerator and a small microwave. One thing I learned quick was to not run the microwave while the refrigerator is also plugged in as the breaker will trip. So I unplugged the refrigerator whenever I needed to use the microwave. The refrigerator will hold several bottles of water, ham, cheese, mayo, etc. I also brought some soup and a soup mug to use in the microwave. Also to note, it's about a 30-45 second walk to the bath house, at least from cabin 3. The bed wasn't horribly uncomfortable. I had my pillows and sleeping bag from home and was quite comfortable. The little Gree mini-split unit kept the cabin at a great temperature. Now for the not-so-good things. First, a metal roof surrounded by trees, some of which were dropping acorns. Large acorns hitting a metal roof from high up make a very loud BANG when they hit the roof. Quite the scare in the middle of the night. That's my only complaint. There was a nice little front porch and a picnic table with fire pit close by. I must say it was a great weekend away from the hustle and bustle of life. I'm still giving this review 5 stars. We simply called or stopped by the office. I'm sure it would have been much harder had it been summer but because we were there in April, it worked out wonderfully. Having a larger rig, I tried to do some initial research on sites. There are a few photos on the internet and with the help of Google Earth, I had an idea of the campground layout prior to arrival. We reserved a site as we were guests of our daughter, who was graduating Army Basic Training. We extended our stay as she was going to be staying at Fort Jackson for her AIT and as it worked out, we got to spend some time with her once she arrived at AIT (the following weekend after graduation). As far as the campground, it was wonderful! The staff keeps the trash picked up and the sites clean. The sites have poured concrete pads with modern hook-ups. The roadway around the sites is gravel. We tow a 40' RV and the only issue we had with the road is the gravel in front of our site was washed out due to rain. This made it a bit tough backing into our site. Thankfully, the site across from us was unoccupied so it made it a bit easier to back in. Had we angled in, the ruts would have been a bit of an issue but not impossible. All the hook-ups were great. The site numbers are well marked and were easy to find. Electric was modern and the pedestal was lit for use after dark. The water hookup was at the base of the electric pedestal and the sewer connection was next to that. The site was level and had a nice pad off to the side which contained a coated metal picnic table and grill. To date, it's the nicest site we've stayed in during our years of camping. Depending on your site and the length of your rig, you may want to decide which road to enter and from which direction. The roads in the campground are not one way, so your entry will be determined on the angle of the site in relation to the road. If you have a site across from you, someone could have a vehicle parked near the roadway so there could be some challenges backing into a site if it's directly across from another which is in use. I saw a few folks drive around, formulating a plan prior to occupying their site. We did not use the facilities but did walk around the campground and boat launch area. There are several very nice cabins on the water that can be rented. It appeared as if their decks overlooked the water. All of the RV sites were in great condition. There were a few tent campers in those designated areas. Many folks had pets and the campground was pretty active during nice weather with folks walking their pets and just getting some exercise. Within walking distance are the boat launch area and also the main office and beach area. There is a nice playground for children near the campground. A very family friendly location and again, everything appeared well maintained. There are lots of pine trees that give some shade from the sun but after a long winter, those rays were welcomed. We found our drive time from our campsite to For Jackson Gate 4 (Exit 15), which you use for attending Family Day and Graduation was about a 20-25 minute drive. From our campsite to Gate 2 (Exit 12) was a bit closer and an easy drive for getting onto Fort Jackson otherwise. There is a Gate 5 close to the campground but we did not use that. The hours were limited and being guests, we used Gate 2 and 4 as directed. There are several fuel stations that you pass on the way to the campground. We also used laundry facilities about 15 minutes away from the campground. There is a Food Lion nearby for groceries. We ended up needing some propane and used U-Haul down a few exits from Fort Jackson. The staff were outstanding and made our stay so very enjoyable. The campground is near the training sites so you will hear some automatic gunfire from time to time. Being on the lake, you'll hear a few boats but our experience was, the campground was very quiet and we slept great at night. Thanks to the staff for all your help in getting us a site and allowing us to extend to spend a few more days with our Soldier. Our entire experience was extremely memorable and we are thankful for the opportunity to stay and play. This campground is for military members both current and retired, along with their friends and family. And best of all, you can't beat the price!!!

Our first one and a half days we were here, because hurricane Matthew had come through here, our hot water smelled like rotten eggs which reeked through the house. I called the company and they told me to run the water out of the hot water heater which made the smell even worse. Don't you think a management company should have come prior to our rental to do this? There were also some ceiling lights that were burnt out and had not been replaced. Their housekeeping company leaves a little to be desired. Remember all surfaces, including glassware left on shelving, needs to be dusted. Also, the wood flooring on the sides of the carpeted steps needed a desperate cleaning. Appliances were outdated. There was no ice nor ice cube trays to use to make ice. We own a condo in Myrtle Beach and rent it out when we are not there and our management company would never stand for this. We also found out after we got here that there was no internet service. They have a little visitor center when you can buy a bunch of souvenirs, snacks, and can get a stamp in your SC state parks passport. If this review was solely on the trails and beauty, it would be a 5/5 but unfortunately the campsite brings it down a bit. The campsite is on the larger side, and has 3 bathhouses to accommodate the area (close to you). You are given the basics like a picnic table & fire ring. Sites 1-29 have 20/30/50 amps, and 36-84 have 20/30 amp electric hookups. Sites 1-9 are full service (also have sewer). These sites do not give you a lot of privacy, and it seems like they built as many sites as they could in a confined area instead of spreading the sites out a bit to give the camper a bit more privacy. The bathhouses are clean, but are very dated and are in desperate need of a renovation. If you are not a camper, you will be charged an entrance fee of $6 if you are an adult, $3.75 for seniors (65+), or $3.50 for children (6-15). Overall, a 5/5 for the beauty of the park and amenities outside of the campsite, but 2/5 for the campsite itself.
