Very popular local Chinese restaurant, that also does takeaway…read more The restaurant itself is fairly small, with half a dozen tables, and the walls are covered in photographs of happy diners. There is a very extensive a la carte menu, with a good selection of vegetarian options, but Monday to Thursday they do a buffet menu for £18.99, which is very popular. (The buffet has relatively fewer vegetarian options.) On our visit we had one portion of large spring rolls and vegetarian spring rolls, followed by chicken and vegetables in ginger, and tofu with vegetables in garlic. Portions were decent though the food itself was a little more bland than I was expecting. The large spring rolls contained sliced ham rather than pork which was disappointing, and neither main was as punchy as we were expecting. It's very good value, though, with two courses and drinks and 10% service charge coming in at under £40 for two people. Service was efficient and very friendly.

Ordered takeaway from this restaurant. Was really enticed seeing the continued great reviews…read more Unfortunately, for me, I found the food a little lacking and not as flavorful as I had hoped. Maybe others will disagree that this food is to their liking but I thought the food was pretty standard run of the mill asian food and unfortunately did not make much impact on me. I will say though, they have great prices and even offer a loyalty program with good rewards. I'd still recommend others give them a chance and determine for yourself.

An excellent Chinese Takeaway. My friends and I had a Yum Yum Chinese Takeaway on New Year's Eve…read more(we had a murder mystery night. Great fun. No, I wasn't the murderer. It was Colin) and I've since been back just 6 days later for another because they're that good (plus I like Chinese food). DISCLAIMER: on New Year's Eve the nice guy at Yum Yum's gave me a free 2009 Wall Calendar (not sure if it was motivated by the holiday spirit or the 100 quid I'd just spent). Whilst I don't think this has influenced my review, in the spirit of good journalism I figured I should probably declare it. The portions are pretty standard size and they come in those foil tubs with cardboard lids, you know, the type of ones you get at a Chinese takeaway. The food itself is very tasty and not particularly greasy like it can be at some Chinese takeaways, which is quite refreshing. It did leave me pretty thirsty though, although this is also common with Chinese food due to the high MSG content (i.e. salt). On New Year's Eve we had the Crispy Duck to start with, which I can highly recommend. The duck arrives whole though, so prepare to carve it yourself. There's also a lot of meat but not particularly a lot of pancakes and very few spring onions/cucumber slices, so if you're ordering the duck I would order a few extra of those if you can. The rest of the food was also very good. Since you asked, the Beef with Mushrooms is my favourite. I wasn't fussed about the Crispy Chili Beef, but then that's just me. It was kind of battered, rather than just crispy strips of beef like it is at some places, so although it was nice it wasn't what I was expecting. The fried rice at Yum Yum's was very good though, which I often find is a good indicator of a takeaway's quality. I mean, some places don't bother too much with the rice (because it's just rice) and make it all stodgy or greasy, but not Yum Yum's! Their rice was top quality. In summary, a very good quality Chinese takeaway which I shall probably be visiting frequently in the New Year (despite my resolutions regarding "the belly").
