That's because, away from the very pleasing Otter Ale, they serve some pretty great looking food. On the boards, I saw pig's head, which according to my chum who had just eaten it, was amazing. Alas, I can't personally vouch for it as I was only drinking and staring at the various mounted animal heads on the wall (great boar's head folks). The vibe inside is all wooden and dimly lit, which personally, I think makes for a perfect drinking den. If you're a stalker of some kind, it might be worth putting this place on your stalker map (stalkers, I assume, have special maps with pins in and the like). Known drinkers here include the not-so-impressive Adrian Chiles and the properly famous Hugh Grant, who I'm told is a fan of Twiglets. There's a small smoking section with seat which is pretty cool and an especially rude cat called Lily who I found rather endearing in its aloofness. Basically, this is a bit of jewel of a pub, although, some of the prices for beer can be a little off-putting. Definitely worth a trip though.

With the help of our waitress, we ordered a variety of plates and filled up the table with all sorts of fabulous things to share. My favorite was the tortilla (Tortilla Española). It was creamy and rich and really hit the spot with the aioli on the side. The tomato bread (pan de coca) was good but you had to DIY; rubbing the bread with garlic, smashing the tomato, and finishing it with olive oil and flaked sea salt. The green olives were huge, stuffed with orange. The goat cheese (monte enebro) was fried. The ham croquettes (croquetas de jamón) were mild and didn't have much ham in them. Items we didn't like where the garlic prawns (gambas al ajillo), the seafood paella, and the sangria. The shrimp was really fishy. The paella rice was undercooked and the seafood wasn't the best quality. And the sangria was too weak and too sweet - skip that and have a glass of Malbec. Overall, everyone found something they liked and we didn't walk out hungry. I'd come back for a slice of tortilla and a glass of red wine.

As far as food is concerned, we ordered the whole lot, getting the ball rolling with the obligatory Padron peppers, which were perfectly cooked and sprinkled with just enough Maldon salt flakes to balance out the sweetness of the peppers. We also got a plate of charcuterie (which I don't have any picture of as I was far too busy fighting for the last slice of chorizo... very un-British of me, I know!), along with some patatas bravas. The charcuterie was absolutely top-notch, with decadent amounts of fat running through it and excellent value at £12 for a massive plate (it was enough for 5 people to feast on without any of us fighting too much for the last bits!). We added in some veggies with sauteed broccoli (meh) and AMAZING Spinach, raisins & pine nuts, then came some sliiiiiiightly naughtier vegetables in the form of Berenjenas Fritas. And yet, they ARE as lush and delicious as they look, thanks to very thin batter and all that glistening honey! Last but not least, we got some Croquetas del Dia (gooey little balls of happiness, as far as I'm concerned) and Grilled chorizo on toast, which was every bit as good as the one they serve in rolls at their Borough market stall. Add to all of this delicousness the fact that the staff was lovely (and a few more jugs of that excellent sangria), and I'll leave smilling from ear to ear (and very full). Which is pretty much what happened at Brindisa. https://cakeandwhisky.wordpress.com/2015/02/24/where-to-eat-in-london-tramontana-brindisa-shoreditch/

We came with a group of 6 on a Friday for lunch and we were able to make a reservation that morning but it was also snowing in London that day so I don't think most people were going out, everything was pretty empty. The menu has a lot of traditional British dishes: beef ale pie, fish pie, fish & chips, mac & cheese, sausage and mash, burgers and more. They don't have a ton of healthy options other than a chickpea stew and a salad. I ended up with the traditional fish & chips - which was quite generous in portion size, the fish was a gigantic slab and had quite a bit of breading (a little more than I would probably care for). The staff was really nice to let me do 1/2 chips and 1/2 salad as I was trying to watch what I was eating. The salad was not really much of a salad though, it was one piece of lettuce, 2-3 cherry tomatoes and a few olives. The chips were okay: not bad, but a bit thick and large for my taste. I think I preferred the chips that came with the sandwiches (I had a few from my coworker) Overall, a good place to come if you want a casual lunch, traditional British food at reasonable prices. I wouldn't say it was the best fish and chips I've ever had, but it was a ton of food and it had a nice ambiance (at least for lunch) I would give this place 3.5 stars - I wouldn't object if someone wanted to come eat and/or drink here but it probably wouldn't be my first choice of places amongst all the other other choices in London.
