For context: my barber--the GOAT--Castullo is the owner of this shop, and it's truly an honor to be the first Yelp review here.
I'm in my mid-30s, and Castullo has been cutting my hair since I was 14 years old. I'm a Bronx/Mosholu native, born and raised, until I moved to Florida in 2016. That's the backstory, so don't judge the bias too quickly.
Any real New Yorker knows how important a fresh cut is with clean hairlines, sharp fades, and staying on point weekly or bi-weekly for work and life. Castullo has been consistent from day one, and honestly, he's only gotten better with time. I wish I had the money to fly him down to Florida regularly but that alone tells you how good he is.
He's the type of barber who takes his time and truly cares about every client. The cuts never fail. I'm grateful to see how, as he's gotten older, he's also gotten wiser, professionally and spiritually. This shop stood strong even through the pandemic, which says a lot. And if you don't know, Castullo has clients from all over the country, especially the tri-state area, who still make it a point to see him whenever they're back in town.
Key note: if you're getting a haircut with Castullo, it's best to save his number and either call or check in with him. He'll put you in line and will actually call you back when you're next, so you're not sitting around the shop waiting forever. And if you don't mind waiting, Jerome Ave has plenty of good food spots to chill at until it's time for your cut.
Also helpful to know: the building itself has the address, but the barbershop is located on the bottom right side of the building, facing the street. Easy to miss if you don't know, so keep an eye out.
The vibe here is clean, peaceful, and nothing like the chaotic barbershops you're used to. Even though it's a smaller space, it delivers top-tier quality. Other barbers and neighbors highly speak about Castullo and his team, and for good reason.
I usually get a mid or high taper, and it's always on point.
Castullo, thank you. I'll always be getting a cut from you whenever I'm back in NY.
To anyone reading this: don't take my word for it. Come through and see for yourself how good Castullo and his team really are.
