Climate change is real and beyond its effects on the earth, our housing is subject to all sorts of trials and tribulations from its wrath. The calamity that struck my house was the hail storm. It came with little warning and it was as disconcerting as it was brief as it was violent. When it was over, my screens were shredded and I had some paint damage. Seeing as that was all I could tell with my naked eye, I left it alone and kept it moving. That's when I noticed my neighbors getting roof assessments. I didn't want the headache so I tried to avoid it. But adulting doesn't let you skip out on the unpleasant things so I dove in to seeing what was what. Checking the Jelps, I found Bill Ragan and through Bill Ragan I found Chris. Chris was awesome. He walked me through what I could see and couldn't see. He had ladders, photos and information. He let me see that I sustained damage and needed a fix. When he gave me an estimated cost, I thought, 'I'm just gonna have to let this ride.' That's when he told me that insurance should cover it. Armed with that knowledge, I had an assessor come to the house. I was denied. Chris didn't let that be the end of the story. He convinced me to get an assessor second opinion. This time, he would be at my house when it happened. It did. He was. And I was approved for a new roof. The insurance company cut the check and I was on my way to a secured house cover. If I stopped the review here, it's an easy 5 stars. Chris was/is incredible. Unfortunately, Chris doesn't work on roofs. The crew came out (with Chris to introduce me to them and let me know what to expect) and they didn't share much of his ease, kindness or professionalism. They were unpleasant at best, rude at worst. A gentleman smoked a cigarette while he worked on my roof. The foreman was dismissive and unhelpful when I had questions. I texted Chris, who apologized, came on site and got the folks together but that wasn't his job. The job took two days and the install has held together fine (and the roof looks good). But being treated like trash in my own home is not something I take lightly. The crew did the work in mid-Fall. Thanks to climate change, it was still pretty warm out. Even so, I was preparing for my fall HVAC cleaning when I noticed a gap in the ceiling of my upstairs unit (in the attic). Not only that, connective piping from the unit had come undone in the roof work. I had a HVAC tech come out to fix the problem. He did so and showed me a few other pipe disconnections and gave me a horror story about carbon monoxide poisoning had I run the unit with the gaps and disconnections. Nightmare fuel. I texted the foreman. He went from unbothered to unresponsive. I went back to Chris who asked for photos, came out to inspect and brought Bill into the situation. Bill came out to my house, asked about what happened, listened, doubled checked the work (roof and HVAC) and covered the cost of repair. I appreciated that. And I appreciated Chris. But neither Bill nor Chris should have had to clean up a mess they didn't make. read more

Honest and reliable, we had them inspect and repair a ten year old roof leaking soil stack on our new home. They repaired all four and charged me less than estimated. We chose Bill Ragan over 3 other nashville roofers because they seemed honest, reliable, and I believe they'd be around to honor their warranty and guarantee (not the case for some of the folks who came out to quote.) The roof was replaced by the evening and the area around the house left clean. Bill even came out himself when an inspector thought he was problems. I can't say enough good things about Bill Ragan Roofing. I had a difficult time getting my insurance company to cover roof damage from last winter's storm and I've never had to put in an insurance claim before. Bill was patient, knowledgeable, and worked on my behalf through the whole process. When it was finally approved, the team was efficient and did a fabulous job. Wanted someone local after hail and wind storm. Great communication, responsiveness, patience and owner is involved in the day to day operations. When choosing a new color roof, owner put up samples on the roof so we could see the difference in the colors during different times of the day. I wen to their website and put in an inquiry to get a full roof replacement. I received a email the next day or so, asking if a date scheduled would be ok. I agreed that someone would be home. They arrived and did an inspection on the roof and inside the attic. I was impressed with the attic inspection. Instead of leaving a written estimate at my home, like the others, they left. Soon after they called and said they needed to go over it with me in person. I didn't really want to have a salesman at my home again, that could be a sign of a pushy sales rep. It's importance caused me to agree. He called to confirm for Saturday appointment on Thursday. I said I would be there, but I would be on call for work. I am a maintenance Tech. He then ask if I was going to sign it Saturday. I said I don't have any details on price, scope of work or warranty. He ask what other company I received an estimate from. I told him 2 but I liked one more than the other. The price point was good and the estimate was detailed with all I want. He then, started to slightly slander the company. Saying they don't work up to codes. This put me off. I said I didn't think a company would be in business for over 20 years and not be compliant with the law, or have good reviews. This is a big company. He then said well what if I'm $2000.00 more? I said cost was a factor but if he provided a better product within reason, and not much more , maybe $1000.00 more I would definitely consider using Bill Ragan. He ask more questions and I was at work and said let's talk about it Saturday. NOW It's Saturday. 2:00 p.m., no show , no phone call, no email, no text. I call him from the number he called me, No answer. I am not a happy guy. I have been waiting for hours and could have started my day @9:00a.m.. But here we are. So, the other company is getting my business. I'm not saying don't do business with. Bill Ragan I will say only what I experienced myself. In today's society with reviews, I would have called. I hesitated to have someone come look at my roof because I was certain their goal would be to try and get me to replace my roof. Not only did John do a complete inspection and quickly fix the leaking problem, he identified 3 other issues that would have turned into bigger problems and fixed them at not add'l cost. THEN....he said my roof would last longer if the tree limbs weren't touching it. I know he's right but had not wanted to get on the roof to take care of that issue. Wow... This Company is incredible! Here's why, and my story... I own a 1920 bungalow, in the Vanderbilt/Hillsboro Villiage area, which needed a new roof. I was referred to Bill Ragan Roofing, and another roofing company, which I requested bids for a new roof. I wanted to assure my roofing bids were in the right ball park. The quotes I got were within $100 of each other, but the salesman's quote from Bill Ragan Roofing, also included new 6" gutters at the front of the house, and screen covers (to keep the leaves out of the gutters). After talking with the salesman at Bill Ragan Roofing (who also has the same name as the company), I decided to go with his bid, as he seemed like a very honest, professional, down to earth type of guy. He also expressed his concern that if I wasn't happy, then he wasn't happy, either. This comment was reiterated several times during the 1.5 day roofing project, as he wanted to be sure I was happy through the whole process. These comments, and follow-up, really demonstrated his commitment to customer service, which is hard to find these days! Through this roofing project, I didn't want to go through any horror stories with this new roof, since this house was almost 100 years old, so I needed to choose the right contractor. I think I found the right company and the right guy, in Bill Ragan, and his roofing company. In the end, some of the decking needed replacement, but the outcome is magnificent! I've got a beautiful roof, with confidence that the hand nailed shingles (Bill Ragan Roofing does not use pneumatic nail guns) will last a long, long time! I felt I was treated very fair, and Bill Ragan Roofing over performed in their customer service, as well as the actual work being performed. Every detail was taken care of, and above my expectations! Had Bill Ragan Roofing come out to look at a roof leak. He (Bill Ragan) said that it would be a couple weeks before he could get to it. Four weeks go by without any contact, so I sent him a text. He indicated that he hasn't forgotten about me, and used the excuse that there's been so much rain in the forecast. Okay, so another four weeks go by, and not a peep. I text him again, but no response. Mind you, if I have a roof leak, and it's raining, there's going to be MORE damage. There's a TRUST issue going on here, with Bill Ragan Roofing. If he actually came to my house, inspected the leak, and told me he would take care of it, yet decides to ignore me, and NOT do what he said he would do, deserves whatever bad publicity is given. It's just not how you treat people (and run a business). In fact, he and I picked some fresh vegetables from my garden that day he was here, and took them home. All would be okay, if he told me he's too busy, and wouldn't be able to get to it. Instead, he strung me out, making me believe he would get to it, while the leak got worse and caused damage in my house. Ragan has been my go-to for all things roof and leak repairs. My husband and I have always felt they've been honest and have done a great job. I really don't know what has transpired, but I can't get a call back. We had the guys out to check out a leak around our chimney. They found several other issues up on our roof and had a quote sent to us by Andrea. I responded saying that we'd like to move forward and also asked if they would be able to seal our gutter corners too as they have been leaking. No response. 7-10 days later I called and was forwarded over to her. She said that she'd had one of the guys called me in a day or two. Still waiting on that call and it's been over two weeks.
