As a Black woman, I felt deeply let down and mistreated by this practice. After my daughter had a breast reduction here (with mixed results, it went well, but her breast was not the B cup she requested), I decided to undergo a breast reduction with nipple graft myself, emphasizing to Dr. Stevenson right before my $20,000 surgery that symmetry and size (A cup) were my top priorities. What followed was a nightmare! Despite diligently following all post-operative instructions, I experienced severe bleeding and delayed wound healing. The nipple graft was an absolute catastrophe. I was left with severely scarred, unevenly sized, and horrifically discolored breasts. What was briefly mentioned as a potential for hyperpigmentation turned into a disfiguring reality. When the discoloration failed to resolve after several months, I contacted Dr. Stevenson's office. This is where the unprofessionalism truly began. I was subjected to at least THREE separate, billable VIRTUAL appointments to address concerns that should have been handled without additional fees. During an in-office consultation, Dr. Stevenson led me to believe that insurance approval for a revision surgery was a sure thing, promising a correction of the damage and a boost to my self-esteem. This turned out to be a cruel charade. After initial confusion and misinformation from her (now former) administrative assistant, it became clear that Tricare had denied the request, initially approving only injections that should have been administered immediately after the initial surgery. Another billable virtual appointment with Dr. Stevenson led to a plan to resubmit the request after a 90-day waiting period. When I asked about alternative options, she suggested plastic surgery to "fill in the discolored areas" or a procedure to "cut out the discolored areas" in her office, and then had the audacity to charge me for the latter, claiming it wasn't "minor." Skeptical that Tricare would approve a second breast reduction so soon after the first, I reluctantly waited. Her office failed to follow up, forcing me to initiate contact in early May. After further delays and lack of communication from her staff, a new administrative assistant submitted the request, which was ultimately denied by Tricare. On June 10th, I received a call informing me of the denial (days after I received a letter from Tricare). I requested a self-pay quote for the revision surgery, and as of today, June 18th, I am still waiting. From my perspective, Dr. Stevenson and her staff displayed a shocking lack of care and professionalism. Once they had my/insurance company $20,000, I felt completely devalued as a patient. This experience has been deeply traumatic, and I cannot stress enough how strongly I recommend seeking plastic surgery care elsewhere. Do not trust Dr. Julia Stevenson/Cardinal Plastic Surgery with your health or your money.

I had a medical care appointment and because I asked about previous services and possible treatment...I got charged a consult fee?! My entire appointment lasted less than 15 minutes. I get that providers deserve to be paid but it may be a nice gesture to inform a patient that asking questions will result in an additional fee. Who knew a Dr (PA actually) won't answer questions unless you schedule an appointment for consult?? I get that some patients could take advantage and ask all sorts of medical questions that are unrelated but maybe you use your judgement and bill accordingly?!?!! Ok-so $100 later (and VERY few minutes!!) , I get a call from the compound pharmacy requesting a fee ($65) to make the numbing cream but a trip SEVERAL hours later to CVS where they DONT have my prescription-I had to place a call to the office to find out why my scrip isn't there almost three hours later. I'm told by this office they are still seeing patients and I need to potentially wait 24 hours or more to get my medically necessary prescription?!?!!! WHAT?? So a compound/custom pharmacy gets the scrip for an elected procedure within minutes but the medically necessary scrip ....i need to wait until they've had time?? Everything about this appointment was just bad policy. Except the medically necessary appointment and scrip needs-I did get seen for that. Hopefully in the next few days I can actually pick up my scrip!! Looking for a dermatologist-anyone have a good one??

I am so glad I found a Dr that I trust with my face. My first appointment was last month, check in was a breeze, staff is friendly and they have Covid procedures in place. I had another follow up appointment today, Dr Mc Daniel and Ashley were just as great!!! The entire office is exceptionally clean including the bathroom. I was placed in a large consultation/treatment room where there was a giant air purifier which was nice. Ashley was great, she was his assistant and was very friendly and knowledgeable as well. I felt comfortable and confident in their care which is difficult to find around here in my experience. I have another appointment scheduled with them and will definitely recommend Dr McDaniel and his staff to anyone who needs any type of facial treatment.

The secret with great botox comes from the person holding that needle. Trust me, when you find your "Botox Master", you will be AMAZED at the results and you won't ever want anyone else doing your botox again. My search here in Virginia has led me to experience some bad results. Thus, I decided to find a place where the DOCTOR actually does the administering. This was harder than I thought! I finally found Dr. Guarda and made an appointment. The office was very beautiful and the entire staff were all wonderful, polite and very professional. Dr. Guarda spent a lot of time with me discussing my past botox experiences from what went wrong to what I loved. She is one of few, that believes in the conservative approach. She would rather inject less botox, wait for the results and then have you return if you need more rather than do too much, and have the client left with bad results for months. I loved this about her and agreed! I've have experienced droopy eyelid several times here in Virginia from estheticians doing too much botox, so I really prefer to do less botox up front and then tweak it later with more if needed. Dr. Guarda was never pushy and didn't try to sell me a bunch of products and or services irrelevant to the reason I was there. She just addressed my botox concerns and worked her magic. She did draw up the botox directly in front of me - which I highly recommend to anyone getting botox! You have a right to know you are getting the Botox you are paying for and not the cheaper form. There were no ice packs before/during/after treatment. However, her injections were gentle and I didn't experience any swelling, discomfort or bruising.

It may actually be considered a part of the campus since the Norfolk General complex has been completely "built out" on the original side. The Fort Norfolk location is quite easy to access from most areas in the Southside. Having nothing to do with the building but appealing to my love for history, the area is named for the neighborhood's fully restored War of 1812 era original fort that's still sits overlooking the Elizabeth River as it enters the Harbor. Fort Norfolk protected the Norfolk side with Fort Nelson protecting the Portsmouth side. The latter sat on the current site of the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Sadly, that fort no longer remains, History lesson completed. This is a quite convenient building for those of us who can't walk long distances from parking areas to medical building entrances. The attached parking garage is free if your ticket is validated at the medical practice you are visiting. On each level there are a few Handicapped spaces directly adjacent to the glass enclosed elevator entrances. Seating is available in that area. I've never had a problem finding a space in the parking garage, which offers a picturesque view of the Elizabeth River. The building is filled with medical practices & support facilities. Most offices that I've seen are Sentara practices, I've had wonderful care at Sentara Cardiology Specialists, Sentara Advanced Imaging Center & Sentara Sleep Center. This Medical Center is quite convenient & affords easy access to both parking and elevators. I would highly recommend choosing a medical practice located in this Fort Norfolk Center.
