Good value overall, with Sunday Roast having excellent flavour. Both the beef and pork were quite tasty, with the potatoes and veg being particular stars of the plate. Nice starter with avocado and feta, and a pleasing cheese plate for pudding. Highly recommended for a filing meal should you find yourself in Amersham for a weekend holiday.

I had the pork belly with all the trimmings. Again absolutely perfect, with the best pork crackling in the world. Staff are friendly and I enjoyed the service. Nice vibe, smart but not overly formal. We did say something to the waitress and she was very apologetic. Then manager came over apologised again and asked if there is anything wrong with the beef. We said it was the veg mainly. The beef was ok but not great. They gave us some free side dishes and desserts. I must say the building and the services were very good. However the chef and food really let this place down. I saw most people left out their veg on their plate when I left. My partner doesn't normally complain about food. So it must be quite bad. You can't cook the potatoes right what's left for a Sunday roast?! It's £20 for the roast so there should be some expectations to it. I gave 2 stars only because the service was good and the complimentary gesture. Otherwise 1 star!

The service and general feel of the place is relaxed and friendly, the menu is largely British in theme and tends to change with the season. They usually have some seasonal game on the menu which I like, their wood pigeon has been excellent the couple of times I've had it. Bel and The Dragons tend to be in interesting buildings and this one is no exception. They renovated the boat house specifically for the restaurant and it's a great setting (albeit not quite as interesting as the Godalming one which is in an old Church). Probably my favourite restaurant in Reading.

We were seated at a cozy booth and our server was attentive. Menu was interesting- various dishes related to various regions in England- it ranged from Duck, to Rabbit, to Steak. We kept it simple and ordered a burger and roast chicken. Hubby loved the burger! It was topped with rarebit, something new to our culinary tastes, but basically is a cheese sauce which consisted of Worcestershire and mustard. Roasted chicken- a fully marinated breast with a side of grilled portobello and a tomato slice. I opted for the side salad instead of chips and my choice of sauce was the gravy. Delicious! I was told to it would take 30 min to cook as it was made fresh, but the dish actually came out in less time! Menu items were a little pricey, but food was beautifully presented and delicious.

My coworkers got the red wine (the last one on the list, can't remember the name but they got a lot if it and took some back to their rooms) My coworker said "I'm in heaven! This is the best tomato soup I've ever had in my entire life!!" The manager said "We grow the tomatoes here!" My other friend said the chicken was sensational. We tried all the desserts on the menu and there wasn't a bad one on there. The ice cream was incredible. My coworkers expressed disappointment that their flight was so early they wouldn't be able to have lunch here with me tomorrow. Best service ever!! The manager came to our table!!

They have brilliant, brilliant food. Definitely a special occasion-type place. We stayed at a nearby B&B (http://www.qype.co.uk/place/234858-Larchdown-Farm-Reading) that recommended we have dinner here. It's a nice old pub with two small rooms and one larger one. There's no room just for drinks, now, as they do a roaring business in lunches and dinners, it seems. It was very dim and romantic on the night I was there (which suited me fine). The menu is extensive. There's lots of choice, and a lot of game, too. The service was top-notch, efficient but quiet. The menu on their website is representative, but not exact. I had a starter of calves' liver with black pudding and tarragon mustard sauce, with a main of rare roe deer fillet. The wine list was good. Desserts were very nice, too, although my only complaint is that the cheese was far too chilled when they served it. Not a big deal, I let it sit a while. Starters in the £8 neighbourhood, and mains around £17-£20. It feels like the sort of place that celebrities hang out in when they're in the country.
