It was an early morning so everyone was tired but we got some tubing in and enjoyed the scenery of Lake Murray! This is definitely a spot we will come back to during the summer, a house rental and a little getaway from the busyness of Charleston. The staff on the south shore was always so pleasant and relax at the same time helpful and very knowledgeable. Made us feel like we mattered. The Irmo side a whole different story. Just think the opposite. Staff unpleasant controlling dismissive and arrogant make us feel like we are an inconvenient to their day. If we didn't commit to a 18 month membership and would lose out on the month fee for the next 11 months we would drop the membership today. We just hope they open south shore soon.

We have camped here twice, once in the fall and this time in late March. Both were unique in their own way with the fall trip taking the cake. On both trips the morning sun greeted us ablaze with colors only to be rivaled by its sunset as the long day closed upon us. Beautiful. Serene. The camping reservations are easy through the SC website and the prices very reasonable. Most sites have a view of the lake and several are right on it. We did notice this time (spring) that several locals booked their family vacation here during spring break. Sadly, several lugged all their crap from home with them: refrigerators, large grills, full-size kitchen ovens, awnings, boats, golf carts, bikes, dogs, and kids. The center of the campground looked like a hillbilly hoedown. People were kind and respectful, but damn, it's camping people! Overall, we like it here and we will return. Got the campfire just a smokin' on my "Give 'em a whirl" meter. Camp here (just leave your sh*t at home).

Also, these kayaks have adjustable seats that sit up high. The other company has seats that are molded into the kayak and not adjustable (i.e. uncomfortable). This was my deciding factor when choosing a company to book with. Billy, the owner is very knowledgeable about the area, the Congaree, and the wildlife. They are prepared with life jackets, waterproof containers and even ponchos if needed. We had a great time, even on our unseasonably cold day.

I visited the Irmo Community Park today to attend the 47th Okra Festival. This is a two day…read morefestival. I was a vendor this year, this was a huge success. Lots of foot traffic and people visiting my table. It is a very well maintained public park, and they have paved walking paths. There is also a hard standing building in the park that has both a male and female restrooms. Bathroom where maintained and clean. This park also has plenty of trees which allows you to excercise under the shade of the trees. Lots of vendors selling a large variety of items and food. Check the website for the entertainment line up. Security and the ambulance where in site for our safety, very much appreciated. This will be a yearly event for me to attend.
