My review is for my experience on a Friday. Not sure what it's like on a Saturday but Friday's are basically visits to the museum. Do people not go out on Fridays anymore? A little bit let down especially with all the hype about this place my whole life. Parking was easy and plenty. First thing I notice is the smell of barn. It's only outside and it's fine it makes it authentic so if you're not used to the smell it might be a bit too much. So I personally got a bit confused with the entrance only because exit and entrance are in two different spots. It didn't help there were two guys outside telling us it was the way in but it wasn't. You must go in the glass door entrance. So then you pay your entry at the box office and go up a ramp. The walls were covered in celebrity handprints. Wall after wall, this was like visiting a museum. The place is mostly made of wood and it has its character. There are lots of step ups and downs not good for the people who had one too many. There were two live bands it was fun but the place was kind of empty for what I'm used to. There was an arena for the rodeo but it wasn't in use that night. It was same weekend as stock show so maybe that's why. The restrooms were clean maybe again because it was kind of empty. Two things I did not like. One grumpy bartender and the security babysitting the dance floor made things awkward. They weren't allowing some couples to do their moves. I know for safety reasons but the dance floor had plenty of room. read more

My best friend and i had a great time watching Josh Turner at the 11/20 show. We were worried about social distancing but after checking the website we felt safe in coming. This was a TERRIBLE choice. We were sitting directly across from a group that we didn't know at the same table. Forget 6 feet we were literally a less than a foot from them. Of course we were eating and drinking which in turn means not wearing masks. We both tested positive for Covid 19 the next week. As a responsible adult I called Billy Bob's and asked to speak to a manager so they could notify the attendees. They took my number and claimed they would reach back out here we are a week later with no callback or care for those that were at the venue on Friday. I really hope they are shut back down since they feel the health of those that spend money with them doesn't matter. read more

The World's Largest Honky Tonk! This place is enormous. Everything's bigger in Texas, and that's certainly true with this bar. I've never been in a larger bar in my life. I've heard it's 100,000 square feet of bar, and 20 acres of parking. Huge. You could maneuver an airplane in here it's so big. They have indoor bull riding on weekend nights! For a few extra bucks, you can see the cowboys compete for a purse on angry bulls. These bulls always have names like "Master of Time" or "Widow Maker." They have a number of different dance floors, with a large stage for major acts. They've hosted anyone who's anyone in Country and Western music! Be sure to check out all the guitars and autographed photos of musicians on the way in. The list of celebrities who have been here is astounding. They have their own little "casino" where you can't win any money, just prizes on little games, like where you try to make the machine push quarters off a ledge for tickets. They serve up some food here for hungry music fans- of course, it's BBQ. On the way out, be sure to stop by the gift shop. They have t-shirts, shot glasses, cowboy hats, bumper stickers- anything you need to outfit yourself in some country gear. This place is legendary. It's the honky tonk central. The beer is cheap, and Lone Star Beer flows like water. Billy Bob's is located right in the stockyards of Cow Town. If you ask me, it's the best place in the Metroplex to catch a live country show. read more

But it's a honky tonk...a bar...c'mon people have a brain cell. I'm drunk. That half-naked stripper girl is drunk. That guy starting the fight is drunk. The band up on the stage is drunk. You--dancing on the dance floor with your kids to inappropriate music upset that all the drunk people are bumping into you--can get way on over it and take your inbred hobo children out to the car and drive back to your hotel. Bring them during the day when the rodeo is going on then LEAVE. *gets off soap box* Ahem--the review. I like Billy Bob's. I go here once a year. I drink a beer. (I'm not really drunk). I play slug bug replaing the Volkswagon Beetle with girls wearing either mini-skirts or short-shorts with cowboy boots (my arm STILL hurts). I dance a few songs. I look at overpriced merchandise. I laugh at sleezy girls who ride the mechanical bull sans proper underpinnings and integrity. It's a good time. It probably is only 3 stars but I had my fun goggles on. read more

While waiting for the shuttle back to our hotel, we went back for a drink... we were kicked out bc they assumed we were kicked out earlier... This was my first time to a honky tonk! I was very excited, but I was left disappointed. The first thing we did was try to win a foam cowboy hat from the giant claw machine. We were able to grab a hat on all 3 attempts before it dropped while being reeled in. I swear the thing was rigged. $6 down the drain. Then, my friend and I went to an enclosed booth to record ourselves karaoking for $5. After selecting a song, the machine said it was recording but there weren't words on the screen nor music playing. So that ended up being a bust, another $5 down the drain. We were excited to see live bull riding. It was $3 to watch a 10 minute show. $3 really isn't much but it wasn't worth it. None of the bull riders were able to stay on the bull longer than 10 seconds. These guys were supposed to be professionals. We were looking forward to participating in line dancing but we found that it occurred at the same time as the bull riding show so we missed it. Our other friends said it wasn't anything special. The live music was entertaining though. Several friends wanted to ride a mechanical bull but there wasn't any. What kind of honky tonk does not have a mechanical bull!? I understand the choices companies are taking during COVID to help with reducing the spread. However, my boyfriend and I were treated extremely poorly at this establishment. We had our masks on except when we were taking sips of our drinks and were harassed by multiple "security" workers. We were standing together separated from the other groups drinking our drinks and were told we would be escorted out if we didn't put our masks on. Not a good venue for concerts unless you pay for up front tickets. Not worth it if you actually want to enjoy the concert. These workers need to approach paying customers with more respect. read more

Have you ever got down with a red red red red red neck? Aww..heck. Yes, we paid a cover charge on a Sunday night. There wasn't a live band but there was plenty of live line dancing...or trying. As a people watcher, I perched up on a stool and entertained myself by watching half of the couples do exactly opposite the instructions. Ohhh, let's ride. They have a fake bull that you can dress like a dork & put yourself in a bunch of ridiculous poses on...or around. If you are from California, be prepared to be called a hippie, with the boys 'round here, drinking the ice cold beer. For a $1, I lost a game of pool but had fun doing it. The bartender was friendly and readily accessible. The drinks were small & fairly weak. I was fascinated by the fact that the world's largest honky tonk doesn't seem to have beer on tap. It's a fun place to wander around and look at; world's largest belt buckle, a stuffed bear, signed posters, past performance photos, bull riding uniforms, arena, etc. There's a bar with tons of signed guitars. One of them had a picture of a long haired, mullet brandishing Blake Shelton in front of it (which made me laugh). Chew tobacco, chew tobaoco, chew tobacco..spit. I'm glad I can say that I did it! This place is a tourist trap. Don't do it! The cover charge was $20 as there was a band no one had heard of . I like almost any kind of music but this was just noise and justification for charging for a concert. We went anyway as we'd heard it was a place you should check out. We found out that the $20 didn't even get you a seat. The people serving drinks weren't bartenders; they were bottle openers. They couldn't do anything else. Really a disappointing experience. I've lived in DFW since I was a kid, but had never been to Billy Bob's somehow. I had an idea of what to expect having been to many similar places in the past, but this was supposed to be the granddaddy of them all. I couldn't have been more disappointed. The place is huge but still feels like you are cramped pretty much everywhere. It takes 30 minutes to get a beer because they aren't adequately staffed, and we spent the majority of our time waiting in line at the bar wondering how much money they'd make on alcohol sales if it didn't take so damn long to get a drink. We went for Sturgill Simpson, and I almost instantly regretted not driving to Austin to see this at Stubb's a couple days later. They cram as many tables into the reserved section to maximize the income, and make sure that everyone who bought a ticket is miserable. Everyone at the table had to stand so that anorexic females could somehow squeeze between the table and chairs to their spot. If you were a grown man, you looked at this setup, said "to hell with that" and just went to stand in General Admission. Which was SUPER PACKED because apparently purchasing a GA ticket is just for morons who don't know that they won't even check for these at the show. Just cram all the humanity in that we can. I didn't see much of Sturgill. I saw a lot of (3) support beams in the way, as well as a TV screen. The television might have helped had it not looked like they were showing a replay of a concert recorded on VHS in 1984. Really, if we could have just heard him it would have been fine. But my per-wee football team showed up on Saturdays packing 5x sound system Billy Bob's has. We left before it was completely over to avoid the stampede, but noticed that once you were outside...you could actually hear the lyrics and everything. Like that last kick in the butt before we drove away. I will never ever ever ever buy a ticket for a show at this venue again. It's a tourist trap where Dave and Buster's meets a honky tonk, meets a rodeo, meets a bar, meets the worlds worst stage, lighting, and sound. I had to burn the close I wore as apparently this is the final place on the map to allow indoor smoking. I'll go see Sturgill again. In Austin or Dallas. But I wouldn't accept free tickets to the Beatles Reunion if it were held at Billy Bob's Texas. I've been to well over a hundred of shows at countless venues. This was the worst sound I've experienced, and I've been everywhere from the smallest Lubbock club to the biggest stadium with the worst sound...Never have a felt as duped as I did when I saw the setup at Billy Bob's. Take a lap to people watch, compare your hand size to the greats (I guess I have HUGE hands), people watch. And then get out of there before the cigarette smoke clings to your every molecule. This place is HUGE! Lots of pool tables, space to dance, tall tables to sit and enjoy, games to play, an arena to watch some bull riding. I have never seen anything like this. It was a ton of fun and really cool to hang out here on my birthday. It was definitely something that I NEVER would have done before. The only complaints I have: 1. SO smoky. Eww. Seriously they need a better ventilation system in there. 2. The night I was there Dwight Yokum was playing and we couldn't even see him. We were sold tickets for $20 per person and he was in a separate room that we couldn't even see him. We were sold general admission tickets so I assumed we would at least be able to see him. I am not a big fan or anything but if you are selling GA tickets for $20 each you should tell the buyer that you can hear him but not see him. It was really weird. read more

Billy Bob's is coined as the worlds largest honky tonk and saloon and for that, it does not disappoint! The sheer size of this place is impressive. A main stage for concerts, a huge dance floor for dancing, a small arena for live bull riding, all amongst many bars. There's a $2 cover charge- I assume to keep people from just wandering in here and setting up camp. We were there in the afternoon and it was pretty dead. The bar seems a bit lacking in drink selection- and also they don't serve drafts. Smoking is allowed in here (seems like in most Texas bars) which limits my desire to stay very long. One nice feature was that there was a redbull sponsored charging station that had various phone cords available to plug in to. My friend and I took advantage of that! I imagine this would be a fun place to attend a concert or enjoy some billiards in the evening time. read more

Simply enormous. It just goes on and on and on in every direction. Beware the snack bar. It was around 1 p.m. and we asked for the nachos which are on the menu. Nope. They were all out of queso (Texan for cheese sauce). Ok, well, whatever, give us the fries and some other fried things. A couple minutes later we overheard the cook tell the cashier, oh, I guess you can make nachos with shredded cheese! No, really? About an hour later we saw a handwritten sign hanging over the register: "Closed Until 5 p.m. for Staff Meeting." Wow, that is a really long staff meeting for the short order cook. And good luck if you are hungry between 2 and 5 p.m. The kitchen is closed. Sheer comedy. $2 admission just to get in. Lots of interesting memorabilia on the walls. Would I go back? Visited from out of town and had a blast at this place! This is a huge Texas-style bar complex with indoor rodeo arena, live music and tons of games. Staff was extremely upbeat and into the Texas style theme. The brisket here was amazing. We even did a little line dancing. I highly recommend for a stereotypical Texas experience. I've been in Texas for seven years and it's taken me this long to get here. It's a Texas tradition - I'd say everybody should go at least once. We got there around 7pm and it was all ages - as young as 2 yrs old. Babies in bars... it surprised me but there they were with their little cowboy hat and boots. There's a gift shop when you first come in. There's a stuffed bull people can take pictures with. It's a touristy spot. There is a bbq restaurant and a pizza place on the other side. If you forget your cowboy hat, they sell those. There's also a gift shop. There are several bars. Theres a small dance floor. I was surprised it wasn't bigger. The entire place was huge. There's plenty of parking for $5 and I t's waking distance to shopping. Travis Tritt was in concert. The floor near the stage was reserved seating. We could still get a pretty clear view from each side above the floor. The acoustics weren't that great. I would expect that since they have concerts here, the sound system would just sound a better. The right side of the stage sounded like the speaker may have been busted. I've only been to Red River a couple of times. I'm not a real big country bar girl but I think the dance floor at RR was actually bigger. The dance floor at RR was bigger than Billy Bob's from what I recall. It's a smaller venue, but I recall the music sounding better / clearer at red river. The bonus is that it's closer to home. Again, everyone should experience this at least once. read more

Had tickets to the Trace Adkins concert. Great show. Trace sounded good. I say sounded cause we had our seats located behind a support pole that blocked the center of the stage. Guess where Trace has his mic stand set. Yep, dead center stage. No where in the tickets did it mention seats were an obstructed view. Their really needs to be spelled out on all affected seats. This place is huge! The night I went was dead, and the headliner that played was not very lively with a very slow piano solo at about 11pm, clearing the 3/4 couples from the dance floor. Expecting a lot more people inside The Worlds Largest Honky Tonk! We decided not to leave, because we paid $14 to get it, and it should get busy at some point, but it didn't. The drinks were more expensive then the other bars around, and we were overall disappointed and underwhelmed. On a busy night, I can see how awesome this place could be, we just didn't see that. At about 1:45am the bar announced it was closing as expected, so I headed towards the restroom, prior to leaving. Well...first piece of advice...don't go early. We had a late appointment and stopped in at around 6:30 on a Tuesday. There was only a few people walking around and the house band was practicing. The website makes the place look like a restaurant and honkey tonk. Realistically it's a honkey tonk bar with bull riding that serves a little food. I'm not overly impressed during the day. "Underwhelmed" is an understatement. Ever since I first heard Roger Clyne & the Peacemaker's 2005 album "Live at Billy Bob's Texas", I have wanted to experience the venue in person. I have patiently waited for someone worthy of my initial Billy Bob's visit to be on the schedule and no one is more worthy than Ryan Bingham. The place was sold out and packed to the gills. Ryan and his band rose to the occasion and sounded fantastic. Supposedly, there was no smoking in the seated section but neither the people puffing away on all sides of me nor the acid-rain inducing clouds billowing from the standing sections appeared to hear that announcement. My girlfriend's eyes swelled up from her contacts reacting badly to the cigarette smoke, but despite being in pain she was a sport and tried to hold out as long as she could. We were in the last table in our column and, between the TCU students standing up waiving UT horns and the groups of lurkers walking back and forth, we had terrible sight lines. Great artists play in too many other small great venues in the DFW area to put myself or Gal Pal through that again. read more

A few years back on a trip to Pennsylvania I went to a purported Texas Steakhouse in Allentown. It was the first time I had ever seen a baked sweet potato on a menu. Just after the meal a David Allen Coe tune played, the table was cleared, and the waitress got on the table and danced to the music. If that was a stereotype of a Texas joint then Billy Bob's invented the concept. Gift shop, worlds largest belt buckle, mechanical bull, bull riding photos, BBQ restaurant, concert venue, pool hall, arcade, and conference center. Not counting stalls in the mens bathroom are no fewer than 27 urinals. The wife and I enjoyed the air conditioning on a hot day shooting a couple games of pool; taking in the spectacle was more like it. It was lunchtime and the place was not even near capacity and I'm really happy about that. I can imagine a decent music act and this place would be stuffed to the walls. Anybody who complains about not having good time here might just not know how to enjoy themselves. There had to have been a thousand or more enjoying themselves when I went, and there were still more pouring in the doors as the night went on. So its not going to be the fanciest five star restaurant - nobody said it was supposed to be. But there's enjoyable food and drink, the dancing and music are captivating. There were lots of people smiling and having a good time. It was a nice crowd too. It was relaxing. There are lots of things to capture interest of a first time visitor, but it was obvious that there were a lot of local regulars too. Some of the dancers' moves were amazing to watch! Since my son-in-law had never been to Texas, I felt it my duty to take him to some of the more "Texas" places I could think of. And so, Billy Bob's seemed like a good idea. We were a bit shocked when we heard it was going to cost $16 to enter. Until we realized that was because of the Cole Swindell concert going on that night. We paid the fee and wandered inside. They were blown away by the immense size of the place. So huge, so many bars to choose from, so many people. We were sort of disappointed there was an extra fee to watch the bull-riding. Seems like that could be involved. And the beer was really expensive. But I guess maybe that's to be expected. Anyway, those are the only two reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5. read more

We ended up missing the Josh Abbott concert that Friday night and we were both super bummed. I contacted Billy Bob's and they were gracious enough to let us use our Friday night tickets to attend Saturday night which was super awesome of them. In addition, the bartenders were friendly and so was everyone working there that we interacted with. We both had so much fun at the concert dancing and playing pool after. I love this place. This place is a site to be seen. Slightly off the main corner of the stockyards (ask someone if you can't find it), you'll find a giant bar, event hall (honky tonk?), wild fun place which is part cowboy, part country and all Texas. The place almost looks like what you'd expect from the main floor of a Texas themed Vegas hotel. Many bars, a mini rodeo ring, a mechanical bull, souvenir store, lights dance floor and booze. In the back section, which is also massive, is a large pot full of tables and another stage where I'm sure they run all their shows. After hearing it is the largest "Honky Tonk" in the world, we drove for over an hour to take our daughter ( visiting for the holidays) out for the night. After waiting in line for half an hour, we were told we were in the wrong line. If we hadn't pre-purchased tickets, we had to go around the building and wait in another line. We finally enter the bar to EXTREMELY loud punk rock music. Screaming is a much better description of what was taking place. We couldn't understand a word of the "music". It was very difficult to endure. I saw no one banging their heads to the beat or moshing to the band. It seemed to me that even if anyone there DID like this music, they didn't care for THIS band. Finally the music stopped and the bar was silent. Yes, NO music at a bar for at least half an hour. It was a gift, to me. I was glad the screaming stopped. We paid $120 for 3 people to get in for PIT? Tickets. That's on us. We left by 10:15 and went to the "Stock Yards". Our daughter had a fun night there. Young, college age kids having a lot of fun. We might try Billy Bobs again, just make sure they have a country band playing before you go. read more

I always bring my friends who are new to Texas to Billy Bob's and The Stockyards and Joe T Garcia's. Growing up, I loved coming here because general admission tickets have always been super cheap. The venue hosts all kinds of famous musicians. I've seen Willie Nelson, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Miranda Lambert, Reckless Kelly, Pat Green, Clay Walker, Stoney LaRue, Turnpike Troubadours, and Pat Benetar here. Probably seen a handful of other artists here... The acoustics are hit or miss. Last night, I couldn't understand anything Evan Felker was saying between songs. If my seats are front and center, I can hear just fine. This time we were at the back left in reserved seating, and it was difficult to hear. Still, cheap tickets and great musicians make it worthwhile to endure all the touristy elements. I always have an allergy attack here, triggered by all the cigarette smoke and rodeo dust. Well, the employee (female, short, glasses, colored hair) harassed my friend for being out of state and was extremely rude (making comments, no eye contact, deep sighs and obviously annoyed to be working here). You really need to get rid of this lady... she is on a massive power trip and feels so bad about herself she needs to go after people just trying to have a good time. We ended up leaving because her demeanor really brought down the vibe. Apparently this has happened on several occasions with some of my other friends who related to my experience with her. Our Fifth wedding anniversary, I buy Mike Ryan concert tickets on Billy Bob's website for 200.00. When we arrive, we are not allowed onto the concert floor because our tickets were only general admission...which only cost $35. The tickets that I bought online said we had seats. We were informed that this is a problem they are aware of, but they could Not do anything about it because a third party was involved((((( BuyerBeware))))! Other than this costly lesson we had a good time people watching, drinking and dancing. The concert could be seen on multiple televisions throughout the venue so it was not a complete bust. read more
