He moved swiftly through the spots but still stopped often and detailed the cultural highlights of this part of the old town. You're not going to see everything in three hours but you will definitely have the opportunity to get your bearings, see the big sites and have a scratch at this wonderful city. Brian was fun and entertaining, the tour was a blast and at the end we still had 25 of the 30 people. That's a pretty good turnout. This was my NINTH Sandeman's tour after Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Dublin, Madrid, Brussels, Copenhagen, and Porto. Definitely one of the better ones! [Review 12238 overall, 2022 of 2019.]

If you are lucky enough to get Brandon, make sure you get his Prague list of recommendations for restaurants, attractions, etc. There were about 20 in the tour group and a second in Spanish tour group-so total about 40 on a coach bus. Bring your walking shoes as we walked to all the sites after we visited the church. Date of tour: June 3, 2024…read more Not sure how it took me so long to do this review, it was probably the highlight of our time in Prague and the gold standard for food tours! First, our guide: Klara was a fabulous and fascinating tour guide (even if she did throw shade at one of my favorite stores, Primark!), her mix of North American knowledge compliments her Czech sensibilities. She did a great job of introducing the groups and laying the groundwork for us. Here was our tour: 1. We started with Pilsner Urquell beer (or alternatively the dark Kozel beer), fried cheese with tartare sauce, marinated carp, a selection of sausages with mustard, potato salad, and Prague ham with creamed horseradish at the Lokal pub over at Dlouha 33. There was also some pickled fish and Czech Gothaj salami with onions. While the food here wasn't my favorite, I did try pretty much everything and nothing was too weird or gross for me! 2. We continued to Kantyna at Politickych veznu 5, where we tried the beef tartare, pulled pork, schnitzel made with pork neck and some pickled vegetables. A fantastic stop; even the beef tartare! Also got a kick out of the cool, old-school bottle of Royal Crown (RC) cola from Georgia! 3. We took the subway to the Kro Bistro & Bar at Sokolovská Street in the Karlín district, where we sampled the rotisserie chicken with brown butter and soy sauce, fermented potato pancakes, braised beef with dill sauce and roasted potatoes, and cabbage slaw. The beverages were a light beer from the Vinohradsky Pivovar brewery, a sweet local cider or lemonade. So. So. Good! The beef was so moist and savory, I could have drank the juice it was in! And the fermented potato pancakes looked and tasted like pitas, loved them! 4. Then we took the subway and finished the tour at the Myšák pastry shop at Vodickova 32. We had the buns with warm vanilla custard, "vetrnik": choux pastry with vanilla pastry cream, caramel whipped cream and glaze, and "likerova spicka": biscotti with chocolate mousse, eggnog, and chocolate cover. We also had black coffee. A fascinating mix of items that--while not all amazing--were all interesting. Months later my husband still talks about the vanilla pastry with caramel whipped cream!

Do not recommend! I paid $143 (around 3,000 CZK or approx…read more €135) for what turned out to be the most disappointing and upsetting experience with a food tour company in Prague. Not only did I get food poisoning, but when I contacted them to cancel, they showed absolutely no empathy or understanding. They flat-out refused to issue a refund, citing a confusing and inconsistent cancellation policy. Tripadvisor clearly states that cancellations made 24 hours in advance are eligible for a refund, yet the receipt I received after payment claims you need to cancel 21 days in advance. This bait-and-switch is incredibly dishonest. When I tried to explain my situation, their response was shockingly rude and unprofessional--they even called me "disrespectful" simply for pointing out the scammy nature of their refund policy. For a tour that is by far the most expensive food tour in Prague, their customer service is appalling, and their greed is on full display. I will be disputing the charge with my bank. Avoid this company at all costs--you deserve better. To add insult to injury, when I asked why a refund wasn't possible, they said that "preparations and reservations" are made the night before. Really? Who's going to eat the food I paid for? What exactly are these "reservations," when most restaurants regularly cancel or adjust group bookings? One booking made a day before isn't going to make or break a night. Plus, traditional Czech food is largely preserved or pre-prepared--it's not like they're cooking anything fresh per person. And if the tour booking stays open until it fills, how are you already prepping for me specifically? Their explanation makes no sense. Then they changed their reasoning again and said they couldn't refund me because the tour guide needs to be paid for their time and effort. I get that people need to be compensated, but I never met the guide, never received the service, and canceled as soon as I knew I was sick. If the guide was still paid, that's on the company--not the sick customer. It's just another excuse to keep the money, no matter what. The inconsistency in their responses shows they'll say anything to avoid doing the right thing. Again--go with literally any other food tour in Prague.

Date of ride: June 2, 2024…read more This seemed like a super fun way to see a lot of Prague in a short period of time, especially since we were staying a bit further out at the STAGES hotel. Unfortunately it was not the best experience. Our pick up time was 4 pm, Prague-time. I made sure we were in the lobby a few minutes before in case they were early so we could take advantage of a break in the rain we had been receiving that day. But there was no Old Car. After 15 minutes without a car and no word from the company, I sent an email to them and received a response that the car was minutes away. It did not arrive until after 430, nearly the time that our 40-minute ride would be coming to an end. As an apology, the driver had a bottle of prosecco. Very nice, but I don't drink. My traveling companions had some but it was a rainy, windy day so it wasn't the best choice in terms of beverage selections! We started with the top down but soon after we needed to pull over and put it on because the rain started up again. If it's raining, you might as well tool around Prague in an Uber because it's hard to see anything or take any pictures. The blankets supplied helped keep us warm and dry-ish but really dampened the entire experience. Had the driver come on time, it would have been a dry ride and a completely different experience.

He provided the history of the area and showed the camp, and fortress (the crematorium was closed on Saturday). While I really had no desire to see a concentration camp, being there and understanding how this once resort town for the rich was turned into a ghetto where Jews were sent by Nazis to work and dies was educational. In person, it was chilling to see how in a city (Prague) where a former KING had invited Jews to live peacefully for a few hundred years in community with neighbors could be ravaged in less than a decade by stealing property and sending community members to die. The highlight of the tour, for me, was walking through the interior of the fortress. Because Terezin had been a fortress around a town and in which at present there is an educational institution, this concentration camp may differ from other in Germany proper. Patrik took us through the museum which held objects, and other displays from the camp. The humanity of those held as slaves by the Nazis shows through in the posters, pictures and attempts to try to "normalize" the hell created. Take time to look at the exhibits there. The most depressing part of this tour were the headstones with the names of those who "came through" the gates and perished. For judges in the USA who are faced with anti-semites who claim there holocaust did not happen and perpetrate hate crimes, should be able to sentence the guilty to tour camps and help, In short, book and take a tour with this company.

I went on two walking tours during my week in Prague and I'm posting the higher star rating here…read more Overall, I wasn't blown away by either of my experiences, but for a pay-what-you-want, my first tour was solid. Tour #1: with Tereza, a Prague native, for Old Town. It was crowded for a Tuesday so they split the group into two, but there were still probably close to 20 people in my group. The guides don't use speakers or headsets so even though I have pretty good hearing, I needed to stand close to be able to hear. The history was good, but I felt like it was a lot of walking, with no talking during the walking (makes sense with a large group), and then a lot of standing around in one spot with a bunch of information dumped. It felt like there could have been a better balance of walking a little, talking a little, and repeat. The history was very good, but a little dry. I did appreciate her bringing in modern politics and current day life. She also gave some great restaurant recommendations for the area where I was staying. Tour #2: with Ileana, who is from Mexico, for the Charles Bridge and outskirts of Prague Castle. There were many small annoying things about this tour that made it unpleasant, and overall I did not find it to be particularly informative. I would not recommend her as a tour guide. It was very hot and sunny, and Ileana kept stopping in the middle of sunny, hot squares with no shade. I asked her if we could stand in the shade and she said, "No, here is better." I almost left this tour multiple times because I thought it was so lackluster and underwhelming. One of the most disappointing / surprising things to me was that during our tour, there was a changing of the guards at the castle, and Ileana happened to take our group *away* from where it was happening to have a coffee/restroom break. When I mentioned to her the changing of the guard, she said, "It is not that big of a deal, it's just like every other changing of the guard." What a weird thing to say to tourists!

She said to google them, we would find them. Indeed a quick google search gave us the true name of the company, Discover Prague Tours. And it tells you exactly where to find them. Because unless you are staying in the immediate vicinity of the tour office, you are going to pass MANY tour companies, and many also with umbrellas (but not yellow ones). We found the meeting point and the office and got a number for the next free walking tour, that runs on the hour, daily. The number is just so they can keep track of how many people are on each tour. Our tour guide, Ashley, an ex-pat from Australia, was great! He was initially surprised by the size of the group, as it got close to 60 people. Which is quite a few for a walking tour of a city! But he kept the energy high, the information flowing and funny, and offered some great recommendations for eating and entertainment at the end of the tour. He wasn't too obnoxious about reminding people about tips (yes, it is a free tour...but they are working and deserve at least a little something!) 2.5 hours full of history and fun! If nothing else, I highly recommend you take advantage of the free tour. BUT our encounters with Discover Prague did not end there. We were impressed enough with the free city tour, that we decided to book their Kutna Hora/Sedlec Ossuary/Bone Church tour with them for the next day. We may have been able to do the trip cheaper on our own, but I can guarantee that we would have gotten at least a little lost at some point and wasted time, not to mention missing out on a LOT of interesting information. It is well worth the moneyThe Kutna Hora trip left at 11am, so there was no crazy rush to get to the meeting point. You meet at the office in Old Town Square and walk to the train station where the group rides to the town, and after a quick in-the-city train ride, you start getting the low down on the history. Our tour guide Levan was super informative. My only wish is that we could have had more time in each location (you visit the three main historical churches in Kutna Hora, including Sedlec Ossuary). We had plenty of time at the Bone Church, due to the bus to the next one running late. This pushed back lunch and might have lost us some post-lunch stops or free time that might have happened. Lunch is at a local Czech place, and is not included in your ticket. You can bring your own food or eat elsewhere if you want to. "Lunch" also occurred closer to 3:30 that to any more usual mealtime...And then you take a train back to the Prague main station where the tour ends. They will help with directions to where you need to go. 100% would recommend this tour as well. We attempted to go on one of their castle tours, but strangely only three people had bought tickets for the tour, and they have a group minimum of 4. We were given a refund right away and were told of other options for the palace tour. (We ended up deciding to explore it on our own and walk up ALL THOSE STAIRS!!) Finally, we booked a day trip to Karlovy Vary/Carlsbad that they had advertised in the office. It wasn't on their website to investigate further, but that is because they work with a different company to provide more options. Caity in the office helped us with the booking, since it was over the phone. Since it wasn't available on their website we had to pay the 1690 CZK in cash. But she took all of our contact information for the other guide group, sent it off to them, and gave us our voucher. We received information on the other company (in case we needed to contact them) and I was able to look them up ahead of time to make sure they were also legit. We were a bit nervous about the tour because we booked it less than 15 hours in advance, which seems awfully short notice for a 10 hour day trip. But everything worked out wonderfully! We were picked up within 5 minutes of our designated time the next day, at our hotel, and had a beautiful day in the spa town. Another awesome tour found via Discover Prague! I would ABSOLUTELY recommend them for any tourist in Prague!! -Be advised: not all tours occur on all days. -Be advised: tours booked in person require payment in CASH. There is an ATM on site. -Payment in CZK and Euro is accepted. -Many tours can be booked on the website if you would prefer to pay via credit card. -Not all tours are available on the website. -Not all longer tours include food. -Prices are very fair, in comparison to other tours I have done in other cities. -Seriously, if you have any questions or need any help, they are wonderful and happy to help!

British Dave was informative and entertaining. We learned a bit of history about the Czech Republic. We learned about the buildings in Old Town and Jewish Quarter and a bit about the Prague castle. We went to Wenclazlas square and learned about the fall of communism. We saw Franz Kafka's childhood home, learned that Czech's didn't know about their most famous person until the 1980's, because he wasn't published until after he died, and at that point the Nazi's ruled and they didn't allow it, then the Soviet communists didn't allow it to be published in Czech. So no one was able to read it until the fall of communism in the Czech republic (there were the last country in Europe to have communism). Tourists used to come to Prague during communist times and ask about Kafka's childhood home (corner of Old town square), but no one knew who they were talking about. This tour was one of the best parts of our trip to Prague. It was good to see the areas, and have some history while we were there. It was about 2.5 hours, and was well worth our time.

We arrived early and walked around the gift shop a bit. They had an amazing amount of merchandise. Much of it very useful and some of it is also engravable and they have an engraver onsite. I bought a t-shirt. At 11 am, we started our tour. It starts on the second floor (level 1). There are stair and there are lifts. The experience is about a number of things: 1. Perusing their extensive merchandise in there gift shop 2. Learning about Pilsner Urquell, their history and the history of beer and beer making 3. Beer tasting 4. Hanging out on the third floor (level 2) for more beer, some food if you'd like (purchase) and games (foos ball) Back to item 2, they told their beer and beer making story, by using an audio track with your language on comfortable wireless headphones and by the use of visuals projected on the walls. As you walked through the halls, your headphones knew where you were and the audio guide was tailored to the presentation you were seeing on the walls. It was super well done. About half way through, there was a stop at a bar for your first of 3 included beer tastes. These were maybe .2L mugs. At the end of this part of the experience, you're given a 10% off coupon for the gift shop and 2 beer tokens, then you head up a level where you can use supplied tokens at the bar for what I feel were full .5L mugs of beer. There were foos ball tables, plenty of seating and large WCs. Front one of the beertenders, we ordered a Pretzel. We paid for it at the bar and 10 minutes later, a fresh, hot pretzel and mustard was delivered to where we were sitting. We toured a number of Beer Experiences around the world. This was a real good one.
