This is still a great shop. I have an old (almost 30 yrs!) GT Mountain Bike that I don't want to let go of. From time to time, it needs work and new parts. Last week was my 2nd visit after some years, and once again they did Such a Great Job replacing brakes, cables, derailleur and more. And once again, all for a price I can afford. I'm a little unfamiliar with this area. In the PNW there are bike roads, bike trails, bike paths, bike clubs and therefore lots of bike techs. Abilene is blessed to have a bike tech of the highest calibre and comparable to the bike techs of Moab Utah. I dropped off my bike yesterday. I picked it up today. They had my bike re-tuned in less than 24 hours for less than a Franklin. Value per Toonie is High High at Bike Town !!! read more

I was in Bike Town for one purpose: to get a bike rack mounted on my cheap kid's bike. I'm an old-timer, but I'm short so the only bike I could find that I could ride was a kid's bike. When I asked the owner about mounting the rack and then mounting a basket for my dogs, I told him why I had to buy a child's bike in the first place; a bike that didn't have a way to mount the rack, but that would allow my feet to touch the ground so I didn't do some comedic old-person fall while cruising around the state park. He explained that he could jerry-rig the bicycle so the rack would fit but he suggested that I could have an adult bicycle that was more comfortable and to which a basket could be fitted well. I told him again that my feet would not touch the ground on an adult bike! He pulled out a bicycle for me to try and adjusted the seat. I didn't even want to look at it because this upscale bicycle shop surely sells only bikes Lance Armstrong could afford. He encouraged me so I did sit on the bike and WOW. It was comfortable. My feet touched the ground. It was well made and had the right tires for riding through state parks. Then I looked at the price! I didn't have the money in my pocket to buy that bike, and when I explained that I had to purchase items on a payday by payday schedule, the owner smiled and said "of course." He didn't pressure me. He didn't denigrate my cheap bicycle. He was awesome. So, yes I WILL BUY THAT BIKE. And I will have tandem baskets for my elderly, toothless, somewhat cantankerous dogs. As an afterthought, I must tell you also, that for a short time I delivered pizzas. I have delivered to this place on several occasions, to the owner's son. That kid is amazing. He works there too, but he is always polite and he tips well! This is a good place, with good people, and exceptional, but affordable products, and no one can beat the customer service. The only thing that embarrassed me is that now I have to explain why I need a padded seat, cause this old behind is too bony. read more
