There's also Bake Share (where you split your croissants with someone) and Broke Share (where people who spent too much money on rented bikes tell each other their woes). This is not those. What a brilliant idea. If the bicycles themselves were more comfy, I'd give them a 5. I've used them in the heat of summer and the bitterest cold winter, and I bet you can't guess which one feels better. Yeah, don't use these when the temperature is below freezing. It's just awful. Unless you're bundled up like a motherf***** anyway. But yes, what a brilliant idea. Not too expensive. Accessible. Helpful, especially in a city like Toronto. But not very comfy to sit on, is all.

First, let's have a moment of silence for Bixi. It least it still lives on in Montreal! I was looking forward to using my old Bixi key but when I was in town, they were actually converting the old system and keys to work with their new system. Bummer. Oh well, that just meant that I had to put in my credit card each time I wanted to grab a bike. Pricing is legit ($7.00 for 24 hours, $15.00 for 72 hours and $90.00 for an annual membership). Biking around is the best way to see the city! I was impressed to see how many bike lanes there are now along with the amount of people biking. Bike culture is thriving compared to my last visit a few years ago. There's over 200 stations and 2,000 bikes! You can also use these 24/7 which is the perfect way to explore. Honestly, bike shares are my favourite thing in the world. Too bad Toronto's has the lamest name ever. You get 30 minutes free so make sure you don't go over the time limit. Only other bummer was when I tried to use it the next day, all the systems were down. So I got screwed that way but I wasn't charged for my 3 day pass as I called up their reps and was reimbursed. Still love it! Take advantage of their bike share program whether you're a tourist or a local. I know I would.

She provided everyone with multiple water bottles and made sure to take frequent breaks at sites of interest. Her instructions were easy to follow with regards to bike safety and she was able to keep our group of 6 (4 in our team plus another pair) together throughout the entire tour with no issues. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone, regardless of their experience level as it can likely accommodate any rider with even just a basic knowledge and familiarity. The tour itself was relaxing, beautiful, and educational. We frequently stopped for historical and contemporary updates on the places we visited while traversing the city and islands. The fact that there are effectively no cars on the island itself really enhanced the experience and made it feel like being out for a serene Sunday bike ride with the family. We really appreciated that at each stop she already had a nice spot picked out to take group photos and helped position and arrange us for optimal configuration and angles. This was such a wonderful way to explore the Toronto Islands, I highly recommend this tour and our guide Mariana!

Rather than giving up and leaving me with no bike, the Go Dutch team came up with a creative solution of swapping my old frame for a comparable trade-in frame they had on hand, and installing the handlebars and seat and accessories from my old bike onto the trade-in frame. The result was a completely functional "new" second hand bike that repurposed all the usable parts I had previously bought for my old bike. So now I have a high quality second hand bike and a safe and enjoyable ride for much less cost than a replacement. This wouldn't have been possible without the expertise of this team and their commitment to ensuring I received the refurbished bicycle I wanted. I also appreciated their proactive communication while the repairs were ongoing, and the timely service for the extensive work involved. Also, everyone was very friendly, knowledgeable and pleasant to deal with. They have a gorgeous selection of Dutch bikes that are perfect for city riding. Unfortunately my Co2 inflator malfunctioned: I had a repaired tire but no air. A quick online search showed that Dream Cyclery was just a few blocks away. I knew as a reputable shop that they would have air available for those who need it in a pinch. And yes, as I arrived, there was the air hose as I had hoped. Noticing it was only Schraeder-ready I went into the shop to borrow an adapter and say thanks for the rescue. No thanks needed. Just 5 bucks. That's right, any cyclist with Presta valves must pay for the tiny brass adapter in order to use the "free air." The staffer seemed embarrassed to be charging me $5 for a piece that costs no more than a nickel. With the next nearest bike shop a significant walk away, I had no other choice. How chintzy is that! It wouldn't be so obnoxious if they were charging a dollar to cover the cost of providing them, or asking for a donation to a favourite charity (Cycle Toronto?) but this feels likes mean-spirited gouging. Looks like a nice shop. Sorry I will not be visiting again.

[ the story ] I wanted to take my parents on a 40km long Sunday bike ride from The Brickworks down to Cherry St (on the lower Don Trail), across the city out to Humber Bay and Mimico (on the Martin Goodman Trail), and back. On Friday night at 6pm I called Danielle at Sweet Pete's Brickworks to ask why the Sunday rental slots on their website were greyed out; she explained that there was a group event on Saturday who had taken out all the bikes, and they weren't sure what time they'd be getting them back. She took my email and phone number and promised to look into the time they'd be returned, and to let me know when she had opened up the rental slots on the website. Two hours later I got an email from her, went online to book the bikes (3 Kona splices - hybrids), and showed up on Sunday with my parents. (By the way there is $8/day parking at the Brickworks lot on weekends - pretty good!) When we arrived we discovered that the Medium Kona Splice was too big for all of us (we're a short family), and they only have two Small Kona Splices, so they agreed to let us switch the Medium Kona Splice out for a mountain bike instead, which we were super grateful for. The bikes themselves rode like a dream - super smooth gear changes, maneuvered well, and kept in great condition. I even got mud all over the mountain bike when someone took a turn too sharply and ran me off the path, and Adam was super understanding. I offered to clean the bike off and he told me not to worry about it. [ verdict ] No, it's not cheap like one of those dinky fixed-gear lakeshore rentals, but so worth it for the great service and the great bikes! We'll definitely be coming back here.

The second visit I made was for a crank arm, and this time I was not as lucky in finding a replacement. The guy I spoke with seemed to be a bit annoyed I didn't want to take an arm until I explained this wasn't my only bike and if it didn't get fixed I was still okay. Sort of funny, but also sort of strange. Also, and this isn't them, but if looking them up on Duck Duck Go, they're still listed as also having a location on Queen West, which isn't the case anymore.
